Rules/Guidelines

Postby Ashley » Fri Jun 06, 2003 8:46 pm

Hey everyone, just some quick guidelines for this new board. Oh, and if we find a story violates them, we will take it down immediately and then come talk to you privately about it. But, I trust you guys, so we shouldn't have any problems. If after reading these you still feel you have something questionable, I'd encourage you to pray about it and come talk to me about it.

Posting:
You can either post your story as an attachment or copy-and-paste; whatever works. If you want to add a short summary (and maybe a warning for language, violence, etc.) or where people can reach you if you want to hear commentary seperately, that's cool too. If a mod/admin finds that your story needed some sort of warning, then we'll edit your post and put one in.

Anime-based stuff (fanfics, etc.):
1. Absolutely NO hentai whatsoever.
2. As this is a Christian site, there will be NO fics dealing with homosexuality; this means absolutely none of Utena, etc. Shows like Sailor Moon (where it's hinted at but not really said), we'd prefer if you didn't write about, but it is ok. Just please don't even hint at it. If you want to write that two characters are just friends-and only friends-that's ok. If you're unsure about something PLEASE just ask one of us to read over it; I promise we won't bite your head off.
3. This is a PG-rated site, so please watch the language and the violence. Now, the writer in me COMPLETELY understands if you're character's really worldly or angry, sometimes "fiddlesticks" just won't cut it. But please remember we do have a lot of younger members here, so try to tone it down as much as possible, or at least make some sort of warning about it. Again, if you're unsure, just ask any of us and we'll be happy to help out.

Non-anime:
Basically same as above. No homosexuality, watch the language and violence, and generally just remember who and how old your audience may be.

Poetry:
If you intend to post multiple poems, please place them all within one primary thread. Not only will this keep the board cleaner, it will allow readers to follow your poetry more easily.

Critquing
Of course comments are allowed to be made. Keep it constructive, and remember that it takes a lot out of you to write, and many of these stories have the author's heart and soul in them, so to speak.

Hey, I want to ask a question: can we make requests to beta fanfic through CAA (via the PM system or threads here) even if it isn't publicly posted for some reason?

Yeah... I assumed everyone was at least 15 here, but found out the other day I was wrong... But, the only story I'm really working on (other than my TV show project) is going to be submitted for publishing, so I don't feel like letting anyone who wanders in here to read it... Plus, it gets a bit too violent for what it looks like you'll allow. Of course, I didn't know that any questionable language in a story was allowed to be posted here. I'm glad that there is some freedom in that matter, so if I do write something that I don't plan on having published (a shorter story, and I've got plenty of those on the backburner), I may put it here... As for haiku, I've got like 30 allready and none with any questionable stuff in it, but they're not PURE haiku in that they aren't based on nature, but they are based on my feelings instead...

Trying to fit in

In case anyone wants a shortcut for haiku, you can make the last line "Or something like that" hehe... Learned that from Urusei Yatsura!

What's 'Hentai'?
--To Write Love on Her Arms

"That time and absence proves - Rather helps than hurts to love."

"Feelings, emotions, they are good, but they cannot be Love's foundation. When of Love, these things last. When of romance, these things end."

"Love has nothing to do with what you are expecting to get, it's what you are expected to give -- which is everything."

Hentai refers to pornographic anime, more or less.

Erm. . .ZiP, "What's hentai?" is a question you do not ask on any anime board or chat, because it is often seen as an attempt to get someone to post some for you.

If you seriously want to know what it is and you're not trolling for "free samples," PM a mod or something. -.-

I know Im new here (tell me if im writing to many posts at one time... I think ive written five in the past two hours) but i want to write something for the halloween season. Personally i feel the pull toward writing as a career and I want to start on something like this.

Also youll right about not asking about (Hentai) and I give the advice of never asking what is yaoi. *cringes* There are alot of filth in Japan and we have to focus on that country. Consider it a Dominoe effect.

Hehehe. Most likely a good idea. I promised I would not *write* yaoi again in order to gain God's favor and protection during these fires, that promise seemed to achieve that purpose, so you're safe. . .

Are we allowed to post a link to our story (b/c mine is published on FanFiction.net)?

To answer all questions.

BlueLily: Yes, you may post a link. I've done so myself, as a matter of fact. It still has to follow all site rules, and if it doesn't the link will be clipped.

SageRock: There is no maximum length established by we at CAA. However, one single post cannot be greater than 10,000 characters. I've ran into that one before.... My general strategy is just to divide it so that this doesn't happen, or just post twice in a row if that fails.

Taken straight from dictionary.com:

1.The psychic and emotional energy associated with instinctual biological drives.
2. Sexual desire.
Manifestation of the sexual drive.

For my own curiousity, do you remember what the story was/the context?

How much sensuality can be posted? I.E. how far can two lovers go before it's unacceptable?

Well... that's an interesting question.

Do you mean in a story? I would assume so, as I cannot think of another way this would apply. [Eirewolf! Oldphilosopher! Knock it off!]

My word is not necessarily the site's standard here, but I will give an answer that I feel at least partially reflects the staff's views. This is perhaps a good rule of thumb: don't write anything you wouldn't want to see your parents do. Now if some individual were to be an obnoxious kid who says "ew, gross!" when his parents kiss, we would all ignore him.

Ah, okay. I'm not writing anything that goes way down like that, but some other stories I've read and thought about posting got slightly down that way. I do mean in a story, too.

I am. I just would not presume to speak for all of us on an issue that we haven't discussed as a whole. So while I, as a moderator, have a considerable amount of authority, I cannot set policy. At least, my words aren't policy until the others agree with me (assuming they do).

If these stories you refer to are close to the line, if you were to pm me a link I would tell you both if it is acceptable here and my personal views about it. I'd be happy to do so.

My story is going to be become much more violent and I want to make sure it's ok

Example

in once sence Jet staps a troll in the throat and the part may describe blood and such

Is this ok also about swearing as long as I dont curse in every lines saying every word (the D word will be the strongest word i use and only one in a chapter) Is this also ok?

Put a warning on your story in regard to both. I don't think we'd have too serious of a problem with any cursing, and the blood issue would probably be okay. Just remember, you really won't accomplish anything by being excessively gory...

Hmmmm. What if you are busy with a web-comic of sorts. Does that go under Gallery or Writing? I've been drawing this web-comic and, although it is not in the Manga/anime style, it is still a comic.

Hmmm. There's no sex, violence, nudity in the comic, but there is some blood in one frame that is more or less a narration. It's a man with an axe with his hands covered in blood....not in a gruesome-violent fashion but more of a bad in-joke considering that it's a reference to Dosteyevsky's "Crime and Punishment". In fact, the axe-murder is called 'Ryodon Raskalnikov" in the story which binds it directly with "C&P".

I'm thinking of giving it a PG-13 rating just for that although there is going to be no more bloody, gory violence and just silly cartoon violence.
