Time Cable Channels

Postby ashfire » Wed Dec 31, 2008 5:18 pm

Yahoo News is saying that alot of Time cable channels could shut down by tonight
depending on if they get paid a extra amount of money by cable providers. This maybe in just three states but could there be more involved.
This has all MTV, Comedy Central, Nickelodeon channels being shut down.

Well it's in my state as well, I have been seeing the messages on tv.

But I actually have Suddenlink(Formally Cox) so I don't have to worry about it.

The deal is Viacom has demanded that Time Warner Cable pay an extra 12% to carry its package of 19 channels including MTV, VH-1, Nickelodeon, Comedy Central, Spike and TV Land. Time Warner has refused, saying the increase amounts to an additional $39 million a year on top of the hundreds of millions of dollars that it already pays Viacom.

Also Bright House Cable will lose the 19 channels, since Time Warner Cable owns a major interest in Bright House.

So, when it comes down to it, will be every Time Warner Cable and Bright House Cable subscribers will be hit. There are 12.3 million subscribers nationwide for Time Warner Cable.

Time Warner Cable, Viacom reach deal, avoid blackout

USA Today wrote:LOS ANGELES (AP) — Time Warner Cable Inc. said Wednesday it reached a deal with Viacom Inc. on carriage fees, avoiding a blackout of 19 cable channels including MTV and Comedy Central.

The two sides, citing disagreement over fee hikes, had threatened a damaging blackout at midnight Eastern time that would have cut off shows such as "SpongeBob SquarePants" and "The Colbert Report" to about 15.7 million subscribers.

Shortly after agreeing to extend a midnight deadline by an hour, Time Warner Cable spokesman Alex Dudley said the sides agreed on a new contract.

The handshake deal meant the channels will not go dark and a joint statement was expected within the hour, Dudley said.

Viacom had mounted an advertising onslaught warning customers of the possible blackout, taking out ads in major newspapers and websites from The New York Times and TVGuide.com featuring a tearful "Dora the Explorer" crying and clinging to her monkey pal, Boots.

I have to admit my first reaction was just to shrug. *chuckles* I don't watch any of those channels.

Now if they take away Discover, Animal Planet, and Disney, we're going to have some words.

The choice has been made. There's no looking back. I won't let up, back up, give up, or shut up. My focus clear. My path is straight. My God, reliable. I'm a disciple of Christ.

Gods plan is like the sun. its too big and bright to look at directly, and sometimes the rain clouds cover it, but sometimes the plan dapples through the clouds and we can see beautiful glimpses of what he has in store for us.

So, Spongebob can now continue to run rampant for about 25 hours a day........
"To be a good listener, you must acquire a musical culture...you must be familiar with the history and development of music, you must listen...to receive music you have to open your ears and wait for the music, you must believe that it is something you need ...to listen is an effort, and just to hear has no merit. A duck hears also." - Igor Stravinsky
