I think this is the year of moaning and groaning for every College Football fan on CAA...even though my Mountaineers just got a great victory I still don't think we'll finish the regular season 10-2 (of course we might not have to with the way the Big East is going)...on slight funny note, Rutgers actually has a good chance at being bowl eligible this year...yeah...shocking isn't it...

The day that Phillip Fulmer is gone from Tennessee will be the best day ever for UT fans everywhere.

Most of us don't want Tennessee to win any more games this year, so that he will be gone. Its not faith in the team, but faith in the coaching and the most dumbest head coaching contract in the history of college football.

Groan-worthy year, indeed.

I groan every time I see a team run the Option. I think the defense can sniff that one out kids, or are you expecting them to be surprised when the whole offense moves right and then suddenly a little farther to the right?

Uh, the option use to be one of the hardest offense to stop. Sure, your not going to beat some of the better defenses in the SEC, Big-10 and PAC-10 with it, but it still can work, just ask Air Force and Navy, but the flex-bone is a lot better then the old option which Air Force and Navy does use.

If you look at the spread, its a mix of the option with a passing game. Georgia Tech has done better this year with Paul Jonhson's option playbook and will be even better, when he gets the kind of players that he looking for.

Now, I don't like the option all the time, but I still feel that it works and I like when teams do use the option at times.

Then again, this comes from me and I use the single wing and the wishbone wide formation in NCAA 2009 football game, so I'm kind of a lover of the option.

The probablem with the option (both spread and non-spread) is if you don't have the right players (mainly a running quarterback), your going to have problems. Look at Michigan...

That is true, but at the same time, a counter point to the statement that you need the right players would be to look at Air Force, Navy and Georgia Tech are doing well and they don't always have the right players for the option as well. We now well that Air Force and Navy just can't go and get anyone they want to play for them.

I do think its a bit silly for a team that has never really use the option start using it just because he can run. You do have to teach the O-line how to block in a option system and if you just going to let the QB run for it, then that kind beats the point of using the option.

The Spread Offense is sort of like the new "pass and shoot" which was the new "option." It has merits mostly in that the offense has not been totally figured out by defenses yet. Once they do, it'll go the way of the option - relegated to Saturday afternoons by teams without the correct personnel to do anything else hoping the defense does not have the right personnel to stop it.

Even as the spread offense is just now making the rounds in college, the pros have already started to marginalize it. Even the worst pro defenses are starting to adjust and properly defend it.

OK, that was a little over-harsh, but while the option may be fine in the MAC or WAC, it has no business being called half a dozen times in a game between OSU and Penn State.

When you said that the other day, I knew that you were thinking of the OSU/PSU game. That is something that I agree with as flipping back and forth between it and the Ala/Tenn game. The way they did it, it was like they knew that QB was going have the ball. If they are really going to use that more, then they need to look at old game films of Neb back in the 90's.

I can say that there was no point in calling them in that game, after it showed that it wasn't working for both teams.

I remember a few years ago, before Mike Bobo, became the offensive coordinator for Georgia. Mark Richt had the power I and Maryland I formation in his playbook, and they would use it only for short yard gain and it work a lot of the times. I think they still have them, but they only use it every now and then.

This is something that OSU and PSU should do as not use it half a dozen times a game, just because they have a QB that can run.

They should mix it up for it to work, but not like every play.

With that a little news out of Tennessee.

I love how there is two stories to this.

Fulmer defends himself at media day, says firing rumors are 'misinformation'

Source says 6-6 record won't save coach's job

I feel that the Knoxville News is telling more of the truth then what may have been sent to ESPN or any other sports news channels and websites.

The way it look, he will be gone, but he will not leave untill the end of the season.

Edit: Wow, what a weekend! Pitt beats Notre Dame 36-33 in 4 TO, Northwestern beats Minnesota with a tipped pass and Northwestern cornerback David Oredugba zigzagged 48 yards to the end zone, putting Northwestern ahead with 12 seconds left, Georgia Tech beats FSU, when FSU running back Marcus Sims lost the ball right at the goal line , Michigan State beats Wisconsin 25-24 with a 44 yard field goal with 7 seconds left and Texas Tech beats Texas with a touchdown pass with 1 second on the clock.

Yeah, Texas/Texas Tech was just...wow...WVU further asserted itself as the class of the Big East...and the maddness that is November has begun...while we are still sort of on the topic of Fulmer, I have some rather interesting news from the recruiting trail that pertains to both Tennessee and WVU...

ESPN Insider wrote:ESPN Recruting insider reported that Tajh Boyd has commited to Tennesse

ESPNU 150 prospect Tajh Boyd of Phoebus (Hampton, Va.), rated No. 10 among Class of 2009 quarterbacks, has announced his commitment to Tennessee.

Boyd, who had committed to West Virginia in March, but changed his mind last month, said that he didn't feel comfortable with the Mountaineers' offensive philosophy.

He spoke with the Daily Press after making his decision Saturday night, "I had planned on dragging out the process a little longer, but I wanted to make a decision and then focus on the rest of the season and states. I think this will be the best place for me."

Boyd also commented on the rumors regarding Phil Fulmer's job status, "I know people are talking about that, but when I spoke with Coach Fulmer and their athletic director (Mike Hamilton), they told me they didn't think anything was going to happen. Plus, I have to like the school in general. And I love the school."

He made the announcement following Phoebus' 77-0 destruction of Denbigh (Newport News, Va.). Boyd completed five of nine passes or 121 yards before re-injuring his knee. However, Boyd was not limping after the game.

Among Boyd's other offers were Boston College, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Louisville, Oregon, Penn State and South Florida. He passed for 2,059 yards and 25 touchdowns as a junior.

From the sound of this article, Fulmer is still going to be around next year...and Boyd has not really watched the Tennesse offense (seriously...aren't you guys doing much worse then us on that side of the ball? Also, note that Boyd is listed as a running quarterback. Though he is a very accurate passer as well...so again...what?)

I read about him picking Tennessee last night on The Knoxville News-Sentinel. I was kind of in shock to see that as I was mostly looking for what the writers has to say after the Vols lost to the Gamecocks last night.

I think we rank #113 or so offense, we are better then Auburn but that doesn't really count. We only ran the ball for 39 yards last night and I think that maybe a season high:lol: . I don't know what this kid is drinking, but I like to have what he is having, so maybe I will think Tennessee looks better then they do.

And here is the kicker, Boyd was at the Tennessee/Alabama game.

Here is a bit more depth report about it.

[quote=" Knoxville News-Sentinel"]

Boyd, top Virginia QB, commits to Vols

HAMPTON, Va. - An hour following his team’s 77-0 thrashing of Denbigh, most of which he watched from the sideline, Phoebus quarterback Tajh Boyd announced his commitment to Tennessee on Saturday afternoon.

Boyd, who committed to West Virginia in March but changed his mind last month, visited the Knoxville campus last weekend. [B]He said he is aware of the rumors regarding Vols coach Phillip Fulmer’s job status, but he’s confident there won’t be a change.

“I know people are talking about that, but when I spoke with Coach Fulmer and their athletic director (Mike Hamilton), they told me they didn’t think anything was going to happen,â€

I can party like its 1998, Phillip Fulmer is gone from Tennesseee.

I'm a Penn State fan, so right now it's a matter of hoping the Nittany Lions win out and getting help from the opponents of Alabama and Texas Tech. Hopefully the BCS would put PSU in if they're one of two undefeated BCS squads, but I never know with that system. The Big Ten may not be as good, but going undefeated in a BCS conference is still an accomplishment (plus wins over USC-beater Oregon State and Ohio State should count for something). I'll even be at Beaver Stadium for the Indiana game, so I'm hoping for a win at Iowa to make sure that one really means something. (Nothing can be taken for granted in college football.)

The biggest advantage Penn State has is Joe Paterno. If they go undefeated there is a possibility that the polls will bump them up high enough that they end up in the National Championship instead of Texas Tech just because this is probably the last chance for him to get another National Championship. Part of why Texas Tech was even able to get up to number 2 was because Penn State didn't play last week so really I wouldn't be that concerned about them being passed over.

It looks like Texas Tech has the harder road to the National Championship game.

They still have Ok St, OU and the Big 12 title game as well, if they win out.

Alabama test is this week at LSU and I know LSU is not playing well, but I do have a feeling that this game. They are going to be ready for it.

If Alabama wins out and goes to the SEC title game, they most likely will play Fla and that is not going to be easy.

PSU only two games that I see them having problems with is Iowa and MSU, but I think it looks like MSU would be better team to knock them off.

Michigan State has looked very good in gereneral...come to think of it so has a good chunk of the underachievers within the Big Ten (especially Minesota and Northwestern). We'll have to see how the rest of the season pans out, however I do think Penn State has a very good shot at making it into the National Championship this year in general. I just don't think that Texas Tech is going to survive unbeaten...

Forgot all about it.

But the TCU/Utah game was a very good game.

Utah came back and won 13 to 10.

Iowa beat PSU today!

I really didn't think it would be Iowa that would beat them, but MSU.

Alabama is not going to make to the BCS title game, I feel that Fla will get them and Texas will get beat by OU.

I kind of think that Utah may lose to BYU, that is the only other game that Utah has that could be a problem.

And in other news.

Tennessee has tabbed North Carolina coach Butch Davis as the leading candidate to replace ousted football coach Phillip Fulmer, multiple sources have told the Knoxville News Sentinel.

Well...I just missed a great game which my Mountaineers were on the wrong side of, though they don't really have anything ashamed of. Thank you ESPN/Brighthouse/every other station for not broadcasting this game...but really, just wow...depending on how Cincinnati plays against Pitt, we may have a situation where the three best teams in the Big East are seriously equal in ability and skill level. Its a crazy year to be a fan of a Big East team...you really don't know what's going to happen next...

Sources close to the National Football Post have informed us that Clemson University may be interested in hiring current Tennessee Volunteers head coach Philip Fulmer to fill the vacancy left by Tommy Bowden. Fulmer will not be back at Tennessee next season.

In addition to Fulmer, we are hearing that current Auburn head coach Tommy Tuberville may become a candidate for the Clemson job as well.

Tennessee is also looking at Lane Kiffin, Brian Kelly and Mike Leach.

Hmmm...well today is an interesting day in the world of College Football...not only is Ball State 10-0 for the first time ever...but there are fun headlines like these:

-The Big East has found it's new commisioner

-BCS commitee is not on board with Obama's Play-off plan

About the Tennessee coaching search...Brian Kelly...get him...while any of those candidates would be good replacememnts, I don't think Mike Leach is going to be drawn away from Texas Tech after this year and personally I think Kelly would do a better job the Kiffin (of course losing Brian Kelly would hurt the Big East majorly...but whatever...he's a good coach and probably wouldn't of stuck around much longer anyway).

Right now, the news coming out of Knoxville is, Davis and Gruden not interested. Really, I didn't think Gruden would come anyway and as much as I ike Davis. I think he is better off at NC.

The two that I would want is Brian Kelly or Will Muschamp. I think Mike Leach is a good coach, but I just feel that his system wouldn't work in the SEC. I could be wrong, but Alabama did shut them down in the Cotton Bowl a years back.

Leach should stay at Texas Tech...not because I don't think his system wouldn't work elsewhere but because I think he is a better fit for that conference then the SEC. I just can't see Leach in the SEC...he's just too Offensively minded...
