Recommendations on J-Rock,and Pop

Postby Amzi Live » Sun Jul 27, 2008 5:58 pm

I never thought that I would want to look into J-Rock,and Pop music, but I've heard some neat stuff(Mostly in anime),and I'd like to listen to more J-Artist out there that just sound great.
It doesn't have to be just J-Rock or Pop exclusively.
Oh,and if there are any cool singles out there with nice guitar parts or melodies I'd love to hear those as well.(I just like getting ideas, and trying to improve on my guitar skills also)
So,if any of you guys could help me out I'd totally be grateful.

I personally like Asian Kung-fu Generation, L'arc en Ciel, the Beat Crusaders and Home made Kazoku... My sis likes harder stuff like Dir en Grey, Malice Mizer, Holstein, Plastic Tree, etc... I can't quite go there. :|

Peelander-Z. One of the flat-out coolest J-rock bands I've ever heard.

Somehow I don't really see Psycho le Cemu and SiD going next to each other in a list... XD If you want oshare-kei, I'd also recommend Antic Cafe because they are hilarious and have some pretty good music.

Super Junior

Isn't SuJu Korean?

Anyways, I also recommend Plastic Tree. Their style ranges from rock to pop to borderline hypnotic, but they're pretty fantastic, and the lyrics tend to be beautifully abstract. Miyavi, too, has had some pretty significant style shifts over his career, so you're bound to find something you like somewhere in his discography.

EDIT: I also forgot to mention that MUCC is quite good.

Yeah, I guess I forgot to mention I did list some outside the J-Rock/pop box. Thanks for the notation wouldn't want to confuse anyone! BoA is another Korean singer who also sings in Japanese as well as Loveholic. Though Loveholic is strictly a Korean band.

Plastic Tree has a lot of drug references though and Miyavi's older stuff has some explict lyrics but I do love both artists! ^__^

Well at least you put one good one in that GINORMOUS LIST. Just messing. I admit I like a few others on the list, and maybe I missed some and could repost some artists by accident... but here are a few of my favorites. I've even included links to youtube videos, so you can preview the music. ]The Brilliant Green[/b]
I dunno if they were mentioned, since Tomoko Kawase was already mentioned... but I like her with The Brilliant Green. I like her solo stuff, but BuriGuri is just too epic. She is the best with them, in my ooooopinion. :P
