Porco Rosso.

Yup, I've finally watched this movie. It started out pretty weird, even for anime, and I wasn't sure I liked it. Then the mechanic came in, and I saw the Miyazaki in it again. Just as lovably unique as all his other movies.

Just started Rozen Maiden desu.

And I haven't seen the character that actually overuses Desu, either... I have just heard about her. I find the show a tad creepy at the moment.

Suisei-seki appears around the mid part of the series. It's worth the wait, though, she's an amazing character ripe with comedy potential and she definitely jump starts the dynamics of the relationships bewteen the characters.

I watched today (finally!) Ponyo. Yay for australian movie releases.

Gonzo has no new shows next season, their store is closing up, and their share prices are pretty much at rock-bottom. They gave up primary production to another studio on Saki, one of their recent shows that have actually been successful, and even Strike Witches couldn't save them. So, Shangri-la and Saki were the last two shows that were theirs.

I just started "Hayate no Gotoku!" I've been following the manga for quite a while now, so I decided to check out the anime.

Took a look at the first episode of A Certain Scientific Railgun. It's a side story from A Certain Magical Index that features the most popular character from Index, Mikoto Misaka, a.k.a. Biribiri, a.k.a. Railgun. I'm not entirely sure whether Index is prerequisite viewing. I certainly didn't last all the way through Index, so the only character I was familiar with was Biribiri. Still, it wasn't bad for an introduction episode. I guess I'll be waiting for the next few episode before deciding on this one.

Well, I'm sad to hear that Gonzo always pushed the bar in production values and experimentation. I wonder the causes that made them lose their once privileged position.

Essentially, their shows were too experimental, in that they didn't appeal to the typical audience. As you know, shows make money off of DVD sales in Japan, and well, their shows weren't making much in the way of DVD sales. Compounding with that is the fact that they typically went solo in producing their shows rather than producing them as part of a production committee. What this did was it made their losses much larger, since the costs weren't spread to other parties in the production committee model. All of this lead to their realizing that they weren't going to last very long far too late.

So I watched the first episode of The Sacred Blacksmith and I was expecting generic fantasy anime. It pretty much was that. You've got your young, aspiring knight who's had no battle experience and is a member of a prestigious house. You've got your independent trade cities and empires. You've got your markets and merchants and monsters. You've got a mysterious and skilled swordsman. I honestly felt like quitting halfway through the episode, but the last few minutes featuring Luke made me stick around for next week.

I watched ep 1 of Seitokai no Ichizon: Hekiyou Gakuen Seitokai at the request of a friend. The first few minutes were reference overload... I thought Abenobashi and Lucky Star were full of references, but I think this had more in-jokes than a full season of Lucky Star...

The rest of the episode was rather boring, once it became about the guy trying to get his Harem... I'm not sure this is a series I'll follow.

I've started watching Darker than Black, and I foolishly quit a long while ago in the middle of episode 6. I'm now on episode 21, and I must say that this show is amazing. In a lot of ways it reminds me of Cowboy Bebop, but that's a good thing, because it's not a rip-off or anything. Definitely going to keep watching this one.

As far anime, I just watched the 25th episode of Phantom, only one more to go. I always hate when a series ends (good ones, that is). This has been a great show. I'm also up to episode 25 of FMA: B. Haven't watched any more Samurai Champloo, due to my computer having issues, so my viewing time is quite limited.

About halfway through Eureka 7. At first, I wasn't sure it was really going to be my cup of tea, but now I LOVE it! It just took a while for it to warm up, I guess...lol.

Also, just started Code Geass...and I'm beginning to understand why I've seen this described as Death Note, just more "fabulous." lol.

Sora o Miageru Shoujo no Hitomi ni Utsuru Sekai - eps 1 through 4.
I'm really enjoying this show. It's kinda like Escaflowne if it was done by Makoto Shinkai. Totally different of course but that's the impression it leaves.

Still slowly making my way through Rozen Maiden desu. I'm also still not quite what to make of it desu. It seemed almost like horror, desu, with the stoic high society doll making the hikikomori kid her slave desu, then it seemed like comedy with hinaichigo (post her almost killing her human, anyhow desu), but it kind of goes back and forth so I can't quite place it yet desu...

And... um... Suisouseki is starting to get to me... desu desu nano desu... Such verbal tics would never work in English or in the US, so I'm at least a bit skeptical they work in Japan, outside of the Otaku population. Rika (Higurashi) got bad enough (and maybe "Nipaah" was worse) but this is starting to drive me up the wall.

For some reason Rena's "Ka na, Ka na" never bugged me, though.

Third disc of Wolf's Rain, of the first season. I love it! Kiba is so cool, and I love Toboe's trying to please attitude.

I am plodding along slowly in going through shows this season because I am crushed by a ton of work. (；´Д`)

I did catch the first few minutes of Seitokai no Ichizon, which was essentially a bunch of random references with none of the comedic timing of better-written comedies like Lucky Star or Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei. It was enough to make me decide not to pursue any further for the time being.

I also have Nyan Koi and Letter Bee still to go through, but I've deferred them until later.

I did make some time for Kobato, which was a show I was kind of interested in and have heard good things about. It's done by Madhouse and looks pretty good. The character isn't dealbreakingly stupid and it seems like it can turn out to be a nice, cute, little show. The Maaya Sakamoto OP and Megumi Nakajima ED combo certainly doesn't hurt and Kana Hanazawa is pretty good as Kobato, although her singing is a bit lacking. Looking forward to more.

Kimi ni Todoke is a shoujo manga I've been reading about a girl who looks like Sadako from the ring and has really poor social skills. The guy in this series is the most popular guy in the class because he's nice and etc, etc, and is pretty much the only person who doesn't treat her like a ghost.

So the anime adaptation airs this season and I went out of my way to watch the first episode. It's a very solid adaptation of the first chapter, which is essentially a prologue/one-shot introduction. The production is top-notch and everything about the story and characters is exactly how I remembered them.

My only gripe with it is Mamiko Noto as Sawako. At a glance, she's a pretty good fit for the role (typecast lolol). Unfortunately, her whispery voice can only be used in short bursts before it becomes irritating. It's not as noticeable when she does her typical supporting roles, like Kotomi in Clannad. It becomes maddening when she talks constantly throughout the entire episode.

Luckily, my enjoyment of Kimi ni Todoke is greater than my disdain for Noto Mamiko, so it should be fine. If you like shoujo, you should probably watch this.

Finished the first season of Code Geass. And geez, even though I've been spoiled as to the ultimate ending of the series, that was an insanity inducing cliffhanger of a season finale! VERY much looking forward to seeing R2.

Oh, and the audio commentaries were hilarious!!
