I'd love to see Prince of Persia turned into a movie and judging by some speculation I believe it may already be in the works!

Folklore is awesome! I love that game bunches. :)

As a Folklore hater, allow me to answer your question. Four simple words:

Real Time Battle System.

Real time battle = fail. Turn based = win. Therefore I hate Folklore.

Turn based games are sweeeeeet... I don't have to buy sleeping pills for my insomnia anymore.

I love it when my enemies just stand there and let me carefully choose my next move. :)

I actually do not mind either battle system for games. I used to care about that but then I was missing out on some great titles just because it wasn't turn based but like you, everyone has their preference!

I know right? I mean who wants to use their brain to play a game? Who wants to carefully plan strategies, utilize the different roles of party members, and actually try and use some intelligence to win? I'd rather just mash the X button repeatedly like a retarded chimpanzee. ;)

O RLY? You're forgetting that you basically have to use the X button all the time in Turn-based. It's like a mouse, "pick this, pick this, pick this." NOW who's mashing the X button?

And hey, who wants to have the enemy practically stand there in front of you with a huge "HIT ME" sign as you pick the "carefully coordinated strategy" for your next move? I think I'd rather play a more fun game where I have to attack and dodge my moving enemies while utilizing the environment to my advantage.

So you're insulting turn-based games for a TECHNOLOGICAL NECESSITY? You know, in early games on the NES or Atari, we didn't HAVE a million processors and 450 Gigahertz video cards to have enemies with realistic movement and the like. Thus, it was necessary to have enemies standing still to avoid the system breaking.

You see, video game designers thought that people would have this thing called IMAGINATION. I'm sure you wouldn't know what that is, being a trigger-happy psycho who just HAS to keep pressing that X button like it was your life support. See, the implication was, "These people are running around and dodging and parrying as if they were fighting in real time, but since the system can't handle that, you'll just have to have them do that in your mind."

When systems became more advanced, it was simply traditional to still portray turn-based RPGs this way, because it was the roots of the genre.

Also I'd like to point out an RPG can still be turn-based and have characters running around. Wild Arms 3 is a good example of this, where the characters still move instead of just standing around. But it's still turn-based.

See, I understand, but here's my thing. If I'm not having fun playing the game, it's not worth it. Games are primarily meant to be fun. I can accept a game with a terrible story if it has fantastic gameplay. A good example is Super Mario Bros. Absolutely hideous story. Gameplay that is unbelievable. I love that game. Compare that to Vagrant Story. Vagrant Story had a fantastic storyline. Very well done. I hated the combat system. I wanted to find out what happened next in the story, but it felt like a chore to get there. I just wasn't having fun. I can't put up with gameplay I hate for a story I like, but I'm more than willing to put up with a story I hate for gameplay I like.

But still, you're picking Star Ocean as an example. Duh. Play a GOOD real-time game like Call of Duty 3 or Red Dead Revolver where the X button isn't the only button. You STILL have to think in those games. Not in the same way exactly, you have to react quicker and use what you have right then and there. Say, for example, you've got an enemy tank in front of you: Are there any other enemies? What's the best way to approach? When is the best time to approach? What weapon do I use to deal the most damage? Where do I hit it? When do I hit it? If I miss, where will I go and what will I do?

Turn-based is more mathematical which is probably why you like it so much. Real-time is more strategic than you think and there's a variety of uncertain outcomes. Which is probably why you don't like it.

Star Ocean IS good. Unless you're talking about 3. In which case yeah that one sucks.

I play games with real time combat. I love God of War, for example.

Now, and you may think this is silly, but to me it is a HUGE distinction, I am talking about real-time RPGs. God of War is not an RPG, therefore I do not mind its combat system. Something like Folklore on the other hand IS an RPG, therefore I hate its combat system with an undying passion.

It's true that I love math, but in console RPGs I'm not concerned with number crunching. I leave that to tabletop games.

The Legend of Zelda would be fantastic! Especially if it was a mix of OoT, MM, TP, and the original. ^^

Hotel Dusk: Room 215 would be great.

How about the Paper Mario series? I think those games (kept in 2 and 3D animation styles like the game, just updated if they need to be to look fresher ^_^) would make great movies. I mean, the stories on their own were just incredible (at least, the second and third game stories were...I'd actually love to read those as novels), so why wouldn't they translate well to movies?

I heard a while back that the guy who made the documentary "The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters" (about the champion of the arcade classic Donkey Kong) was interested in making a Super Paper Mario movie...not sure if anything has really happened yet, but it'd be awesome if it worked out. (Confidentially, I'd love to play one of the characters, if only a minor role...could be fun, right? ^_^)

I also like the idea of Paper Mario --that one one of the most interesting and fun games I've played in a while--I played the one for GameCube (not sure which one that was) and I really liked the plot and the gameplay and characters were great --I think it'd make a good movie. (I loved the location of the last level--[spoiler] I'd always wanted to play on the moon [/spoiler] )

I use my brain enough at work... so by the time I am able to kick back and play a game... for a fairly short period of time, then yes, I like mindless fun. :p I'm just messing with you though, your post did make me laugh :lol: I actually do like turn based games for the most part... I just can't seem to get into some of them that people seem to love... but that is me. I feel like it is a huge waste of time, as they feel so similar, but that is only my opinion, and it is biased since I like real time quite a bit. :grin: I'm playing Lost Odyssey and the Final Fantasy games here and there.

Out of curiosity, why do you think FFX wouldn't make a good movie?

And one just occurred to me that would make a really interesting (and good if done well) movie would be Abe's Oddysee. Or maybe I'm just wishing the Oddworld movie would come out sooner.

And, though I haven't finished it yet, probably Xenogears would make a good movie.
