Hello!

Postby Paul » Sat Jul 12, 2008 4:46 am

Hello, I'm Paul.

I just wanted to say I have taken a little time to look around, check out the art work and the site as well. It is a relief to know that not only there are Christians out there who like Anime, but that there are Christians as old as I am out there too. It helps to know I'm not as crazy as I think and I'm not alone in the universe.

I got into drawing Manga eight years ago when God spoke to me and told me to start drawing it. I couldn't draw even a good stick figure. He showed me all the graphic novels in the book store, but not a one carried his message. He told me kids read the books because of the art and the style, not because of the material between the pages. Ever since then God's been teaching me the Manga/Anime arts. I am coming into my third season as a children's church teacher, using the Manga art as a tool to teach children and adults stories from the bible. And God was right. Kid's from our children's church remembered lessons they had been taught since the beginning, through the Manga graphic arts, more than any other meathod used in our church.

God has also allowed me to do commission work. Which I have sold one, and have been hired to do two others. So it's nice to know I've heard from God and know I am doing his will.

So. There's my low down.

God bless all of you. Looking forward to seeing all the great art from fellow believers.

Paul

You teach Bible stuff with manga? Sounds awesome...

P.S. In my very conservative church, I think people (in all good intentions) might FREAK if you did that here. ;)

- Abraham Kuyper

"God the great Creator of all things doth uphold, direct, dispose, and govern all creatures, actions, and things, from the greatest even to the least, by His most wise and holy providence, according to His infallible foreknowledge and the free and immutable counsel of His own will, to the praise of the glory of His wisdom, power, justice, goodness, and mercy."
- Westminister Confession of Faith (Chapter 5, Section 1)

"The wisdom of God has found a way for the love of God to deliver sinners from the wrath of God all the while upholding the righteousness of God!!"
- John Piper

"Grace is the pleasure of God to magnify the worth of God by giving sinners the right and power to delight in God without obscuring the glory of God!"
-John Piper

"The very One from Whom we need to be saved, is the One Who has saved us."
- R.C. Sproul

"All of Christian life is ceaseless worship of God the Father, through the mediatorship of God the Son, by the indwelling power of God the Spirit, doing what God commands in Scripture, not doing what God forbids in Scripture, in culturally contextualized ways, for the furtherance of the Gospel, when both gathered for adoration, and scattered for action, in joyous response to God's glorious grace."
- Mark Driscoll

"Believers do not pray with the view of informing God about things unknown to Him, or of exciting Him to do His duty, or of urging Him as though He were reluctant. On the contrary, they pray in order that they may arouse themselves to seek Him, that they may exercise their faith in meditating on His promises, that they may relieve themselves from their anxieties by pouring them into His bosom; in a word, that they may declare that from Him alone they hope and expect, both for themselves and for others, all good things."
- Martin Luther

"I have to tell you first that I am ready to die. I have put my affairs in order. Your supreme weapon is killing. My supreme weapon is dying, because when you kill me, people all over Romania will read my books and believe on the God that I preach - even more than they do now."
- Dr. Joseph Ton, the exiled Romanian pastor (quoted by James Montgomery Boice)

"The best prayer I ever prayed had enough sin in it to condemn the whole world."
- John Bunyan

"If the Christian has lost sight of Calvary, that shows that he has lost his way."

Price Azbel, thank God you're not a country hick! (Just kidding, a portion of our church has country hicks in them, some of the best Christians you ever met.) Our Bishop used to be a rough, drinking, doping, motorcycle gang rider before he answered the call from God.

I've learned that God doesn't look for capability but availability. The Apostle Paul said "I have become all things to all men that I might see some saved for the gospel."

My Bishop is quite aware of the methods I employ and he endorses them. If it can be used to see someone saved, he'll take advantage of it. They have never questioned my use of Manga and Anime, only that I please be modest when doing such stories as Adam and Eve in the garden, David and Bathsheba, The Woman caught in Adultry taken before Jesus, due to the lack of clothing depicted in the stories. I actually done these stories and am happy to report, to all the pastors' relief, that all my characters were appropriately dressed. I have found it amazing that the kids knew that Adam and Eve wore clothes for the lesson so "...we don't sin with our eyes when they look at them." They said that, not me.

I totally applaud that you have your characters appropriately addressed. That is perhaps the largest objection most people have to anime, though there are others. It's so important to be sensitive to dressing up nice in such a sex-charged society. My church would still object to it though, as many are ex-amish, and (for all good intents and purposes) object to many popular mainstream things.

Sorry, I have to talk like that every now and then.

Hello and welcome to CAA!
That's awesome! You'll have to post some of your work! No pressure of course!
I used to think just the style of art was bad(even though I watched the anime Super Book). Later on I just thought it looked weird. Now I love it!
Anywho, hope you have an awesome time here Paul!
