My cat Sidney

Postby sharien chan » Tue Aug 05, 2008 12:55 pm

Please pray for my cat Sidney. Within the last 5 days he has lost a lot of weight, won't really eat, and doesn't do anything but sleep. It's really out of character for him. He also walks around like he's in pain, and moves really slowly.
I'm worried about him. My stepmom thinks he has cancer or something, but he's still relatively a young cat. T_T

Dear Jesus,

Please heal Sharien's cat, Sidney. Something sounds really wrong and it sounds like he's also in pain. Please heal him and give Sharien & her mom the information they need to help Sidney. In your name we pray,
Amen.

Do you know if Sidney has tested positive for Feline Leukemia in the past?
If you don't know what FLV is, it's a virus that causes cancer-like symptoms and from what I am told has no cure. There is a vaccine, but the virus is transmitted through bodily fluids so a kitten may get it from its mother's milk or if your cat hasn't been vaccinated and has gone outside, he might have gotten it. It's a very common virus among cats, but it is latent, so even if your cat tests positive they might live for a loooong time before it, if ever, manifests itself.

But honestly, my cat Riley died of Feline Leukemia, and he had the same symptoms... he just lay around all day really sick. You should probably take Sidney to the vet. :/

BTW, if you need someone to talk to about it.. I've been there.

See the thing is I don't know Sidney's medical history. He randomly adopted us (his owner was a college student who had to leave him at her aunt's house when she graduated and moved across the country. He didn't like the aunt's house and found our house because we were leaving food out for our group of feral cats)

Praying that Sidney will get better soon.

On a side note, I wouldn't jump to conclusions either. FLV and FIV only come from contact with others cats (saliva, blood, pee, ect.). If he's vaccinated against them or doesn't interact with other feline kind he shouldn't have it. Even if he isn't vaccinated and hangs out around other kitties, it could still be something totally unrelated and minor like hot weather that's got him down and he might just kick out of it in a couple days.

Well I also know that he has something called Mega Colon...basically his intestinal tract is like...inflamed a lot. And he gets "impacted"...I'm not even getting into that...
So I already know he has health issues. And he eats so much usually and now he's barely eating, and he's lost probably about 10 lbs in 5 days. He used to be so hard to pick up but now he's so easy to pick up. T_T
He's going to the vet tomorrow so I just hope it's something easy to cure. He's only 6...I just pray we don't have to put him to sleep.

Update:
Took Sidney to the vet....he has another flare up of Mega Colon...he basically just can't go to the bathroom and is full of...well you know. XD
So he's going to be fixed and then returned to us. The only problem is that this is a reoccurring issue. And it happens every six months. The medication he is on he is supposed to take twice daily but when he does he can't stop going to the bathroom, so we can only do it once a day. But that obviously isn't working either. So if it keeps happening I think he's probably going to get put to sleep.

I'm really glad you at least know what's going on now! Although it really sucks, I'm still praying for you both...

Thanks ^_^
I feel so bad for my cat. It's gotta be awful. He was having stomach spasms and whatnot. He looked miserable. At least now he'll feel better.
