Oh! My Goddess, the Movie. Much, much better than I expected (My expectations on movies based on popular franchises having been lowered by Escaflowne's and others). Really good movie that both stands well on its own and enriches the whole franchise. Particularly moving for a stupidly sentimental guy such as myself.

Episode 5 of Bakemonogatari marks the end of the Mayoi Snail arc. For the past two episodes, some people were wondering why there was so much talking to the point that some of them were fed up and dropped the show. This episode has some gigantic reveals that make every single line that was spoken from the beginning of the arc in episode 3 extremely important and brought everything together. And, it even packs in a few great surprises and some major character development for Arararararagi and Senjougahara.

Yeah, I'm talking about Bakemonogatari again. Yeah, I'm trying to push it as hard as I can. I haven't enjoyed a show this much since Clannad. It's managed to overshadow Spice and Wolf II and Umineko for me this season, both of which I've been anticipating for over half a year.

Bakemonogatari is really good.

My roommate found copies of FLCL at a local used DVD store. Since I missed episodes 3 and 4 the first time around (adding to the confusion), I'm watching it again. I'm on episode 5 right now, but decided to take a break from the weirdness, haha.
After I finish that, I'll go back to watching Samurai 7.

So I've finally finished the long process of watching Honey and Clover. Everything about the show is slow: the pacing, the walking, the talking. I found the characters irritating at first, which was why I'd put off finishing it for so long. It took me over half of the first season before it interested me enough in the story. Watching episodes 1 to 13 took over half a year. I'd finally managed to plow through the rest of it this time.

I was getting all ready to give up again, but I found the second half of the first season and the second season to be pretty good. This is probably the result of things actually moving and happening as opposed to long stretches of melancholy monologuing. I'll also mention that I didn't like H&C's comedic bits, particularly Morita. It's always AH MORITA STOP DOING THAT CRAZY THING YOU ARE SO RANDOM LOL. Also not a fan of the sudden mood changes.

Ghost in the Shell, the original movie. Another victory for cheap, preowned anime!

I've heard Grave of the Fireflies is an excellent, powerful movie, but it's also extremely depressing. I really wanna see it sometime, but . . . I just can't bring myself to rent it.

So, the fall season previews weren't spectacular (I'll be making a thread about that in a few weeks), so I've been forced to accelerate my plans to watch Darker than BLACK so that I have something (DtB 2) to watch in the fall. So far, I'm surprised by the format: it's fairly episodic and is delivered in chunks of two, so that every two episodes acts like one long, contiguous episode. Also, Hei is a pretty cool guy.

Currently watching K-on (on second episode going to the third). So far it's pretty good and very funny. I'm looking for season 1 of Aria but I'm having a hard time, trying to find Piano as well but having a hard time.

Finally got around watching the cult comedy Excel Saga. I just finished the first 5 eps and I got a good share of laughs (the parodies of Leiji Matsumoto's works and Tokimeki Memorial deserve two big thumbs up!), but it doesn't yet rate better in my list than School Rumble, Lucky Star or Jungle wa Itsumo Hale nochi Guu. Its rating may improve depending on the outcome of the still hair-thin "serious" plotline all the madness is being built around.

A late pickup for the summer season. I originally passed over Sora no Manimani, because I was already watching so much stuff. However, much like Saki, another forum that I go to has been hopping on this show, and through the power of peer pressure, I decided I needed to give it a shot. It's not bad and is fairly typical romantic comedy, but the injections of astronomy make it a lot more interesting. Looks like I'll be keeping it.

I'm watching Saikano and TRYING to find subbed episodes of Gegege no Kitaro (None of it was every dubbed in english) but I think I've seen every one that's been subbed so far, so I guess I will just make do with Hakaba Kitaro.

That's part of the reason why I'm watching it, sure it's depressing but it does good for me after an endless amount of obnoxiously happy Disney endings being shoved down my throat.

Also it's enjoyable and Chise is so KAWAIIIIIIIIII :jump:

Actually I first found out about it when I was looking for M.U.G.E.N. characters like KOS-MOS and found this Chise one that was cute and powerful and had guns and mechanical wings attached to it I'm only on episode 4 but I love it so far.
