Watching more Phantom: Requiem For The Phantom. It's looking like it'll be better than the ova.

watching the original Mobile Suit Gundam on youtube! Wow, for a 70's anime, this sure has some impressive visuals! (for its time, I mean)

I'm currently watching both Claymore and Heroic Age.

Claymore is outstanding! It is however; very violent and dark. As it has lots of fierce battles, tension, despair and intrigue. Clare is a great lead and I like the supporting cast a lot. The antagonists aren't all totally evil. Some have truly tragic pasts. I also love the Japanese voice cast!

I also have to add that the short arc about Teresa regarding Clare's past is very good and very melancholic at the same time.

Heroic Age so far is pretty good. Though, it's not quite as good as Claymore. But, it still is fun to watch. It's very different since this a space opera and mech show. And, it does have much more humour.

I find that the two main characters, Age and Princess Dhianeila are both very strong. The main enemies are also quite strong. But, the technical quality of the animation does fluctuate from time-to-time.

Finished Monster a couple of days ago, and yeah, that was pretty much jaw-drop amazing. So much character development! Wonderful plot! Dark, but hopeful.

At the moment the animes I am watching on and off are...Bleach, D.Gray-man, Fate/Stay Night, Trinity Blood, sometimes Cowboy Bebop...

[font="Trebuchet MS"][SIZE="4"][color="RoyalBlue"]I just finished up "Spiral: The Bonds of Reasoning". I have to say, I enjoyed revisiting this series, and I enjoyed it more than the first time I watched it.

Right now, I'm on the tail end of "Moribito Guardian of the Spirit"--I picked it up from Wal-Mart at a very nicely priced $30 for the complete collection. A very sound investment for a very compelling and interesting series. It's also the source for one of my favorite new anime quotes:

Finished Last Exile. Though the end episode suffered of the traditional (in anime) syndrome of wanting to pack climax, resolution and epilogue in measly 22 minutes of animation, I still have to say it was an amazing series. I haven't cared so much for fictional characters in a while.

Kodocha episodes 14-15. Oooh, right when everything seems settled again, a new development arises! They sure know how to keep you watching.

FMA: Brotherhood episode 44. Ah, good ol' FMA. I loved Envy's voice in this episode. So cool.

Darker than BLACK ep. 1-26

I am glad the anime club watched this all in one go, because I would have hated to try to keep it all in my head over the course of a couple weeks. It is one of those series. Not up to Serial Experiments Lain or Higurashi level, but much more complex than your average series.

Really, it is an interesting show, although I am still trying to decide how good it is. The story was complex, like it should be, but the trippy ending tried to split the middle too much. I like the idea of the characters finding a "third way" of nonviolence (or less violence in this case) and would have approved of it, had the ending not felt like an excuse to make a second season more than anything else. I guess I have to reserve total judgement until I see the rest.

On the plus side, many of the characters were well developed thanks to the double episode arcs in the first half, each of which focused on a particular character or set of characters.

I also like the tone of the series, which was appropriately dark and grown-up feeling....... except when it wasn't. I can understand comic relief, but some characters and episodes pushed it into absurdity (I.E. the earwax thing). Content was also over my threshold in places as well, which was disappointing but proved largely avoidable.

The world mechanics are the biggest unanswered question, and that probably hurt my opinion of the show the most. The weird magic system and its paraphernalia just exist without justification and that bugs me. I hope the next season supplies more satisfactory answers in this regard.

Hey ich, been a long time. So anyhow, did this series get any better? I gave up on it when they started doing stories about working on the the team that maintains the wall (or something like that). I really thought the series had a lot of missed opportunities and was repetitive up to that point.

Oh what the HECK... Bakemonogatari episode 14 has a new OP... and there's nudity in it.

Not drawn even, actual nudity... DAAGGH... I can't buy it now D:

So disappointed.

Likewise. Good to talk to you again. I don't know if you noticed, but I took your advice to watch Cromartie High School and loved it. I knew it was going to be a good show when the main character dropped a pencil on the floor and one of the other school members picked it up and ate it. Naturally, the protagonist then dropped all of his pencils on the floor to see what would happen. Great stuff.

If I had been watching Darker than BLACK by myself, the Pandora research center episodes (around ep. 11) that you mentioned would have been where I would have quit as well. Fortunately I continued, because that also marks the turning point for the series. Just a few episodes later, it stops introducing new characters and starts building a complex and over arching story.

So, yes, it does get better after that point. In fact, the latter half of the series is pretty much the only thing that justifies the first half. I am not saying it is a really good series, mind you, just that all the time spent on the first half is used quite well as a setup for the second. If you have seen Witch Hunter Robin, it is quite similar to that.

If it's not drawn, you can still hope that it's Shinbo being lazy and that it'll be getting a real OP in the DVD/BRD release. Because that OP really did seem like SHAFT ran out of time yet again.

Last Exile ep. 14-26

This second half didn't really ruin the show for me as I feared, but it didn't do a whole lot to wow me either. Most of it was fitting, such as Deo and his friend's fate, but there were also a whole lot of unanswered questions. Where exactly did the main characters end up? What was the point of the Last Exile anyway? Also, the last couple episodes really screwed up my notion of how the world is laid out. I feel like I need a map or something. 7/10 or 8/10, depending on how much I can figure out from re-watching the end.

5cm Per Second

Even though 95% of all romance movies annoy me, I have found that I can't write off the genre completely because every once in a while someone makes a movie like this. Where virtually all other romance movies fail, 5cm Per Second gets it. It acknowledges that all human relationships are ultimately painful (instead of trying to dodge that fact), and thereby is able to let the happy moments shine all the brighter. It feels genuine somehow.

More than just ideologically superb, this movie is also virtually perfect in all other areas as well. It is the prettiest I have ever seen, has great sound effects and music, is well executed, etc. My only complaint is that the second part seemed a little out of place and inferior to the first and last. Still, it is a 10/10 for sure.
