Ailing Aunt

Postby Ingemar » Wed Mar 18, 2009 11:37 pm

For a few years now, my aunt has had cancer. It has been a veritable roller coaster ride. Lately though, it seems that she's taken a turn for the worse.

I admire that she has been enduring all this crap. I am told she is in great pain (and she really looks bad) but around me and my family, she seems as cheerful as ever. But maybe it's because she doesn't have to endure alone.

I'm happy that she is happy. But I don't have any illusions of her surviving through this year. All I am praying for is that God give her grace and mercy. And if that means she becomes cancer free, wonderful. But I won't be disappointed or angry at God if she dies too soon.

My grandma had lung cancer when I was 15 --I watched her slowly fade in hospice --it's hard, but it was a relief when she passed --she was no longer suffering and is in the presence of our Savior.

I will pray for you, my friend.
"Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal." 2 Corinthians 4:16-18

"Since the creation of the Internet, the Earth's rotation has been fueled, primarily, by the collective spinning of English teachers in their graves."

I've been making a point of visiting Aunt as often as possible. Right now things are... looking better than they did a few days ago. She can sit upright and has been allowed to consume clear liquid. If that's "better," you can imagine how bad it was several days ago (was only allowed to eat ice chips and was on an IV). Apparently if her WBC goes up the doctors will release her.

Haven't updated yet, but right now she is in hospice. She looks so emaciated and just plain terrible. But she said she is ready to be with the Lord. I drove up to NorCal to spend some time with her and it feels so... melancholy that this may be the last time I see her alive.

Definitely praying. I know how it feels. When I was smaller, my mom got breast cancer that eventually reached her brain and she was in a hospice again. She looked pretty bad and yet I was too small to know that that was the last time I would see her, and yet I left the day before she passed away. My best wishes and prayer are with her, oh gosh, now I'm crying! (sorry)
Definitely praying for her and her family!
May God bless her forever!

Thank you for everything.

She died today at 10:38 AM. Now she is where there is no more suffering.

Our prayers are with your family in this time of loss. We can consciously know it's better for loved ones who have passed, but our hearts do still sorrow.

Grace and peace to you.

It's sad to read the updates to the point which I was hoping I would not have to read...

I'm sorry, Ingemar. But she's with God now, yes? =)
