It's only the first episode, but I am super impressed by Bakemonogatari. It's easily the most visually stunning show that SHAFT has done since ef. It's funny, but it's not exactly a comedy. It's sort of a weird supernatural sort of thing. It's based on a light novel series by Nisio Isin. As a bonus, it features a song by a collaboration between supercell, the internet famous group that did a bunch of popular Hatsune Miku songs, and nagi, a famous Nico Nico Douga singer. I am super excited for this show now. Based on first episodes so far, I'd say this has a pretty good shot at being the best of the season. Also happens to be show 4 of 6 that features Yui Horie.

FMA: Brotherhood episodes 13-14. Thoroughly delightful and satisfactory. Can't wait for the next one!

Death Note episodes 16-28. O.O Oh my goodness episode 25!!!!!! I think my life will never be the same *faints* What a shock. It was a beautifully-done episode, though.

I also watched Howl's Moving Castle for the umpteenth time just because I felt like it.

Two more new shows, both sequels and both Yui Horie-less for once.

Spice and Wolf II makes me really happy. I wasn't that excited when I watched the episode 00 OVA that was released a few months ago, but this first episode had all the chemistry between Horo and Lawrence that I've come to love. It wasn't too long ago that I read the volume that they're covering either and things that I anticipated were there right where I expected them to be. I'm very much looking forward to the rest of this.

Zan Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei is, well, more ZETSUBOUSHITA. It delivers exactly what you would expect. The OP is probably the weakest of the three; it won't be adding another side to the great BURE vs RUMBA debate. Basically, if you've stuck with SZS all the way until now, you're probably interested in this.

Got through some more Full Metal Alchemist, Kanon, and Sailor Moon S today. These 3 seem to be the ones I'm watching most lately. Though I really should watch more Kenshin these days.

Episode 103 of Sailor Moon is definitely one of the funniest ones I've seen yet....

Just watched "Giniro no Kami no Agito" (silver haired Agito)

Beautiful animation, completely absurd story. At least its creative, but... Why would becoming a plant give you super speed, and the ability to run on lava rocks and practically fly? Spiderman's oft non-sequitur powers have nothing on these plant people. Among other things that just annoyed me about this... Probably the most beautiful piece of animation put out in a REALLY long time, though. Probably worth watching just for the visuals.

With the whole anvilicious "Technology is bad, mmkay?" thing and, admittedly, beautiful animation, you'd think this was a Miyazaki film, but it's not.

Tokyo Magnitude 8.0's first episode started with seeing the normal life of the main character in Toyko 2030 and going to a Tachikoma exhibition. The main character hates being treated like a kid, etc. The actual earthquake happens near the end of the episode and I expect to see more destruction wrought more impressively for much of the next episode. Also, background people are not meant to be animated in CG.

It starts making sense far far later in the series, which admitely starts a bit slow. Just enjoy for now Vash being stupid/looking cool dichotomy and go with the tide. :D

I watched Inuyasha the 4th movie. I haven't seen the others as I rarely watch movies based on long running series which are usually barely canonical fanservice explotaition of the franchise. I picked it up just because it was there and I wanted to remember Inusyasha, which I enjoyed most of the time when it was on TV. It was just okay as a movie but as the Inuyasha memory refreshener I expected it to be, it was certainly not disappointing. Maybe I'll pick the manga now it is finished, though I've heard it became slow and uneventful for a long stretch before the convoluted and seemingly rushed ending.

Watched some more Akage no Anne. I love Anne of Green Gables, but if this darn show doesn't pick up the pace a little, I think I'm going to end up dropping it for a while again. @_@

Finally got around watching the end eps of Haibane Renmei. Trully a beautiful series that taught me a lot, especially as a christian. I heartfully recommend this series to everyone. It is a bit slow paced, but it's full of insightful reflexion on themes such as mortality, guilt and redemption.

The interview with the author, Yoshitoshe ABe included in the last DVD shows him as someone with a vivd interest in spirituality (though, in all delicacy he chose not to reveal what are his own beliefs). He said that the main theme of Haibane Renmei was that of Salvation and it came to him after his own personal search for it. He (and his lifelong friend and producer of most series he's worked in) are also revealed as having a high artistic vision and integrity which motivated them to do such a particularly non-commercial product and now I look forward to watch some of their lesser known series such as Niea_7 and Texhonologize.

Penguin's Memory: Shiawase Monogatari.

It's one of the best anime films ever made, but it's extremely underrated, which is a shame. Think "The Deer Hunter" except sanitized for a PG-13 audience and with penguins instead of humans. If you can find it, by all means SEE IT, even though it's in Japanese and the chances of finding a subtitled copy are second to none.

Watched up to ep 7 of Abenobashi Mahou Shoutengai. It is incredible how far the pendulum swing between extremes of quality in this anime. Episodes 3 and 5 are absolute garbage (in my opinion): going for a more cartoonish look the animation looks exagerated and extremelly poor. They are also full of innecesary innuendo and the story amounts to nothing. But then again, the other episodes are really funny, and some of them cleverly animated with really original ideas and themes. And then episode 7 is a radical shift of mood and treatment dismissing the tropes it had established itself in the previous episodes. I guess thats GAINAX for you. It feels to me that the bad episodes are those where they are trying to imitate their previous hit, FLCL but fail painfully, mostly because they take the same "crazy" approach while not supporting it with really good animation and music.

I think I will not be able to decide if this series is bad or good until the last episode. As of now at least it has made me laugh a lot a handful times.

...you must begin a reading program immediately so that you may understand the crises of our age... Begin with the late Romans, including Boethius, of course. Then you should dip rather extensively into early Medieval. You may skip the Renaissance and the Enlightenment. That is mostly dangerous propaganda. Now that I think of it, you had better skip the Romantics and the Victorians too. For the contemporary period, you should study some selected comic books.

FMA: Brotherhood episode 15 - New characters that I was very excited to see, and a fun experience throughout.

Death Note episodes 29-37 - FINISHED!!! Wow, what a doozy of an ending @_@ Light was...yeah, wow. Highly satisfactory ending to a good anime...though I still wish they could take back the events of Episode 25....
