I'll give it a watch though. Things have come full circle now. I watched Superbook as a kid and if this comes to fruition, my kids will be able to watch too!
I'm one of the producers working on the new Superbook series and believe me I agree with you guys about traditional 2D anime over 3D. When we started developing the series a couple of years ago it had started out as a true anime style show. We spent a year developing a traditionally animated pilot episodes with completed character model sheets, backgrounds, layouts, storyboards and story reel animatics. This was one of the reasons why we hired Disney Feature directors and art directors with traditional animation as their strengths. When we started developing the series, we need to focus on an international market and when you deal with television networks in China, Indonesia, India, Europe and the former Soviet Union, the demand for 3D animated programs is at an all time high. Last month I attended MIPCOM in Cannes, this is the largest selling/buying of animation programs on the face of the planet. Again, networks are wanting 3D programs for their channel. So you either saw cheap turn and burn Flash based shows or so so 3D animation. Being a broadcast ministry, we need to develop a series that has a long shelf life, and is internationally marketable and that is why we switched from a pilot episode ready to go to the Philippines in a matter of a few weeks from the completion of the 2D pre-production package, stop down and spent several more months re-gearing for 3D. I understand everyone's feelings and hope you will at least give the new series a try. Thanks for checking out the featurette and please feel free to contact me for any questions. Thanks again...
