I play almost anything. I favor music, rhythm and RPGs of all varieties and non-realism FPS. My second tier of obsession is fighting games and SHMUPS -- particularly of the Touhou variety. The only things I really don't play are sports games, aside from golf sims and racing games (which I also shy away from the realistic ones).

I also have a particular soft-spot for complicated games that are simple in concept but insanely hard to master. Nethack, TomeNet, Dwarf Fortress (all free, and highly recommended -- if you can deal with the interfaces).
Embraced by a gentle breeze, my heart breaks as I think of you.

I enjoy a number of Strategy and Adventure titles for the PC and RPGs for consoles, growing into 2D fighters and and first person shooters. To date, Wii Sports is the only good sports game, and I abhor racing games.

I'm also fond of properly executed platformers (Sonic, Mario, etc.).

RPGs and FPSs. There's only a couple strategy games that I like. Total Annihilation for an example.

Strategy, Puzzle (not like Tetris... more like Zelda Master Quest or Shadow of the Colossus), Adventure, Racing and anything multiplayer.

Most of my time is spent with RPGs because I like storylines. Action and turn-based are both fine. Platformers can also be enjoyable, though I tend only to like ones that are very well-executed (say, a Mario 3) or very difficult (I Wanna be the Guy). I've played a few first person shooters for the story and social interaction, but this is fairly limited. Fighters can also be fun, but I'm not cut out for this type of game at high levels so I favor simpler systems such as Smash Brothers.

I can enjoy most types of games just fine, however, I mostly own turn-based RPGs. My philosophy is that games are too expensive for me to buy something that I might enjoy a whole lot, so I generally only purchase games that I have a very high possibility of liking a whole lot. XD That said, I haven't bought a game since Kingdom Hearts 2, and I don't plan on owning any of the newer generation of consoles in the near future, so I'm fine with my collection of Final Fantasy, Zelda, and Chrono games for now. XD

I love turn base RPG, Strategy, and certain fighting games like King Of Fighters...I've gotten kind of tired of Soul Calibur it's just lost it's appeal to me. Though I hop et he next installment will peak my interest. Though I don't really like sport games I love the Tony Hawk skating series.

I own more RPG than anything else though. Magna Carta, Final Fantasy Series, Kingdom Hearts Series, Tales of Series, Shadow Hearts Series (starting with Koudelka!!), Star Ocean, Zelda, Chrono Trigger, Legend of Dragoon, Phantasy Star, etc! Any new RPG that comes out I usually look into, think about it for a week, and than end up buying if it meets my standards. It's the curse of being a gamer. :D

My top genre would probably be the RPG. I've noticed recently that I've been playing them more for the storylines than the actual gameplay. In fact, I tire of turn-based RPG gameplay easily. That aside, the thing that has me stuck to this genre like glue is one simple fact: I'm a sucker for any good story involving anime characters. :P

My second favorite genre would probably be platformers. Classics 2D versions like Mario and Rayman, and 3D titles like The Legend of Zelda, Majoras Mask in particular all fall into this wonderful world.

Racing comes in at a good 3rd. F-Zero, Mario Kart (both the SNES and GC version for the aforementioned two), Need for Speed, Grand Turismo... Ah, so many titles, so little space.

Fourth is scrolling shooters. I've enjoyed many hours of Galaga, Gradius, ZeroWing, and now Touhou. :)

I'll throw out a 4.5 spot while I'm at it. This goes for First Person Shooters. Half Life, Call of Duty and Portal (Technically not a FPS, but close enough) have made too much of an impact on me to leave unmentioned.

For 5th, Fighting games take the spot. I didn't get into fighting games until recently, but once I tried my hand, I was hooked. Spectacular gameplay giving you the thrill of the fight without the pain the next morning. One of the things I love about 2d fighters (Street Fighter, SNES DBZ) is that each frame of a character's attack was hand drawn, or in Clay Fighters case, crafted 'n captured. Today'd 3D fighters (Tekken, Dead or Alive, PS2 DBZ) still hold solid ground here, but lack the visual attraction that 2D fighters held for me. Even still, they are visually stunning in their own manner.

And as a bonus, I'll mention a genre often overlooked: the Visual Novel. Some people don't think about them often, but this Japanese genre boasting games like Phoenix Wright and Hotel Dusk have made a sturdy niche in our American market. Incidentally, I have a few roms in this genre that I use as aids in my study of Japanese language. :)

I'll go ahead and throw out the fact that I cannot abide sports games. If you're gonna do it, go outside. :|

I love almost any game... FPS, 2D or 3D fighters, RPG, Racing, Platformer... etc. I love sandbox games, but most of them are full of garbage... sadly :(

I used to hate turn based games... but I got more into them over the last two years. I still favor real time though...

I tend to prefer simpler genres such as platformers, puzzle, and rhythm games, myself. However, if I had the time, I might pick up an RPG. I'd enjoy FPS and fighters more if my reflexes weren't so terrible. XD

[color="DeepSkyBlue"]I mostly enjoy RPG's, usually just for the storylines. I mean, it's like reading a good book, but you're playing it instead. It's awesome!

I also play the occasional FPS. Usually only halo or something similar.

I like one fighting series, and that is Smash Bros. of course. It's easy and fun to play with friends and siblings.

The only racing game I enjoy is Mario Kart. Yeah...I even play the old Nintendo 64 version sometimes...

Man, I play nearly anything I can get my hands on, except for Sports Games (and I may start mining THEM if my Achievements addiction goes too far). Right now I'm working through Naruto: Rise of a Ninja and Tombraider Anniversary. I would LIKE to have a good RPG with classical play elements along the lines of the Lunar Series or FFVII - something whose plot I could just sink really comfortably in to and come away feeling happy or intrigued, but there doesn't seem to be much of that these days.

Adventure games, generally. Not so much for the gameplay, but for the plot/humor.

I do enjoy a nice, brainless third-person shooter, though.
