That's... a pretty fair assessment, actually.

I'm actually, and pleasantly surprised that there are people here who don't like Bokurano. Nothing's more appaling for me than a super nihilistic, sadistic show being praised to high heavens like it's the best piece of literature/story to grace the Earth.

I just assumed the type of people who hang around here probably wouldn't have seen it. That or we like to pretend it doesn't exist.

Thing is, I think it's a good lesson to the average guy... If you screw up, be a man about it (which Makoto certainly wasn't)... If you don't, you may end up on a "nice boat." If that happened more often, I think guys would think twice about ditching their girlfriends when they get them pregnant...

My parents ran a Maternity home, and 95% of the time, the girls' boyfriends took off, and went out of their way to avoid any responsibility... Go figure, right? No ring, so she doesn't mean a thing. I was actually surprised when my mom told me NONE of them ended tragically... It could be because they had help from people like my parents, though. Or it could be because these girls still love these jerk*** guys and... Well, I won't go any further than that.

Of course, there was more to it than that, and I actually only watched the first few eps and the last one, so I'm not sure all that happened in between.

Personally, I didn't find the ending horrendous compared to the rest of the show. It's a logical conclusion to the entire thing. The part that makes it terrible for me are the episodes just before the last one, which are the ones you didn't watch. It's those episodes, not the final one, that drove home just how terrible of a person Makoto and almost every character in that show is.

School Days irked me more because the source material had alternate endings, none of which were as popular as the sensationalized BAD END. The Makoto in the show is a loser because that's the route people wanted him to follow. He's a monster because the audience wanted him to be one, so they could watch him fall; it's the ultimate "Tonight, someone's life is ruined for your entertainment."

Though had they gone after one of the more normal endings, School Days could be criticized as not being unique enough, so it's a crapshoot really.

Actually, School Days was famous for its multiple bad ends. In fact, the anime end is not one of the game endings and was completely original and later versions of the game added more bad ends. So, I don't think there was any chance at all that an anime adaptation could ever have ended on a normal route.

Keep in mind, I watched School Days having no prior knowledge that the eroge existed. I watched it 'cause it looked like a nice romantic comedy sorta thing, which is what I wanted to watch at that time (I had just come off of Higurashi, I think). I'm inclined to agree with blkmage, however - it wasn't really the ending that made me hate the series, it was actually the episodes leading up to it that really bothered me. Of course, the butchering at the end didn't help.

Bob, I understand that there are guys out there in the world who probably do deserve to end up like Makoto, but I don't quite think any of it warrants being decapitated and having your head taken out to sea by some psycho.

I'll tell you guys the same thing I told to Jamie/Kkun when I finished it - I want those 6 and a half hours of my life back.

It is funny to see how wildly swing the reviews for that series. From utter garbage to total awesome. Anyway:

Sengoku Basara depends on your willingness to take it for what it is: A caricature of Japanese history where warlords cause huge explosions, one of the Tokugawas is a mecha, Date Masamune rides around on a horse with motorbike handles and exhaust pipes, and Takeda Shingen scales walls at a near right angle.

The more of this series that I see, the more that I want to see. And ultimately, Blkmage, I think you were the one who has finally sold me on it.

Well, I know there are some people who liked the first one better, but I'm extremely partial to the OVA because of its lush visuals and faithfulness to the manga. The first one looks almost a decade older than it actually is, and I'm not thrilled with the storyline they made up.

Either way, be warned that this series is extremely gory and a bit theologically suspect.

And yes....Hetalia. :thumb: Whenever my brother and I pass an Italian restaurant, we yell PASTAAAA!

Geass I don't quite get either.

Kaiba is a story set in a dark, dystopian future, explores love, life and death, immortality, and identity, and is presented in a deceptively simple, almost child-like art style.

Blkmage got the Kaiba one.

The Code Geass probably would need some explaining, but is relatively simply in my own mind.

What I Watched: Code Geass, obviously

What I Expected: Instant noodles, a.k.a. CLAMP was here.

What I Got: Angry BBQ hates winter. This third panel could have been a lot of things actually, but since I remembered the rule of thumb, "Every line you draw on a person's face adds one year to their age," I of course was referencing stuff like this and this.
