Epic Duels

Postby Aleolus » Wed Apr 16, 2008 11:53 am

OK, here's a question. What do you think was the most epic duel ever recorded to cinema? Most people I've asked have said the duel in the Princess Bride between Inigo Montoia and Dread Pirate Roberts. Do you all agree?

Also, if you pick "Other," please post what duel you feel is the best, so we know!

"Who are you?"
"If I knew that, I wouldn't be suffering." - Hakuro, Utawarerumono

"Dirty thoughts are bad!" Mahoro, Mahoromatic

agree'd and also Anikin ( gah brain is mush) and obi-wan in revenge of the sith. I guess those would go under other. But my real best epic duel is sorta unconventional as a "duel" perse i go with Frodo and the powers of the one ring because there are epic (ie. Luke and Vader) then there are epic struggles that surpass all others are EPIC and take 3 movies to tell and really have a lasting effect so in other words i pick other.

I voted Inigo vs. the "Man in Black," not because I believe it to be the best duel in cinema history, but because it was my favorite on that list. XD I actually like Inigo vs. the Six-Fingered Man just as well.

Other favorites include Edmond Dantes vs. Count Mondego (The Count of Monte Cristo, 2002) and more recently, Hamlet vs. Laertes (Hamlet, 1996). I also enjoyed Jack Sparrow vs. Will in the first Pirates movie, partly because it was reminiscent of The Princess Bride. I know there are a dozen others that I'm blanking out on right now, but for now, those are my favorites. XD

Also, I'm assuming this is swashbuckling duels. I've only seen two of the four movies listed in the poll, so if those aren't all swashbucklers, then I may have more to add later. XD

Undertaker Vs Mankind was a wrestling matches, which to this day has been most famous professional wrestling matches in history.

I'm going to vote for other and I give my pick later.

I think Luke Skywalker Vs Darth Vader fight in RoTJ was good, but not the best.

One thing that you can give the newer Star War movies its due, are the fights in it.

There's not one Errol Flynn movie here...
May the Lord bless you and keep you.
May He cause His face to shine upon you.
May He lift up His countenance and grant you peace.

Maokun: Ninjas or Pirates? (Vikings are not a valid answer, sorry)

EricTheFred: Vikings are always a valid answer.

Actually I take back my previous post. The most epic duel is:

XTC vs. Adam Ant
Content versus form
Fighting for their place in rock and roll
There is no right or wrong

Just when you think it's finished
With XTC on top
Ant music, like a phoenix
Flies back up the charts

XTC versus Adam Ant
Only one will survive
Beatle-based pop versus new romantic
History will decide

XTC versus Adam Ant
I can't tell you why
Even the singer from Bow Wow Wow
Can't make up her mind

XTC versus Adam Ant
Time is marching on
XTC versus Adam Ant
There is no right or wrong

Then, of course, you MUST consider...
The Ultimate Showdown of Ultimate Destiny

Nah, it was the fight between Avatar and Blackwolf in Ralph Bakshi's Wizards.

As I said in my other post, I voted other.

The final battle between Shack (Ernest Borgnine) vs A-No.1 (Lee Marvin),, A-No.1 (Lee Marvin) in the movie Emperor of the North Pole.

The Duel of the Fates. Obi-Wan vs. Darth Maul, from Star Wars Episode I. That is the definition of epic Jedi duel, if you ask me.
You can find out things about the past that you never knew. And from what you've learned, you may see some things differently in the present. You're the one that changes. Not the past.

Saruman The White Vs. Gandalf The Grey!!!

It Was Amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And You Know It! O____o

EDIT:
OK, lol Reason why I picked that one, cause I found it totally awesome. I do wish it went longer, but that would ruin the DRAMA!

Anyways, yea that got my vote.

Oh no, you did NOT just go there. =P

And the most epic duel ever is obviously Yugi VS Kaiba II, in YGOTAS ep 14.
"Hey everybody, look at me! I'm Seto Kaiba! I have a dragon fetish, and I sound like Brock from Pokemon! Screw the rules, I'm in love with Nurse Joy!"
"What would Grandpa say?" "Yuuuugi... Kill that ***********!"
"Yugi, no! You can't take this risk! He might survive!"
"I knew my emo strategy would pay off."
"I lost a card game! I no longer have a reason to live!"
