While I do think that it would be nice for school to be able to teach multiple theories of origin, I don't think it's possible for them to do so without bias towards one or the other.

Secondly, teaching anything regarding the origin of life is going to be tricky. One of the supposed ideals the US was built upon is keeping the government from supporting any one religion (read: worldview) but it simply is impossible to do this if you intend on teaching just about anything. It's a difficult situation.

I don't know if intelligent design should replace Darwinism in the classroom, or even if it should be investigated seriously in high schools, but the alternatives should definitely get a mention at the very least. Some issues we learn in school do get both sides of the picture, but evolution is notably not one of them. I lost a lot of faith back in my 9th grade bio class too, and my college profs definitely made some lame quips about theists. I'm definitely interested in this movie.

I do hope that it takes a purely scientific view and avoids the Judeo-Christian-Islamo take; when most people see this as a debate between Abrahamic monotheists and scientists, they assume that the anti-evolution side is held only by religious notes, and it feels discrediting. Non-monotheists should also be able to see the other side and have reason to believe it aside from religion.

My own personal take on this issue is that Intelligent Design does not belong in the science classroom - it belongs in the philosophy classroom instead. At its basic core, what the Intelligent Design people are attempting to do is to extrapolate evidence from science for the existence of some kind of designer of the cosmos that is not subject to matter, energy, and natural laws. In other words, they are dealing in the philosophical field of metaphysics rather than the natural sciences. It is unfortunate that many scientists all too quickly jump the gun from methodological naturalism in their inquiries into the workings of nature to philosophical naturalism, in which the workings of nature are all that exists. To make matters worse, we have been conditioned to turn to scientists to ask them the great questions of philosophy. The truth of the matter is that many great scientists are not-so great philsophers. Even so, Intelligent Design remains an exercise in metaphysical reasoning and should represent itself as such. In this framework, I concieve of Intelligent Design having a similar relationship to the sciences as do current metaphysical inquiries in the philosophy of mind. This would also make it less likely that schools and universities would feel their reputations were threatened by teachers who voiced approval for Intelligent Design.

That (and, basically everything GhostontheNet has said) is what bugs me. Rather than pull the Intelligent Design card, I think it would be far more credible and far more effective to just discuss the many problems with the Darwinian Theory-- without having throwing out a countertheory. There are minority scientists out there who are not religious but still are not sold on evolution; they get trouble for it too, but they don't like to take sides because the evo-skeptic side because of its association with religion.

I wouldn't agree with even that. Philosophy shouldn't simply be a dumping ground for bad ideas and half-baked foolishness, there should be at least some measure of intellectual discipline (which is something wholly absent from ID)

Here I thought the goal of this movie was to bring attention to the people who were getting punished for questioning darwinism...not necessarily trying to get it taught in schools. Just the freedom to ask about something else. But maybe I'm wrong.

XD no I don't think that only liberal people are intelligent...but I mean... a lot of intelligent people ARE Liberal and think that they are above the idea of believing in God.

So many of my professors are athiests....and it's pretty common in a lot of colleges...
