Problems with QuickEdit

Postby shooraijin » Fri Mar 26, 2004 8:31 am

When Quick Edit works, it's really really cool ... but two problems are cropping up.

The first one SL already knows, but just to see if others are having this problem. On my posts, and my posts only, or close by them, phantom scroll bars keep appearing. If I click Quick Edit, the scroll bar is close to, if not identical to, the scroll bar that appears in the Quick Edit window, and when I click "Hide", both the Quick Edit window *AND* the phantom scroll bar go away. All of my posts have these phantom scroll bars. I know it's to do with Quick Edit because they didn't appear until the Quick Edit feature was added to the lite skin. (I'm observing this only in Camino [Mozilla derivative] on the Mac -- MSIE6 seems to do okay on my rotten office PC.)

MSIE, however, has a problem that Camino does not which I discovered this morning. If you click on Quick Edit, and the window is smaller than 1024x768, you have a real risk of the Quick Edit window appearing outside the bounds of the window itself, meaning you can't even click the Hide button to make it go away! The Quick Edit window seems to appear right near the Quick Edit button, at least in IE.

Anyone else seeing these problems?

I noticed that sometimes when I use the "quick edit" button and I try to submit changes, the window bounces out of sight the first time (dropping down so I have to scroll downward to find it). I think this only happens when the quick edit button was close to the bottom of the window when I used it. Anyway, sometimes it doesn't do this. It's not disastrous behavior for Mozilla (plain flavor) but I was a little puzzled the first time it happened.

Does Camino run the same version of the Gecko engine that Firefox uses? If it does, I'm baffled. :-/

No, it doesn't. Firefox, however, has other issues with the system. I am also getting the phantom scrollbars in camino, but firefox (for the mac) is not showing them.

Firefox displays VERY poorly, though, which is odd. It will keep "jumping out" of the message window, and then you can't get back in. There are other issues, but I'll start there.

Hmm... Update here... Looks like what's happening is that the "quick reply" scroll bar has it's WIDTH and HEIGHT pixles switched in camino. This may very well be a camino bug.

Thoughts?

How do you figure that?

this is somewhat different from the other problems mentioned, but i think it's worth mentioning too. i noticed that everytime I Quick-Edit a post in a certain thread, it automatically subscribes me to the thread. it is really supposed to be that way?

No it isn't. That's really strange behaviour... and I'm getting that too.

Well, it appears that as the size of the page changes, it moves the bar around accordingly. Also, I took a ruler and measured where it should have been, and where it was. They were switched. It could, however, be a starteling coincidence, though.

 So, that's why I'm subscribed to most of the threads I posted in (I have to use quick edit a lot), and a few others I'm not. I just assumed it subscribed ya' if you posted.

Anyways, Straylight, I didn't feel like this was worth making another thread for, so just wanted to throw this question out there; The animation for all of the smilies is really really fast. Also, that dude in my sig is really fast too. Is this just me or is it suppose to be this way? I just find it odd. I'm using Mozilla Beta 1.7 on a P4 3Ghz machine with a .5 mb connection speed. (Windows XP) Thanks in advance!

Animations can't be fixed on this end... the way they display is specific to what browser you are using.

BTW, I've fixed the quick edit = subscription bug.

Straylight, there is still a subscription related bug.

Actually, after some more testing, there is still a subscription bug with quick edit, though now it is a different nature.

When I created my Who's Who thread, I subscribed to it so I can easily see if people responded. Then I used Quick Edit to edit some of my posts. After I saved my changes with Quick Edit, the subscription to my thread is removed automatically.

So now the new bug is: if you Quick Edit a post in a subscribed thread, the subscription will be removed once you save your changes with Quick Edit.

Was that descriptive enough, Straylight?
