I Don't Love Myself

Postby Riggidig » Mon Aug 10, 2009 11:28 am

Jesus told us to love others as we love ourselves. The problem is, what if you don't love yourself though?

For a long time now, I've never really liked myself, liked who I am. I sometimes wish I was someone else so I could beat myself up for how pathetic I am. I am unable to forgive myself for mistakes I've made in the past, as well as the present.

I prayed to God tonight to help me love myself, but it was SO difficult. The words could barely get over my lips. It was as if they wouldn't come out. Instead I started crying, realising how messed up my inner psyche is.

I know I've already posted something here today, but that was more something I just wanted to share with everyone, not really a prayer request.

This, however, I REALLY could use some prayers for, please?

God bless

Rigard

... wow... ;__;

Rig, I haven't known you for very long, but from the time's we've bumped into each other you've never once failed in putting a smile on my face. My social life is falling to pieces and the other day it really started getting to me. Reading your jabs at me playing WoW was exactly what I needed to keep smiling.

I'm not kidding when I say you're funny and interesting and from the moment I saw your introduction thread I felt that I would like to know you better. Please don't feel badly about yourself... you've got a fantastic personality...

Keep praying that the Lord will teach you to like yourself, and make an effort to compliment and recognise the things in yourself that you like. Please remember that God loves you not matter what you do.

I'll pray for you...

Psalm 139:14:

"I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well."

Part of loving yourself comes from loving God. Even knowing that God loves you.

Verse 17:

"How precious are your thoughts about me, O God. They cannot be numbered."

For God does love you. lol... This is sort of contradictory. But we are not supposed to love ourselves, meaning not through our own merit. Because through our own merit, we should hate ourselves, but through God, we are able to love ourselves. Because alone, we have no reason to love ourselves, since our identity is exactly what we might think it is. We are nothing apart from God. God gives us the identity as his children to love ourselves.

And I think that may be what it is. You may be feeling insecure in who you are. But know this, you are a beloved child of God, and that should be more than enough. For if God loves you, then it would be arrogant to try and say otherwise.

Instead of thinking about yourself, think of God's love for you, and who you are because of it.

Mr. Rigard,

I can understand in a sense how it feels to not like yourself.

God created you with a specific thought in His mind. You are such a wonderful, one-of-a-kind masterpiece of the one who created everything. It's a great privilege. I don't know your life story of anything, but I feel that God wants you to realize how special you really are.

I wish there was more I could tell you, but nothing comes to mind. Do know, however, that I'm praying for you brother.
Jeremiah 29:11-"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord,"plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."

I guess everyone has things about themselves that they don't like about themselves 8( Loving oneself can be a pretty tough thing to do. All we can do is work on it :)

Try to concentrate on the good things ^___^ From the short time I've known you, I can tell there's a few ^__^

You know where to reach me if you want to talk more ^^ In the meantime, I'll be praying

A simple phrase that help's me when I think about past sins:

"Christ's blood was enough!"

Our God is gracious and just God - forgiving!

Riggidig I don't know you that well, but from your last post about your Mom I already love you as a brother. Someone who's willing to do what God commanded is someone I'm willing to die for.

Psalm 119:63 "I am a friend to all who fear you, to all who follow your precepts"

I think I'll add you to my prayer circle. We've all been through darkness, Rig. I am no different.

Reon your post makes me blush. I am but an ordinary man, trying to do the Lord's will as best he can. Thank you for your words. They encourage me :-)

God bless

You need to put your security in God. Having a low view of yourself will effect your relationships with other people in a detrimental way.

He will take you on a journey of finding that security. Ask and you will receive. He has for me. It was pretty brutal and painful, but that is how he often refines us.

Ask the Lord to show you how He sees you. Ask him who He's making you into. Then keep reminding yourself of who He tells you you are. Say it to yourself, write it on paper that you'll see often, tape it to the walls, even.

Your problem is that you see yourself through your own eyes. Trust God's eyes, instead.
The cake used to be a lie like you, but then it took a portal to the deception core.

I was walking through CAA when all of a sudden I found:

SOMEONE WAS TRYING TO BEAT ME AT MY SELF-LOATHING! GRAHH!!! 8自 <----- Do you like my angry face of doom?

I know how it feels and I don't like it when it happens to me (and feel vehemently that I'm the only one when it happens)

That stated:
What are YOU in the self-loathe room for @_@. I get in there for all kinds of stuff and I'm sure I'll be back.

Of course I'll pray for you. I don't think you should be in here (The self loathe room), this room is reserved for me.

God bless,
Pascal

I'm suggesting that he shouldn't be in the self-loathe room that I described above. What, you think he should be in there? I don't think anyone else deserves to be in that room.

I'm also serious that I'll pray for him. I feel bad about the way he feels about himself because I know how it feels when I'm in there. I try to make my posts a little more light hearted though because he already sounds depressed and the last thing I think he needs is for me to act all emo because he reminds me of my own personal failings.

EDIT: Fine, I edited it to make it less light hearted. I don't want to sound like I'm not taking him seriously, I just wish I could cheer him up.

Mr Smartypants and Kaligraphic: Thank you for the advice. I will take it to God and ask for Him to help me.

Pascal: Your post made me laugh. It was nice to have some light-heartedness in such a depro thread. Thank you :-)

Thanks again to everyone else as well. You are wonderful, Godly people. I pray for God's blessing upon you all.
