Worst Games of the Decade

Postby Peanut » Wed Dec 30, 2009 3:39 pm

Exactly what the title says. Post your top ten lists of the worst games from this decade that you have played. here and maybe, just maybe, the bad taste of that purchase will leave your mouth. Here's mine

1. Robot Wars: Advanced Destruction
2. Dragon Ball Z: The Legacy of Goku
3. Stalin vs. Martians
4. Eternal Daughter (for me at least...)
5. Shadow the Hedgehog
6. Red Steel (I fortunately didn't buy this one...)
7. NCAA 09 All Play
8.Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World (hate you Emil...)
9. Lost Kingdoms
10. Chariots of War (though its still fun to play...)

I honestly don't remember the bad games I played before I got my PS3. So my list will have to be limited to those. I can only really comment on games I've spent a good deal of time with.

5. Haze. Wasn't THAT bad, but it was glitchy and the team-killing thing ruined co-op for me, which would have been really fun.
4. That low gravity racing game on PSN. It would have been awesome if it had splitscreen or... even an online community AT ALL. It was too far under the radar, so it sucked. That's not a game that's worth playing on your own.
3. Bayonetta demo... I don't have a clue why people like this so much, but whatever. I can't complain about the full game because I haven't played it, but poorly optimized hack and slash just isn't my thing. Unless it's gorgeous and has freaking Smeagol in it.
2. Loco Roco Coccoreccho (Loco Roco shouldn't be desaturated... Among other issues I had with this incredibly disappointing game)
1. Lair. Bar None. Never been that disappointed in a game purchase.

Those are the only ones I can think about. I got really frustrated by Infamous, thought it got way too cheap after the first neighborhood, but I still played it all the way through because it was addicting. I thought the Harry Potter games were pretty poor as games, but I geeked out because they'd randomly bring in things from the books that the movies didn't have, and they'd play portions of the Audiobooks every once and a while so I didn't care. I was annoyed by the story mode in the PS3 Naruto game because everytime something happened, you were safe back in your village.. WHAT THE CRAP? Still, It's the best Cell Shading of that kind I've ever seen (I think something more stylistic like Ookami still looks better, and I love the FFT / Valkyria Chronicles filter, but it looks better than others of its kind, like Eternal Sonata, DBZ, and maybe about even with Tales of Vesperia, but I only played the ToV demo for a few minutes because I didn't get the battle system)

There are probably many other games that belong on that list, but I either haven't played them, or blocked them from my mind, particularly ones that I played before the PS3 hit. I mean, there's a whole other gen in there... PS2, Gamecube, Xbox, Dreamcast... I'm 100% certain there were some truly horrible games that gen, not to mention the GBA (and later DS and PSP) but I just don't remember them.

Hmm, this is a really interesting topic and I may come back to it later, but for now I will simply say that off the top of my head the most disappointing game I played this decade was Rome: Total War. It's probably because my computer at the time couldn't handle it. I should revisit it and try again.

I don't have enough money to buy games with uncertain quality. I make my purchases very carefully.

That said, that one Conan game (not the MMORPG, the other one) was really terrible.

Eternal Darkness??!? I think that would have to be one of my favorites of the decade. Aside from the dark content, I don't see what there is to hate about this game.

I'm really careful about what I get and research a bit before I buy so I can't really say I've played many bad games. There were games I didn't like but they weren't really bad. Just not my style of play so I didn't like them.

The Superman Returns game was pretty crappy though... That's all I can think of off the top of my head anyway.

Eternal Daughter, not Darkness.

@Whitefang: I'd consider R:TW to be one of the best strategy games of the decade; it's well worth it to give it another try.

Anyway, I can't say that I've played a game that's truly bad, just not as good as others I've played. Therefore, I can't make a judgement on the worst games of the decade.

.... Halo and Super Paper Mario?

Kids these days will complain about anything. :p

I will list the worst games I played, regardless of if I purchased them or not:

Clive Barker's Jericho
Lair
Red Steel

Other than that, anything else I would want place here would better filed under "most disappointing games".

@ makachop-It's not really as good as the first one for sure. It's all the same places, just about, and I just did not like the storyline that much.

Super Paper Mario is in the worst games of the decade list? I thought it was decent(Maybe not as good as the first two, but...) or at least satisfactory.

Worst games? Hmm, that's a hard one considering I want to forget the games I dislike.

Maybe, ...

1. Sonic the Hedgehog(On the PS3)
2. Enchanted Arms

Can't think of many more at the moment though...

As a game, no, its a mediocre Real-Time RPG with a board game for a world map and cameos of almost every character from Tales of Symphonia. The reason it makes it onto my list is the main character, Emil. He's a supreme wuss (as you learn in the first battle with his whinny screams of "Stop it!" and "Ouch" during the first battle you get in with him) and if it wasn't for "Ratatosk mode" I doubt he would be able to do anything at all. Marta's unexplained obsession for him doesn't help either. Basically, my opinion is if you liked the first, you'd probably have a better time just re-playing it then buying this game. The only things Dawn of the New World does better then Tales of Symphonia is its skits (which are hilarious) and putting Regal in a classy suit.

Like other members, due to limited funds, the games I purchase are usually only ones I've done major research on. ^^ The ones I hate are typically ones I bought on an impulse. >.<;; But here they are:

* Shepherd's Crossing (I thought it would be a really fun game... it wasn't. Now I know why there was a $5 price-tag T~T)

* Star Wars: Lethal Alliance [Nintendo DS] (I was excited my favorite SW's species would be staring as the main character. I didn't do ANY background on this game, which is a major bummer.)

* Animal Crossing: Wild World - I didn't really hate this game, but I didn't find the headache inducing gameplay worth the effort. ^^ I actually wanted this game, because I had played the original (as far as for the USA) and enjoyed it. (This was also helped by the wonderful $30,000 bells cheat code X3 )

There are others, but I wasn't/am not the owner of those. (they belong to friends or family)

Tales of Symphonia is one of my favorite games! D:
...Oh, but Sheena is in the sequel, right? Hmm. Yeah, I guess that fact alone would easily knock the score down...

The best way to avoid a game disaster is to do your homework. I prefer RPGs, so I typically turn to RPGfan.com for reviews, gameplay-wise. And, of course, CAA for moral content.

The only awful game that I have had enough experience with to nominate as "worst of the decade" is Bleach: Shattered Memories, I do so, however, with great relish.

I never played it, but I think the award should definitely go to NInja Bread Man for the Wii. It looks awful. It plays just like it looks. Look at the videoes on youtube and you'll see why. UGH!

No, sorry. I just checked, it is called Bleach: Shattered Blade, not Bleach: Shattered Memories. I don't know why I wrote that.

I thought it was quite fun for about ten minutes, then I realized that most characters are cookie cutter clones of each other, that the painfully long Bankai transformations and cinematic attacks cannot be skipped, that some characters are ridiculously overpowered/underpowered, that the plot is paper thin (although that is expected in fighting games), etc.

I'm throwing in for consideration Seven Samurai 20XX. It's the only game I've ever sat down and played for 15 minutes and instantly wished for the time back.

Even Cy Girls wasn't so bad...

1. Unlimited Saga for PS2-Totally agree with you, Nate. Enough said.

2. Izuna: Legend of the Unemployed Ninja for DS- a terrible dungeon RPG; it will frustrate you, no matter what level you are - literally.

3. Life Line for PS2 - Playing with a microphone should only be left for communications between ACTUAL LIVING people i.e. FPS online play. NOT to tell some whiny, hotel waitress how to shoot some aliens in a stranded space hotel...

4.Britney's Dance Beat for PS2-Dance System is much too complicated, might as well learn calculus...

5. Tetris Worlds for GBA - Its lacks too many obvious essentials of the classic game, such as the ability to achieve the highest score...

6. Shadow the Hedgehog for PS2 - The controls are so terrible that if I were Shadow, I would probably think "Maybe I'll find the truth if I beat some sense into the people that made this dumb game!" Plus, gunshots do not make appealing confirm option sounds, especially for an Everyone 10+ rated game...

7. Super Mario Advance for GBA- It plays nothing like the classic Mario games that most would love. Would not hurt you the least bit, if you left this one out of your Mario collection.

8. True Swing Golf for DS - The demo sure made the real game look fun and simple, but that's only another example of how looks can be deceiving... just stick with Hot Shots Golf

9. Crash Bandicoot: The Wrath of Cortex for PS2-Title does not fit well with the game at all...while the level design is interesting, it does not compromise for the excessive and unnecessary deformity of the characters...*sob* poor Dr. N Gin and Cortex!!!

10. Game Party for Wii - All the minigames are badly designed except for the only game worth playing: Darts. The characters are obviously trying to imitate Miis but fail to do so in a freakish sort of way.

I don't buy many games and I as well do a fair amount of research before buying. My only disappointments were the sonic games, which really don't need to be named because from information gathered most if not all were bad.

Any others I could think of off the top of my head have been stated above.

Golden Sun.

Okay, so it's not that bad of a game on paper. A competent engine build prevents it from being abjectly broken like a few other games people have name-dropped, but competence doesn't translate to engrossing. Could they have made this game more boring and tedious? Just crossing the world map seems to take our intrepid cardboard protagonists the longest of time. And yet, somehow it was considered new and shiny enough to get not one but two sequels, though how I'll never comprehend.

Throw rocks at me.

Also, Sonic Heroes. Everything that's wrong with the current franchise can be traced back to this one. Level design where they clearly didn't care, needlessly excessive completion criteria, shoddy controls, annoying voices and lame bosses, yeah, that's just about it.

Ooh! I've thought of some more! ^^

* InuYasha: Secret of the cursed mask
- It's suppose to be an RPG... In this case, it must stand for Really Pathetic Game. Every action the characters performed in battle was soo~ slow! Plus, the in-game character movements looked like chibis-gone-wrong.

* InuYasha: Secret of the divine jewel
- Yet another Inuyasha RPG. Don't get lost... because you'll never find your way back again. O.O
I liked the theme remix, though. X3

* Inuyasha: Feudal Combat
- I don't actually dislike this game. Yeah, after you unlock the few characters, there's not a whole lot to do. I love multi-fighting games, even if they ARE bad. I fail to see how Shippo could defeat Sesshomaru... obviously whoever was playing Sesshomaru stunk. X3
The "powerful" characters are useless against the fast ones. (Speed beats Slow Naraku >.>;; ) Example, Kagura was a force to be reckoned with in the series, right? In the game, she slowly waddles around thanks to her kimono. It's so bad, it's sad. [RIP THE DRESS AND FIGHT, LADY!! D8<]

...I should probably never buy an Inuyasha game again. Ever. *whines* -but they were on the marked down section... T~T

@ Song-InuYasha: Secret of the cursed mask

Actually, I did like this game quite a bit. I mean sure it was slow at times, but the range of attacks and all the different scenes that came through that matching system were interesting. I never really got bored with the game. I think I'd still go back and play it again.

However, these games aren't for everybody.
