So I think I've solidified this season's watchlist.
11eyes and Fairy Tail have been preemptively dropped due to reports of QUALITY. Letter Bee's getting passed over because I'm not sure I want to commit to what might end up being another neverending Jump adventure. Trapeze dropped because it looks insane. Natsu no Arashi dropped since I don't really care about it that much. And Nyan Koi is getting dropped because I'm not feeling the need for that type of show this season. Seitokai no Ichizon dropped because I feel like it's a parody/reference show with none of the subtlety (which I disliked parts of Lucky Star for).
Which means I'm left with:
A Certain Scientific Railgun, which could go the way of Index and end up being terrible, but so far it's been entertaining enough that it's forgivable. We'll see just how much more interesting Misaka is than Touma or Index.
The Sacred Blacksmith is still a huge unknown and I've heard that its second episode did very little to keep people around. Still, it's only 12 episodes, so unless it turns really sour, I'll probably stick with it.
Kobato is pretty d'awwwwww, as long as you don't mind that Kobato is the clumsy and is a magical girl who is oblivious to how the world works. I can see how some of the encounters that'll happen in the show will turn out to be really good. Also MAAYA SAKAMOTO AND MEGUMI NAKAJIMA SONGS AMGAMGAMG.
Kimi ni Todoke is the show that I've been looking forward to this season. That's right, it's not Darker than Black. Of the available chapters of the manga I've read, I feel like it has the potential to become one of my favourite shoujo series. It might not be able to beat Kare Kano (my current favourite shoujo series) just yet, but it's easily in second. And so, it shouldn't be any surprise that I am enjoying this so much. Voices are great, and while I'm still not a huge fan of Noto Mamiko's particular voice for this character given the amount of talking she's done, it's become reasonably bearable. This is the show I look forward to every week (last season's was Bakemonogatari (did you see how I tried to slip Bakemonogatari into the conversation there? You should watch it.)).
Darker than BLACK was pretty cool. I liked the 2-episode episodic structure of the first season, which it seems that they've dropped for this season. Still, this one's a no-brainer if you enjoyed the first season, although it is still a mystery what role the new (and old, I guess) characters will be playing. However, I do feel that this isn't going to be the last season of Darker than BLACK that we're going to get, given the 1-cour run it's getting.
Hidamari Sketch x365 returns for two TV specials this month before the third season airs in a future season! I am always ready for some more WASSHOI WASSHOI-SHOI ( X '______________' )
Basically, a lot fewer shows this season, which is nice since I need to do something productive with my time over the next few months. Then again, that just means I have more to look forward to in winter (Nodame Cantabile Finale, Sora no Woto, Durarara!!, and maybe Katanagatari? Hidamari Sketch ×☆☆☆? Dance in the Vampire Bund?)
