New Coldplay

Postby Radical Dreamer » Sun Jun 15, 2008 7:36 pm

There is not a thread about this yet.

I'm disappointed. XD

So who else is looking forward to the new Coldplay album on June 17th? I'm basically in love with their new song, Viva la Vida, and I think the new album will be epic. Thoughts? Opinions? Questions? Discuss!

Yes, looking forward to it much. It's been something like three years since they released an album, I think. But, not good at these before-the-release discussions.

I thought the single they've released is called 'Violet Hill'? Or have they released more than one song of the album already?
May the Lord bless you and keep you.
May He cause His face to shine upon you.
May He lift up His countenance and grant you peace.

The single is called "Viva la Vida," but the album itself is called "Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends," unless I'm mistaken. I've heard a bit of it, and it sounds really nice so far. XD

"Viva La Vida" is currently only being used to promote iPod.

"Violet Hill" is the current radio single.

Viva la Vida...oh my that song is absolutely majestic. I love the grandeur feel of it. I actually prefer it to Violet Hill.

I've finally got the disc. Even though none of the tracks grabbed me like "Fix You" or "Warning Sign", every song is good. This is a great album, overall.

I love how it wraps around. The first track opens with the exact same riffs that end the last track, as if it's supposed to just keep playing continuously.

Favorite tracks... hard to say. "Cemeteries of London" is just solid. "Lost" is like a flashback to my youth, I feel like I'm listening to a brand-new Beatles. Then they cut straight into "42", which starts out amazingly like something from Zeppelin (once it gets into the lyrics, they start sounding like Coldplay again, then end recapping a line from "Lost".)

The next few tracks are just more of the same old Coldplay. (Track 5 really should be two tracks, so I guess I mean 5 and 6) Nothing wrong with that, I just don't have anything to comment.

Now we're getting into the best tracks. "Viva la Vida" is pure gold. Good song, intriguing lyrics, genius arrangement. "Violet Hill" I'd already heard, so it's hard to rank against the others that I'm hearing fresh, but it has some of the most rocking guitar work I've heard from this band yet.

"Strawberry Swing" - Now here's what I was hoping for. Something new and unique. Many years ago, they had one of these in "Clocks", and made the mistake of trying to recreate it on one track of "X&Y". This time, they found something new and fresh, instead. I think I might vote this my favorite.

One thing about it though. I was struck by how it sounded like Yuki Kajiura could have written it. Something about the instrumentation, I think, maybe the use of string and guitar chords as the principle rhythm element.

"Death and all his friends" The beginning didn't grab me the way Coldplay songs normally do, but overall it's a great piece.
May the Lord bless you and keep you.
May He cause His face to shine upon you.
May He lift up His countenance and grant you peace.

i love this album. i love all the songs, although i have to say, my faves would probably be:
Cemetaries in London, Violet Hill, Strawberry Swing, Lost! (as opposed to Lost?), Reign of Love, and Viva la Vida.

but i still love all the songs. :3

Okay, so I bought this on Tuesday and I absolutely love it.

Life in Technicolor is EPIC. I love it. I also love 42, Lovers in Japan, and naturally, Viva la Vida. Really, there's not a bad song on the entire album, and every song is noteworthy.

I also really love the album art. I've noted that several bands have foregone lyrics for artwork, and I think that's pretty cool sometimes. Anyways, yeah, the whole album is amazing amazing amazing. I love it. XD

I've always loved Coldplay...and they are getting better with every album in my opinion!

Viva la Vida is beautiful!!!!!!
They impress me with every song! There isn't one I don't enjoy! XD

"It was the wicked and wild wind
Blew down the doors to let me in
Shattered windows and the sound of drums
People couldn't believe what I'd become"

Favorite lyrics.... breathtaking writing! <3
