Does anyone here like country music? I noticed a lot of alternative and rock on the "{What are you listening to now?" thread, so probably not, but I'm just curious...
I listen to a wide variety of music (some Christian, some secular) --rock, alternative, contemporary, jazz, classical, country, etc. But am I the only person on CAA who likes country music?
If, by chance, there is someone who enjoys country music, tell me the artists/songs you like.
In country music, I enjoy Garth Brooks, Keith Urban, Reba McIntyre, old Dolly Parton and Patsy Cline, Taylor Swift and several others...
I'm interested to see what responses I'll get...

QFT. Johnny Cash is the only country artist I'll listen to. I like a wide variety of music, but I tend to generally draw the line when it comes to country and rap/R&B. XD

My former roommate played bad country music (as in, meh, lyrically) continuously for an entire semester. Kinda ruined me on the whole genre. If I hear it I'm likely to screech and vanish.

I also love Johnny Cash ("Folsom Prison Blues") and Rascal Flatts ("Skin").
Q, I understand what you mean. A lot of "popular" country music is definitely lacking in the lyrics. Which is why I tend to lean toward classic country (oh man, "Coal Miner's Daughter" and "Coat of Many Colors"--though a few modern songs have really good lyrics --"Alyssa Lies" (don't know who sings it--but it sure is sad) and "You're Not My god" by Keith Urban (a song about money not being his god) and "The Dance" by Garth Brooks are a few. Modern country songs with decent lyrics are few and far between...
Then there are songs like these little gems: "She Thinks My Tractor's Sexy" and "Redneck Woman"--the lyrics are terrible, but these songs make me laugh every time I hear them --they're so ridiculous. It makes me wonder where country music's going...
Anyway, I thought it was awesome when I found out Kelley Clarkson redid some of Reba McIntyre's old songs...she actually did a really good job...I'm impressed with her singing.

I voted 'no' but it isn't like I hate it or anything. It's just another giant industrial mill out of which are cranked low quality junk which mostly sounds like everything that came before it. I have the same throroughly unimpressed view of it that I have for R&B, Pop, Hip-hop, Rap, the various forms of commercial Christian music, etc. etc. In all of these cases there are individual examples I truly enjoy hearing, but as whole the genre is like a bread-and-water diet.

No, but I respect people who do like country music. I live in West Virginia for crying out loud. 
I have a lot of friends who live in Ohio who love listening to country or country-ish tunes.

George Strait was my very first favorite singer. I still like him, and Garth Brooks.
Oh, and Johnny Cash ain't country.
Just like Roger Miller, he was lumped in with country artists of his time but he hated it.

I wouldn't know about Miller, but having read Cash's autobiography I'd say he considered himself a country musician. Not a "Nashville" country-musician (whose music he terms at one point "mechanical bull manure") but one whose roots lie closer to the truer roots of country rather than those that went more "pop".

I don't profess to love the genre, but I will say that I have enjoyed a lot of good stuff by Johnny Cash, Garth Brooks, Rascall Flatts, the Charlie Daniels Band, David Crowder Band, and, yes, even some of Reba MacIntire's music. If it's good, I'll listen to it. Usually, though, I tend to listen to a lot of new contemporary stuff, except EMO. Dear Heaven, I can't STAND EMO! All it is is whining about how life sucks and how they're trying to kill themselves. I'm truly very sorry to anyone whose reading, and I have very good friends who are "EMO", but, seriously, if you're gonna do it, then just do it already! I just can't stand whiny people; it's one of my top pet peeves. I could go on about it, but I won't. I'll just stop right here and call it a rant, for now, anywho.
