BWAHAHA I'm gonna see this movie soooon... :P

What's REALLY cool is the actor was SO involved with this movie that he attended Nascar races so he could make it look "real" He's now a nascar fan *D*

I'm glad that you guys think it is good. the review on Rotten Tomatoes made me sad that not many appreciated it :<

Just got back from seeing it. wheeeeeeeeeeee!!! zooooom *head xplodes*

I think my retinas are fried. But I loved it!! Some of the most mind blowing effects and action scenes EVER! And I didn't think the actual plot was too bad either. I'm going to buy it!!!

What I'm really worried about now though, is that if this movie completely bombs (and it looks like it may :( ) it might make studios very weary of doing anymore movies like this. They already don't have very high hopes for REAL anime (which is why they don't do wide releases for anime movies).

One of the animation series actually had a progression of Mach cars in it, or at least referenced, so its not that out of place for the speed racer series (or racing anime in general)

My fears exactly. It was a daring move and a lot of the complaints is the cartoonish look so I doubt they will wanna make another movie like this anytime soon. Bummer cause I love the look.

Thirded. I was really hoping this movie would open the door for more like it, but it looks like the bad marketing might slam it shut instead.

It still hasn't been released here, though it will probably be out this Friday.

So, this movie actually has a real chance of being.... good? :eh: Image

Heck yes! I'm thinking about becoming one of those crazy people that sees it more than once in theaters and buys the special edition DVD on day 1.

How are we judging movie success? Or, more importantly, how is Hollywood judging it? I have not seen the box office records, but from what I gathered from the theaters showing it on two screens and the packed out theater I was in, it wasn't doing too badly.

I "we make as much money as Wisconsin" is from a statistic I saw last year that said the yearly Gross National Product of South Africa is equal to that of Wisconsin, which I found... odd. I think I'll change it back to South Africa now, to avoid confusion. :)

Oh, I see Speed Racer is only coming out the 20th of June here. Quite surprising, considering that we got Iron Man on the 1st of May and will get Indiana Jones on the 22nd.

You are entitled to your opinion... but obviously the actor thought enough that the Sport had enough to teach him...

I did think it a little wierd that he wanted to watch Nascar to teach him how to race on SpeedRacer tracks xD. (its more like a roadcourse than ovals right?)

But he was on ESPN last week talking about how much he learned from it...and how he met several drivers and stuff. Pretty awesome if you ask me...that he wanted to get into his role so much.

but yeah... it's okay, not everyone understands how awesome Nascar really is. I didn't for a while.

I'm totally seeing this movie hopefully tomorrow or so. :D

(sorry if I sounded a little defensive... by the way, I'm not honestly! So sorry if I hurt your feelings or anything, Ashley.. ^^; It's just that Nascar, in my opinion is a really exciting and engaging sport as is A LOT of other Racing sports like Formula 1, IndyCars and Ralley racing...

I only brought up that fact because I thought it was really cool tha the actor even wanted to do some research for the movie...that's all. I wasn't even trying to bring nascar into the conversation.)

No. There's a lot of geographical and political factors that prevents it from being a reality.

It teaches how to make left turns really well.

Kiyone: Rim shot

Bad joke coming from a NASCAR fan.

As for box office record for the first weekend for Speed Racer.

Speed stalls, Iron Man soars!

Sci Fi Channel wrote:Speed Stalls, Iron Soars

Speed Racer stalled in its opening weekend behind returning superhero Iron Man, the Associated Press reported. Speed, from the Wachowski brothers, debuted in second place on the May 9 weekend, taking in only about $20.2 million against a budget estimated at $120 million.

The movie, based on the popular anime, seemed unlikely to recoup its production costs in its initial theatrical run.

Iron Man, meanwhile, retained the top slot at the box office in its second weekend of release, taking in $50.5 million and raising its domestic total so far to $177.1 million, the BoxOfficeMojo Web site reported.

Revenue for Iron Man slipped just 49 percent in its second week in theaters, a respectable showing considering its massive opening.

More potential summer blockbusters are on the horizon: The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian opens May 16, and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull debuts May 22.

LOL! Oldest joke in the book XD.

"They're making a left tuuuurrn..."

XD again, which is why I kinda thought it was wierd that Emile would go and watch a nascar race for the movie... :P

There were a couple of cars the past two weeks that were decked out in Speed Racer designs! Did you notice that, Roy? I thought that was pretty nifty. The announcers were even singing the themesong. I also learned that the 'M' on Speedracer's car was designed by the artist to honor his favorite Japanese film star.

I contributed to it's second week gross yesterday.

It was not the best movie I saw in the last 8 days (saw Iron Man last week), but it was a really fun movie. I enjoyed the heck out of it.

If you only see one movie this summer, well I recommend you go and see Speed Racer, too.
