I am really on the fence about this one. In certain ways, it really felt unique and fresh, but in others it felt like every other sci-fi anime. I enjoyed the characters but didn't get emotionally attached to them. There was a lot I dug about the world and about the philosophical messages of the show; however, something just didn't come together for me. I think the show will fare better in my eyes after a re-watch because (1) basically any show is going to be a bit of a letdown just after marathoning FMA and FMA: Brotherhood and (2) there was a TON of hype surrounding Noein, so I probably had unrealistically lofty expectations.

Even though 95%]it[/i]. It acknowledges that all human relationships are ultimately painful (instead of trying to dodge that fact), and thereby is able to let the happy moments shine all the brighter. It feels genuine somehow.

More than just ideologically superb, this movie is also virtually perfect in all other areas as well. It is the prettiest I have ever seen, has great sound effects and music, is well executed, etc. My only complaint is that the second part seemed a little out of place and inferior to the first and last. Still, it is a 10/10 for sure.

I also enjoyed 5 Centimeters Per Second, since it's one of the few romance stories to actually focus on having to let things go, which in its own way is its own happy ending, even if a bit stark by the genre's standards.

It's a second character going through what the first went through, except arranged differently, but it still carries that idea of having to move on. It's also some development of the first character between the opening and final acts, since things are still revolving around him even as far removed as he is from the first episode until he comes to grips with himself in the third.

Also, beautiful, beautiful animation.

Durarara ep. 1-7

I am liking pretty much everything about this series so far. Copious "small town" feel mysteries, a raucous batch of generally dangerous and complex characters, and dry narrator humor are all major pluses. I also appreciate that whenever things drift into the anime trope category, one of the characters calls it out.

Samurai X: Trust and Betrayal

A great OVA. It channels the darker, more philosophical undercurrents that first drew me to RK and develops and polishes them into a finely honed 2 hour piece. I think that it was a bit too stylized for me to really invest myself into the story, so it didn't really have much emotional punch (plus I already knew the ending). A pity, to be sure. Very excellent none the less. I can see why it is often used as a gateway movie to introduce people to anime (although I personally think new viewers may be overwhelmed by the sheer drama of it all).

I am definitely not implying that the second section is pointless. In fact, I thought it was used quite well. I am just saying that it seemed a little out of place and was not as engrossing as the first and last. Considering we are wrapped up in these two people's lives completely in the first and the last episodes, the major change of focus and emphasis in the middle is a little jarring. Can you say that you liked the second part as much as the other two?

FMA: Brotherhood episode 45 - good as always, no surprises there! Oh, and the battles were awe-some!

I also watched Grave of the Fireflies for the second time, this time with my brother. It took on an extra meaning for me, to experience it with my nii-san.

Perhaps I should have ]the introduction of immortality into the world[/spoiler], and the[spoiler]reflections on being immortal[/spoiler]. It's also interesting that[spoiler]even though Szliard is immortal and can have all the sensations he desires, he still craves the experiences of other people.[/spoiler]

Just finished Ponyo. Very cute! Not my favorite Ghibli film, but definitely not a waste of time or money. Quite a unique twist on The Little Mermaid.

Starting Toward the Terra, or Terra he. So far, it's pretty intriguing, but I've only seen the first episode.

We finally frigging finished Gundam 00! Yay!

It's quite a flawed series. I can sit there and say "they shoulda done this" or "so-and-so sucks and should've been written out" and things of the sort all day long. Yet I am still able to list off things that I really liked about it and overall feel positive toward it. Usually I have a hard time getting past a series' flaws (Zeta Gundam I'm looking at you) but Gundam 00 must have charmed me with its pretty animation, pretty characters, and pretty robots or something.

WHR was...boring. Was not a fan. Although I can see why some people would love it, I am not one of them....

RxJ is one of the most underrated anime that I can think of. No one was buzzing about it when it got released here over the summer...probably b/c it is (loosely) based on "a boring old play" they had to read in school. But the anime is truly fantastic. Pplz is missing out!

What has given me second thoughts about it, is not the "boring old play" it is based on, but the similarity in name and treatment to the awful, awful, awful Romeo+Juliet adaptation that predates it.

Anyway, I watched eps 1-4 of Read Or Die TV. I find quite interesting their choice to not include the enormously charismatic Yomiko Readman from the OVA, but I understand they wanted to take the series in another direction (more silliness + more interpersonal drama.) The paper battles are still there and are still awesome, if that's the reason why you picked up the title after being captivated by the OVA.

I kind of don't understand why they cut the movie in parts for really.

Just finished episode 13 this morning (ee, the cliffhanger but was too tired last night. :6: )I was recommended it as "something to make fun of" and in English, it really is. But then I switched to hulu and watched it in Japanese and it's really good. There was figurative jaw-droppping.

Edit: as a note, I refer to the script switching from archaic speaking to sudden modern swearing to make fun of in the english, not the acting...ops:
