Gundam Unicorn Discussion

Wikipedia wrote:"In the June 2009 issue of the Japanese monthly manga magazine, Gundam Ace, it was announced that an anime adaptation for Gundam Unicorn has been green-lit for late 2009. It will be directed by Kazuhiro Furuhashi and will feature screenplays written by Yasuyuki Muto. Hajime Katoki, who was the mechanical designer for the novel, will also work on the anime alongside veteran designers Junya Ishigaki and Yoshinori Sayama, and newcomer Nobuhiko Genba. Yoshikazu Yasuhiko's character designs will be adapted for animation by Kumiko Takahashi, and the music will be composed by Hiroyuki Sawano. It is planned to be six 50 minutes episodes and Sunrise has announced its plan to release the anime worldwide."

Okay, I know I'm not the only one srsly excited over this. After the disappointment of Gundam 00, we finally get an awesome series that deserves to be animated and is lookin' pretty good so far. That the original author is working alongside with it is very promising and Hiroyuki Sawano? I am so looking forward to his work in this series.

So what are your thoughts?

A return to the glorious UC timeline. That said, I don't know anything about Unicorn, and I still have to make my way through Zeta, ZZ, and Char's Counterattack (I'm still in the middle of 0083 right now). I do think that the mecha designs will be pretty hot, based on the model kits I've seen of the Unicorn Gundam and the Sinanju.

UC Timeline - check.

Not drawn by a Yaoi artist - check.

First Gundam series I've cared about in awhile.

It is great to see some more done in The UC. I just wish they would do an American release of ZZ before they release this in the US.

Dislike:

Ok, we get it Gundam, Char was a popular character. We all understand that now stop making a clone of him for every newer series...please.

Mobile Suit Gundam: Operation Pony Express...through HELL!

I liked:

Everything else.

I'm glad Sunrise finally released the format information, instead of sending mixed signals.

That aside, this should be interesting
I'd imagine some might be disappointed that it isn't a TV series. But, 6 50-minute OVAs are about equivalent to 1 13-episode series anyway.

Yeah, I am kind of disappointed that it isn't a TV series, but if they only need a short amount of time to tell the story adequately, then I guess that's okay. War in the Pocket was brilliant, and it was very short, so...

It's just Char trying to disguise himself every time.

Not me. I've seen the comparison between OVA movies and Tv series and 95% of the time, the movies are way better. Especially since there aren't any "let's fill in episode time with crack" ideas.

Not really. Most are glad that its an OVA then a TV series. Most people are pointing out that an OVA is at times better have then a TV series, since it gives more freedom, more budget, as much time as they need to make it finished product.

As for me, I wish we had more OVAs then TV series now a days.

I'm excited. I didn't even know about this. I would like to see ZZ though, because Char's Counterattack was just like "????" since I hadn't seen ZZ.
Now that one UC one I always screw up the name to.....F91? That I did NOT like. Weird and confusing.
Now I wanna watch some UC Gundam again! Hahaha!

I haven't seen F91 yet, but apparently it was supposed to be a TV series, and they made a movie out of it instead. Maybe that's why it was confusing.

Double Zeta Gundam is unfairly maligned among Gundam fans; try to be open-minded when you watch it. It's "happy Tomino", which means the tone is quite different from Zeta Gundam. (Personally, I liked it better than Zeta, but what do I know...)

I mostly like Gundam F91 for its music, since the story was a bit odd and confusing.

It being set thirty years after Char's Counterattack, the Crossbone Vanguard becomes the new Zion.

But since Gundam Unicorn set after the event of the second New Zeon War in Char's Counter Attack, and before the Cosmo Babylon in F-91. We get a more clear picture on the start of the rise of Crossbone Vanguard.

And yes, Gundam F91 was originally planned as a full-length television series. But it hit a production snag due to staff disputes, and the project was stopped after the screenplays for the first thirteen episodes were written. It was then decided that what was made of the show would be condensed into a theatrical feature film. Predictably, condensing a story originally intended to be told over the course of fifty half-hour episodes into less than two hours of screen time required much of the original story to be cut, and the results are generally regarded as less than satisfactory.

But still, I didn't like the flying disk cutters that flew into space and the fact that Carozzo "Iron Mask" Ronah sounded like Darth Vader with a head cold and his moble suit look crazy and nothing like a Gundam at all.

Tomino's shows have been hit-or-miss with me. I enjoyed the original Gundam movie trilogy and Turn A Gundam more than Victory Gundam or Overman King Gainer. But I thought ZZ was a pretty decent show, once it actually figured out where it wanted to go.

Tomino didn't like Victory Gundam as well. Tomino even said that it was least favorite of all the Gundam titles and in the DVD box initial print blooklet was entitled" Don't buy these DVD, because you should not watch them!

Then again, its believe that he was trying to kill the franchise with this series.

Here's a slightly better quality trailer.
Full Frontal is the best antagonist's name ever.
