So what can we pry from his cold, dead hands now?

If anyone says "Who's Charlton Heston?" I am going to be really depressed here.

I haven't seen any of those movies except for the last half hour or so of Soylent Green, but I definitely know who Charlton Heston is. Maybe I should watch Planet of the Apes sometime soon.

Wasn't he in Ben-Hur as well?

If you haven't seen Ben-Hur, go to a Blockbuster right now and rent it. It is one of the best movies every made. It also surrounds Christ life and death, although it focuses mainly on Ben-Hur.

I own it...It's at my parents house currently. My great uncle bought it for me for my 13th b-day. The fact that it was two cassettes scared me away from it. I don't think I ever opened it.

Watch Ben-Hur now. You're missing one of the absolute classics.

Oh, yeah where he is rowing as a slave in the bottom of the ship. That was a classic scene. There was regular speed, battle speed, attack speed, and ramming speed. I still remember them all too! Its good stuff y'all, its good stuff.

I thought this NY Times article did a very nice job in summarizing his life and career.

Looking through his life, I realize that Heston seemed to try his best to live his life with dignity and decency, in the studio as well off it. In other words, he was a gentleman. That temperament and willingness to be a gentleman, especially as a Hollywood actor, is really missing with the current Hollywood actors. You just do not see that anymore.

I consider Ben-Hur to be the greatest movie ever made. It held the record of Academy Awards (11) including best picture and best actor for Heston until Titanic and Return of the King broke the record. It fuses so many elements, themes, and genres into one cohesive, marvelous film: action, drama, romance, betrayal, revenge, redemption, and forgiveness. It also features some of the most memorable scenes in all of cinema history including the slave ship battle, and of course, the climatic chariot race, which still has not been surpassed to this day. Some of the musical themes are also particularly memorable. This film was from a time where Biblically-inspired films were not only good, they were the best films of their time, and still are to this day. It also shows great qualities that you do not see in today's films anymore.

VHS? Bah, own the DVD. You will not regret it.

Mike: You know, a lot of people have compared this scene to the climactic chariot scene from Ben-Hur.

Crow: Really?

Mike: Yeah, you know, they usually say something like, "Ben-Hur was really good. This movie totally sucks."

Everything, I imagine. They are cold and dead now.

Rest peacefully, Mr Heston.

*jaw drops* Oh, that's sad. He will be missed. My brothers could quote scenes from the Ten Commandments, they saw it so many times. Who'll be the new NRA president? He was, wasn't he?
