Cowboy Bebop. Natch.

I was also extremely impressed with Eureka 7.

Gunslinger Girl's dub impressed me. Other than the occasional egregious mispronunciation of an Italian names/words, it was well-cast, translated, and acted.

This. XD.

From the little bit I've seen, FMA's dub is excellent. Also, Miyazaki's films have good dubbing.

Compared to the stuff these days, you could say they were kinda mediocre, but after watching episodes of star blazers and voltron, Robotech wasn't half bad.

In my opinion, the best dub, in terms of voice acting as well as fitting the Japanese voices, is Wolf's Rain. (When you have Johnny Yong Bosch, Crispin Freeman, and Steven Blum all in the same anime, you know you've got something good ;) ) That's an amazing dub; I'd watch it five more times just to hear their awesome voices.

Haibane Renmei comes in as a close second. The English voices are so similar to their Japanese counterparts it's almost scary, and they convey the emotion of the scene so well, somehow making the climactic scene even more emotional than in the original.

Full Metal Alchemist also had a pretty good dub. There were some voices and lines that could have been done so much better, but for the most part the dub has it where it counts. The main characters are voiced by competent voice actors, at least.

Steamboy also had a good dub, I thought. The lip synch was incredible.

And, of course, the Miyazaki movies are all really well done.
You can find out things about the past that you never knew. And from what you've learned, you may see some things differently in the present. You're the one that changes. Not the past.

There's only a few I prefer over watching the subs. I'm not a fair judge of the rest, (since after a show or so, if I prefer the sub, I don't watch the dub anymore)

A few cases I genuinely think are better than the subs are:

Full Metal Panic (Chris Patton utterly nailed Sousuke Sagara. The Japanese VA didn't do him very well.)

Slayers (The series just doesn't seem right unless Lisa Ortiz is playing Lina)

Hare and Guu (I can't think of a single character done badly on the show.)

Cromartie High School. The writers did a brilliant job of rewriting this so that all the jokes work in English.

There are others, but I'm posting this on my coffee break. No time to dredge them up out of memory.

Of those that I have first watched in English because I saw them first on TV, I have found watching Bleach, Bebop, Samurai Champloo, Witch Hunter Robin, and FLCL the best.

Anything by Miyazaki, of course. (Which is handy for showing them to non-anime fans who aren't likely to be interested in a subtitled movie XD) Disney handled those excellently - Sophie (Howl's Moving Castle) and Haku (Spirited Away) were particularly good.

Fruits Basket, I will always cherish. X3 It's not the best dub ever, but it's quite decent, and it's the only series that I'm more used to watching in English.

Fullmetal Alchemist, as well. As well as having good VAs, it's one series where the dub-localization (removing honorifics in translation, etc) doesn't hurt it at all since the setting is Western. XD

Bleach is pretty nice too. I prefer the sub on that one, but only in a very nitpicky way considering that the voices I have a problem with are all very minor characters. So it doesn't really hurt it much.

Wow, I must be in the minority here, but to me the most mind-blowing dub of all would have to be Fruits Basket. I especially adored John Bergmeier as Shigure and Jerry Jewell as Kyo. Honestly, before I saw this dub, I NEVER watched dubs - I was a total sub snob. :red:

Close second, though, would have to be Fullmetal Alchemist. As much as I loved the Japanese seiyuus for that show, I thought the English VA's did a stellar job.

Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicles I am also enjoying very much. Maybe not as spectacularly dubbed as Furuba and FMA, but very solid.

Based on its dub premiere at Sakura-con, I'm gonna throw Romeo X Juliet into the mix.

Okay, real answer time. My favorite dub will always be Ranma 1/2. I just find it to be amazing in English. I can't imagine watching the show in Japanese, it just wouldn't be as good to me. Also, though many may disagree with me, I prefer Sarah Strange's male Ranma to Richard Ian Cox. She just does it better. He wasn't bad, just not as good as she was.

I'm watching that dub now and I agree! I was kind of concerned because I loved the original so much but for the most part Funimation didn't disappoint.

I typically watch dubs, but the ones that blew me away were FMA (I'm so excited for Brotherhood dub) and Ouran. No surprise their casts were very similar. ;) But overall, I'm very happy with what Funimation puts out.

I would agree with this. There are a few dubs I've enjoyed here and there (like Wolf's Rain, Death Note, and Cowboy Bebop) that weren't, but the VAST majority of my favorite dubs have been by Funimation.

Wolf's Rain: I liked this almost as much as the original Japanese! They did a wonderful job on picking the cast.

Death Note: This dub was also really well done.

Ouran High School Host Club: Dubs are well done here too. I really liked Kyouya's english VA.

Black Blood Brothers: Well done, the same person who dubs Kyouya from OHSHC dubs Jiro.

Lastly the english version of Hinata from Naruto.
