Urgent Request: Friend Could Be Deported...

Postby R. Zion » Sun Dec 28, 2008 3:01 pm

I have a friend who I've known since kindergarten (20-21 years). He's lived in the United States since he was six (and he's now 27) after some missionaries adopted him from his family in Mexico because he's blind.

He's been working with a lawyer and the local blind center for some time now trying to get his green card, but with no success. According to him, they're running out of options and the next (and possibly last) one that they're going to try is to go to our State Senator and try to get a resolution passed that, if he understands it correctly, will allow him to live and work in the US but not become a citizen.

If this doesn't go through, he's may have to be sent back to Mexico, a country he hasn't been to since he was a child and whose language he no longer speaks. If possible, pray that the Lord will either provide favor with the Senator that the resolution will be passed or that another door will be opened so that he will be able to remain in the country.

Thanks for reading and lifting this up in prayer.

Definitely praying!

One thing I don't understand is if he was adopted legally by americans, or if the family themselves were mexicans. The reason that I say so is that if he was adopted by americans he should have officially been acknowledged as one for the situation, I assume, is the same with a wife. If an american marries a mexican, she is legally allowed in the U.S. I personally know this because I have a teacher who when through this process. Anyways, hope I could help some if possible. I think it's bad that they would try to deport a completely functional person back to mexico, its not like he is going around doing anything wrong I don't think. Anyways, I will truly pray for the best.

God be with you guys!

Well, according to the response I just got back, he never actually was adopted officially. The way it sounds, his 'adoptive' parents hadn't planned on keeping as long as they did, bringing him to the US for the surgeries he needed on his eyes. However, by the time they were completed, he was apparently school age so they kept him and enrolled him here... or something to that effect.

As for the marriage option, he tells me that the problem these days is that if the I.C.E. gets wind of the real reason for the marriage, they will not acknowledge it. In his case, however, they would not deport him, but they would not allow him to work, either.

Well, the Lord be praised for this...

Since talking to my friend yesterday and submitting this request, he's been in touch with the Blind Center and his Lawyer. Apparently the prior method for getting his green card is going through after all. All the applicants for the job he was waiting on are all, apparently, cited for some reason, so he may yet be getting the job at the Blind Center and, through that, his green card. He also told me that even if for some reason that doesn't work out, his lawyer feels they have a good chance with our Senator.

Keep praying that things go well but thank the Lord for this development!
