Tales of Monkey Island

PINCH ME

This is the most awesome game-related news I've heard in a very long time. Definitely on my to-buy list.

Seriously, could Telltale Games get any more amazing right now? I don't think so.

Yeah, even though I've never played the Monkey Island games, I know enough about them to be excited by this news. It also helps that I've enjoyed every Telltale game I've played...

Well I didn't care for Escape from Monkey Island so I really couldn't care less about Tales from Monkey Island (I'll still play it though probably just cause it's monkey island). However, the Secret of Monkey Island Special Edition, THAT I am looking forward too. I haven't played the original in ages so it will be nice to try that one again.

Wish they would remake Monkey Island 2 though... thats the only one I never played and I hear it's the best of the lot (which has to be pretty awesome because I thought Curse of Monkey Island was fantastic)

Dude, did you read the website? LucasArts isn't making Tales. Telltale Games is. Therefore, Tales will be at least a bajillion times better than Escape was.

Ironically, the Secret of Monkey Island remake *is* being made by LucasArts. I'm not really looking forward to it, since I still have the original. Plus the new art style looks, in my opinion, terrible. But I'll probably buy it anyway since I like the talkie aspect.

Preliminary reports indicate that you can choose to display the game in the old 256-color graphic style in the remake. :p

Wait.. ? I haven't played a Monkey game in some time but I could have sworn ALL the monkey island games where put out by LucasArts...

And I don't see how you can complain about the 3D look in the SE (and ya you can turn that on/off anyway I heard) when Tales looks pretty crappy as far as graphics go (I don't understand why they don't just do it in that 2D cell shaded look like in Curse. I thought that whole look and feel was awesome!!)

Yeah, but there's not enough difference between that and the version I already have to warrant buying it. XD

They were, but Telltale bought the license.

Because Guybrush looks plain scary.

Because Telltale is still a pretty small company, and that would require more work than can be put into a monthly episodic series.

...I think.

Neat! I only played Escape from Monkey Island, and enjoyed the sense of humor in the game. Glad to hear that they'll be bringing back the original game. I'd like to play it since you guys mention it's better than it's sequel.

It was okay. It had very tricky puzzles, but it was not quite as amazing as the original. I felt a bit disappointed when I finished it.

That may very well be the case. Telltale has been using something called the Telltale engine for games ranging from Sam and Max to Strong Bad's Cool Game for Attractive People. It's a very good engine considering the games they are making and the actual size of the company.

Scarecrow, you need to have some faith in Telltale. They are very good at making point and click adventure games and are one of the few companies that's really been able to utilize episodic gaming to its fullest. You may not like the art, but I can almost guarantee that the writting superb and the puzzles will be pretty good. Of course, it will probably take an episode or two until Telltale really starts producing gold with this series, that's just the way all of their series have been so far.
