[quote="ShiroiHikari (post: 1261647)"]Here's some obscurity for ya:
World Masterpiece Theater!I've been trying to find some of those series for a long time, and The Trapp Family Story (yes, THAT Trapp family) really piqued my interest. I actually found a bit of it and have been watching it. It's pretty cute so far, but I have a sinking feeling I'll never get to finish it because only 15 of the 40 episodes are available at present.
I also found the
Anne of Green Gables series (Akage no An) from 1979! This one is quite a bit slower-paced than I was expecting, but it's nice to have anyway. The animation quality is quite nice]
I watched some of Akage no An, but I couldn't stand Anne's voice... Hideous... Seriously. I really got into the Von Trapp Family story, but I could never find all the episodes. One of the World Masterpiece theater I was actually able to watch from beginning to end is "Daddy Long Legs."
What I loved about it was that the characters all legitimately aged over the course of the show, even if they all should have started as college students based on the book. They do seem to make all the characters younger in those series than they were in the books they were based on.
Granted, there were some concepts I wasn't particularly happy about in the story... Moreso in the original book than in the anime version, in which the philosophies of the book aren't quite as clear. I still loved the story, though. I wonder if they'd ever do the sequel in anime form... Probably not...
BTW, I don't find Lain to be underrated or overrated... Just... Rated, I suppose. Also, many of the titles beind discussed here aren't so much underrated as they are obscure. Obscure != Underrated.
