xxxHOLiC....I love it!!! I'm only on volume 2 of the anime, though. I love the episode "Indulgence". I loved the story in the manga, and it did well in the anime. The girl addicted to the Internet and needs to quit....I feel it's a good episode about breaking free from something you might be a little too obsessed with. That's why it's my fave (so far!).

Just watched episodes 1 and 2 of Hare+Guu Deluxe.

As usual, I was laughing every 10 seconds. xD

Indeed. Holic doth rock. That episode also stood out for me... probably because I am easily pulled into computers and the internets too... sometimes we humans are just so easily distracted from what's really important. :)

Haha, I also remember Yuko naming her bat "Zantetsuken" after the Lupin III sword. Apparently she watches anime too. xD

I finally got around to seeing The Girl Who Lept Through Time the other day, and was thoroughly impessed. I think that might actually be the best written anime film I've ever seen!

Finished a re-watch of Scrapped Princess. It wasn't as good as I remembered (actually I remembered very little of it from my first viewing).

Episode 4, despite debuting my second favorite character, is definitely the worst. It never drops in quality again.

Now watching Eureka Seven episode 5, which is definitely growing on me, especially the character designs. It's doing a lot of stuff right that I want in a mecha show.

Just watched all the available Bakemonogatari.

A lot less inappropriate visuals than what I was led to believe and it turned out to be a solid series.

I'm still on Dragonball. About halfway through with it. I skip overly long fights, but unfortunately I've missed a couple details I didn't want to because of this. I may not be the biggest fan of Toriyama's style, but you can't deny it's unique in the Anime world. And his characters AGE! Something that's so rare in animation at all.

So, finished up Kara no Kyoukai 7. It's great. If you were waiting for KnK to be finished, go ahead and watch it. Now.

The second episode of the Negima OAD moved through a lot less stuff than I would have liked (Negi only met up with Chachamaru and Chisame ( ´ー`)), meaning that the chances of getting through the awesome stuff with Rakan is pretty much zero at this point.

Denpa Teki na Kanojo is another OVA based on a light novel. The second episode is out and I was reminded of how messed up the characters are in that story. The first episode had a crazy girl that broke peoples' limbs with bats and stuff and this episode had someone harming other people (explosives, arson, etc.) to steal their happiness. Pretty interesting watch, though.

So 11eyes was terribly disappointing, though I only watched the first episode. The whole main cast was so annoying. Don't think I'll bother sticking it out to see if they improve.

Amen! I'll be watching the series finale tomorrow night... I'm rather sad this show is coming to a close for meh. :(

But it was pretty insanely entertaining all the way through. I'll probably be buying the DVDs eventually...

Shippuden

Postby TheSubtleDoctor » Mon Dec 14, 2009 8:46 am

Trying to catch up on Naruto Shippuden. I got into Naruto a bit late (October) and am marathoning my way through. In the 60s currently.

Also throwing in an occasional ep of Honey and Clover just for a change of pace.

Bakemonogatari episode 11
FLCL episodes 2-6 COMPLETED
Umineko no Naku Koro ni episode 24

So, FLCL.

That was...educational.
blkmage (post: 1359547) wrote:Why do I say this? Apparently, the Blu-ray versions are MASSIVE improvements with less VOICE/LINE and actual scenes and animation.

Also, about episode 10 in particular: apparently, at the time, SHAFT was really, really understaffed, to the point that they were killing themselves from overwork and finishing episodes mere hours before airing. You can tell, because they mention this in the Zan Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei title cards that flash in the same few weeks. The result is an episode that people have compared to Anno and Evangelion episode 26.
That's the thing. I actually didn't mind VOICE/LINE too much in previous episodes since it kinda matched the stylistic trappings of the show and was an occasional aversion to just having characters stand around talking, or perhaps even a lampshade of it. Then episode 10 rolled around and instead of using it sparsely they opted to obscure almost everything to the point that it became distracting.

If everything restored in the DVDs though, no harm no foul. I'd already heard episode 8 needed some clipping to be suitable for broadcast.

I just hope Bakemonogatari's Blu-ray versions get subbed as well... if they ever do bring them out here it's going to be a long time.

Naruto Shippuden 71-73.

Story arch transition. At first I really did not like the temple of fire/sora story, but it grew on me and the last few episodes of it were great.

Now,
back to the Akatsuki!
So on someone's implicit recommendation and discovering that Mamoru Hosoda directed it, I have watched Digimon: Bokura no War Game. I liked Digimon when I was but a child, but I remember passing over the movie (in any of its forms) because of the different art style. Now that I know better, I have taken steps to correct that mistake.

Having watched Summer Wars, the most interesting thing was seeing just how much Bokura no War Game has influenced Summer Wars, from the main plot to the design of the Internet world. The second interesting thing is the quaint feeling I get watching them fix connection issues in Windows 98 and talk about ISDN lines and lagging because of getting a billion emails.

So, it's fairly entertaining. It feels really different from the TV series, being directed by Hosoda and all. Also, this is not the same as the US movie, which I hear is considered some sort of abortion. So, Bokura no War Game (it's the one with the Japanese and Butter-fly), not Digimon the Movie (the one with the English and cramming three movies into one and apparently, bad music).

I've been preaching about the goodness of this show for a while, it's good that it's finally catching up.

Anyway, I finished TTGL, it was incredible! So amazingly over-the-top! Gainax definitely is the only studio capable of make me sit through a whole Mecha anime and enjoy it thoroughly (see NGE). I know that from now on whenever life throws me a curve ball I'll be yelling with a wild smile "Just who do you think I am!?"
