South Texas -- Regarding Hurricane Ike

Postby NJel » Wed Sep 10, 2008 2:53 pm

I just want to let you guys know that Ike is expected to slam into my region and hit us hard. The entire part of where I live has been declared a "disaster" area already and we may be forced to evacuate around midnight. I don't know what God has planned for my family and the many other families in my city, but I have faith that, well, "Father knows best", so I am putting it into his hands.

God says that wherever there are two or more in agreement that there He is in the midst of them. I am asking for whoever is willing to lend out a voice of agreement for the safety of everyone, because we all know that God is a God full of mercy and forgiveness.

Yes, I'll definitely be praying. I live in the Houston area, so it's coming our way. But my town is far enough north to not have to be evacuated --my town is where people evacuate to.
I'm thinking it'll be like Hurricane Rita again ---but hopefully without all the bad, bad interstate stuff that happened.

I'm a little worried about Houston and Corpus, myself. Unlike Post-Katrina Louisiana, I don't think our state government has taken the lessons that Rita served up very seriously. At least, if they have, they have not been terribly public about it. I felt that the Houston / Galveston area especially demonstrated it had serious evacuation problems. And I remember the very tired family I met during that time, who had just been shipped up to Dallas from Houston, just as they'd been getting used to living there as refugees from Katrina. What kind of intelligence does it show of an organizing agency that ships refugees from a hurricane to another hurricane-risk area?

Hopefully, the local and county governments have been more active. I'm too far away to know about that.

College football games are already getting canceled, and people as far inland as Austin are being told to expect a hurricane. It should be interesting. Last time a tropical storm remained 'storm' category all the way to Dallas, I was in high school. I wonder if this one will.

Anyhow, take care and stay safe. May God protect you and yours, and all you hold dear.
May the Lord bless you and keep you.
May He cause His face to shine upon you.
May He lift up His countenance and grant you peace.

Just got word that my university will be closed tomorrow --and there are already evacuees from Galveston here checking into hotels. My university will probably open up the Coliseum for shelter like they did with Rita. Many stores are already out of gasoline and supplies. Edit: New truck came with gasoline, so there's gas again!
Yep, looking a lot like Hurrican Rita. The government/official people are doing a little better, but I agree that it doesn't seem like they're taking Ike very seriously.
I pray everyone stays safe. If you are in a safe location, please stay there until the hurricane passes.

Things are really bad in the coastal cities (Galveston, Surfside, Kemah, etc) already --and the hurricane is still 100 miles out! Lots of flooding and property damage due to the storm surge. Many thousands of people decided to stay on Galveston Island --and it is supposed to bear the brunt of Ike.
Please be in prayer for these people and their families.

I'm still watching hurricane coverage.. Guys this storm is going to be pretty devestating... I really wish that those who had stayed in Galveston hadn't... there was a really strong warning that to stay would mean "Certain Death." Let's pray that doesn't happen.

I just found out that my grandparents are going to get a weaker part of this storm (the live in the northeastern part of Texas) it will be considerably weaker, (around 50 mph) but that's still a decent wind and they got A LOT of trees too.

This is really scary.

I just want to thank everyone for their prayers! One of the elders at our church assembled the church together last Wednesday and we all rebuked the hurricane away from our city. My city didn't get a SINGLE drop of rain, so praise the Lord that he is so awesome!

Today we took the time to gather around and pray for all of those who are suffering or have suffered because of the hurricane, so I know for a fact that God will be with them in their time of trial. It certainly is awesome that God protected our city from the hurricane. At the last few hours, a warm front (or something like that--I forget what they're called) intercepted the hurricane in front of our city and sort of shifted the hurricane upwards.

I certainly do pray for everyone that is being affected by Ike though. That is one nasty hurricane!

Just want to check in and let everyone know that I'm okay. My dorm flooded, so I'm staying with a couple of friends who live upstairs until maintenance can get the carpet replaced.
Things are kind of crazy. There are limbs down everywhere and a few trees --also there has been looting and an 8 p.m. curfew has been enacted by the police. The university is closed until Wednesday --we have power here on campus, but the rest of town does not.
A friend of mine had a tree fall on the house that she and her husband are having built. I'm not sure what the damage is.
Please continue to be in prayer.
