ANN wrote:Animation World Magazine posted an interview with Peter Chung, the creator of MTV's Aeon Flux animated series and the director of The Animatrix's "Matriculated" short, in which Chung notes he has been working on adaptations of Astro Boy, Wicked City, and Cyborg 009. The Korean American animator said he did storyboards last year for IMAGI's 2009 computer-graphics film adaptation of Osamu Tezuka's Astro Boy manga classic about a robotic boy. Chung is now working on an adaptation of Wicked City, the horror adventure novel by Hideyuki Kikuchi (Vampire Hunter D) that was made popular worldwide by Yoshiaki Kawajiri's animated movie of the same name.
In another current project, Chung has written a story and redesigned the characters for an animated feature adaptation of the Cyborg 009 franchise from one of the major figures of science fiction manga, Shotaro Ishinomori. In the original Cyborg 009 manga, the secret Black Ghost organization transforms nine unsuspecting humans into cyborgs. However, the nine cyborgs turn on their masters and protect the rest of humanity from Black Ghost's plans for world war. According to Chung, he grew up on stories like Cyborg 009 that he is now adapting, and he "end[s] up getting involved because they were such a big source of inspiration for me." He is also working on a new, unannounced feature project of his own creation.
