Wi-Fi for DS

Postby Dr.Faust » Wed Jul 08, 2009 10:49 am

I need help finding a way to set up Wi-Fi for my DS with out changing my code to WEP. My parents are afrade that some one will hack our computer if we use WEP. I have seen USB's that use WEP that dosen't effect the code on the computer. My sister also has a Mac and WEP dosent work on it. Please hepl me.

Ok, several things here.

1) If your computers do not have Remote Desktop enabled, your router does not have port forwarding enabled, or you have strong passwords (this is most important regardless), then there is little worry about someone hacking into your computers themselves. However, it might be possible to steal your wireless internet.

2) To prevent theft of internet, you can enable the router to accept only connections from specified MAC addresses. This will ensure that your router only accepts connections from machines that you specify. This will make your router very secure and perhaps ease your parents' fears.

3) The likelihood of someone hacking your WEP key is unlikely, but it is real, unfortunately. There is no way to make old DS games function through WPA or WPA2.

Additionally a Macintosh will in fact work with a WEP. That's what I'd been using for mine until I bought my new router. I've not converted to WPA2.
