Due to legality issues, this thread has been cleaned out!

Sorry guys!

Go out and buy "5 Centimeters Per Second!
(Although trust me when I say it was a beautiful post ^^ Sadly it links - But until this thread gets deleted, below is some enjoyment on the topic)

I'll leave this pretty picture up

Beginning with the lyrical image of cherry blossoms falling at five centimeters a second, Makoto Shinkai paints a breathtaking vivid tableau of young love, desire, loss, and hope. Told in three heartbreaking chapters, we follow the young dreamer Takaki through his life as cruel winters, cold technology, silence, and, finally, adult obligations and responsibility converge to crush the delicate petals of true love. Finding beauty in everyday objects and moments, Shinkai reveals he is a master of animation and haunting, beautiful storytelling. Fall in love with this gorgeous, thoughtful film, hailed by critics and audiences alike for its beauty, truth, and innovation in animation.

Uh sorry. Crunchyroll video-distribution website was the only one that was giving streaming rights to show 5 Centimeters Per Second on the net for now.

Why don't you say what you wanted to say minus links? And why don't we talk about the movie? This thread doesn't have to get deleted.

First of all, I believe distribution of the movie has ceased, since ADV lost the licence, so it'll be extremely hard for you to buy it. Of course, I'll probably buy the Japanese BRD instead, since this deserves to be watched at 1080p.

I enjoyed the first part the most, then I realized during the second part that it wouldn't end happily. I didn't like the musical montage at the end since I felt like it was a cheap way to conclude the movie instead of having to actually write something.

Its been re release by another company. They even re dub it as well and show it on Crunchyroll on the 28th of Feb.

Just who the company and when it will be release is another story.

But I still seen copies of the ADV release out there.

I love this movie; the topic can certainly be left open to discuss it as long as it's not linking to an illegal stream of it. Anyways, Shinkai's work is always gorgeous, and I'm sad that the distribution got pulled for this. I do have a copy though, so that's good at least. XD But who's getting the distribution rights now that ADV has lost them?

There was reports that Bandai Entertainment got it, but they keep denying that they have it.

But all fingers kind of point to Bandai, since Bang Zoom! Entertainment did the work on the new dub.

Bang Zoom! Entertainment mostly has ties to Bandai, when it comes to dub work.

Here is the list of new dub cast.

Erika Weinstein as Akari Shinohara

Johnny Yong Bosch as Takaki Toono

Kira Buckland as Kanae Sumita

J.C. Miller as Teammate

Jennifer Alyx as Kanae’s Friend

Jonathan Meza as Teammate

Julie Ann Taylor as Kanae’s Sister

Kirk Thornton as Teacher

Michelle Ruff as Risa

Tara Platt as Akari (Older)

Tony Oliver as Train Station Announcer

ADV Films still have the other two Makato Shinkai films.

I believe this is the last work by Makoto Shinkai or there is one more that he plan on doing.

Oh really? His last?
I hadn't heard that. When you found out that information, was there an explanation given as to why he's planning on stopping now?

It was reported a few years ago on an anime news site. But I can't remember of it was going to be this one or he plans another one and that will be it.

When they reported it, it came from an interview with a newspaper in Japan. He just said that he doesn't want to keep going and going and make more films. He felt that he has done all that he wanted to do. Then again, he could pull a Hayao Miyazaki on us and keep working.

5 Centimeters is a beautiful film, and one of the few romance Anime I actually like. And now that it's distribution has ceased, I feel particularly satisfied to know I have my own copy safely stowed away.

Really great to see all the feedback on this movie and that I'm not alone in my love for it. I spent a lot of time typing out the post which directly related to the links, but considering the amount of attention is has I will retype up something to really make the thread shine a little brighter. Give me a day or two =) Early & long day tomorrow.

I was insanely fortunate to find this thing at the Best Buy in Mall of America on Thanksgiving weekend. It really sucks that it got discontinued. Shinkai anime is something really special.

I remember going to Blockbuster and picking up this weird DVD that said "The Voices of a Distant Star". I thought it looked more Japanese than other anime there and so I was quite interested... turned out I loved it so much I had to buy it a few years later when I got money, heh heh. It came packaged with The Place Promised..

SERIOUSLY GUYS, SEE "THE PLACE PROMISED IN OUR EARLY DAYS."
It is AMAZING. It's hard to decide favorites in the Shinkai area, but that would probably be mine ^_^

Personally, I found the last segment of the three the weakest. It appears that the 5 Centimeters per Second novel takes care of that. While the movie shows us a very narrow space of time and the musical montage, the novel explores his relationships and motivations all the way from his university days and gives more insight into his actions during his high school days.

I found a great post that summarizes this part of the novel. Interestingly, while the last segment was the shortest, this part of the novel was actually the longest, so there's a lot that wasn't covered in the movie. It's definitely given me a better perspective through which to consider the ending of the movie and I like it much better than the musical montage that I felt was kind of a copout.

I liked this one quite a bit...But all in all I think "Place Promised" was my favorite Shinkai film. I hope that he continues to make more.

I believe that he has at least one more in the works if I remember correctly.

Its an exceptional film with some of the best art I've ever seen, extremely detailed. Its also nice because its suitable for any age, no objectionable content here at all. The story's underlying theme of how peoples lives change over time is well done.

So guys, on a scale from 1 to BAWWWW, how depressed did this make you feel? The first time I watched it, I did it just before I went to sleep. It basically kept me up after that and was ruining my entire day the next day.

I'll give it only two "w": BAWW

It was a bit depressing but not gratuitously bleak as other more depressing animes (where for instance, characters are victim of cruel turns of destiny and the coldness of humanity.) He did not let go and that stumped his emotional growth. It was unfortunate, but mostly his own fault.
