Reported on ANN

ANN wrote:WorldsFinestOnline.com is reporting that a book adaptation of the upcoming Batman: Gotham Knight anthology of six Japanese-animated shorts will be published before the DVD itself is released. Veteran comics writer Louise Simonson is adapting the scripts of the individual episodes into a novel. Berkeley Publishing Group plans to have the book out on April 29, while Warner Home Video expects to have the Gotham Knight DVD shipping in June.

The screenplay for each of the six episodes of Gotham Knight is written by a different author, including Brian Azzarello, Greg Rucka and Josh Olson. Jordan Goldberg created the overall story, and Bruce Timm is directing the entire project. The anime studios Production I.G, Studio 4°C, and Madhouse Studios are producing the actual segments, each of which will be animated in a unique style.

Chronologically, it is set between the events in 2005's Batman Begins and those of its sequel, The Dark Knight, which will go into wide release on July 18. A preview will be included with Warner Video's Justice League: The New Frontier film, scheduled to ship on standard DVD, HD DVD, and Blu-ray Disc on February 26.

However, given that it is anime, there'd better be a bishie somewhere. :brow:

As far as Joker goes... again, it's anime. They'll manage. :P

If they turn the Joker into a bishi, I will eat my keyboard.

And I will not be happy about it. XD

Now I wish they would turn Joker into a bishie, just to see Corrie eat a keyboard and don't forget to eat the space bar too!

But I have faith that they will not do anything like that, since Bruce Timm is directing the entire project.

To be honest about it I would love to see Adam West as part of the dub cast. Some how Batman doesn't really seem the same without West involved some how.

Why Adam West? Adam West only played a cameo appearance in Episode 18 of Batman: TAS. If anything, they need to bring Kevin Conroy back as Batman, that is someone that is not in the dub cast wouldn't be the same.

I think that the dub cast need to just be lifted straight from Batman: The Animated Series.

Animated non-Hamil joker is full of fail.

Not to put a damper on this thing, but I was just thinking about something. If the screenwriters are all Americans, how "anime" is this really going to be?

Art style alone is my uneducated guess. Which is fine by me, really; if they have a great story and writing mixed with great art, what more could I ask for? XD

True, true. I just think it might have been kinda cool to see what Japanese writers would do with Batman.

You have it right. It can have writers be all American, but if the art is done in Japan, then its going to be called anime.

Just like Afro Samurai and Five killers is a joint Japan/American production, its still called anime, since Gonzo did the art work and the production of it.

Now Batman:TAS can't be called anime. Since it just about all of the art work and the production was done here. Its true that two anime companies artist did work on Batman: TAS, but not all the time and it was here and there in the series.

Staff interview for Gotham Knight.

Looks like we're seeing the Batman version of the Animatrix. Multiple episodes, different directors, different art styles, American writing and Japanese animation.

It's a new degree of awesome.

In other words, I wholeheartedly approve. I also second the motion for bishie!Joker.

But it looks like no Joker and that hurts.

But I just want one thing, please oh, please no art styles done by Peter Chung. I couldn't take his character designs and his art in Reign: The Conqueror or Matriculated ep in the Animatrix.

I was hoping that they would have a quick little blip of the Joker at the end of that segment, like they had for Venom in the trailers for Spidey 3, just so fans would go back and rewatch the last few seconds over and over to be sure it was him. XD

Of course, I would be doing the same. >.>

Some news coming from ICv2

http://www.icv2.com/articles/home/12136.html

from ICv2.com wrote:
Warner Bros. has announced a July 8th release for Batman: Gotham Knight, a new anime feature film that hopes to do for The Dark Knight what the Animatrix did for The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions. Batman: Gotham Knight explores events that happened between Batman Begins and The Dark Knight, which opens on July 18th. The creators of the new Batman film commissioned three anime studios, Production I.G., Studio 4C, and Madhouse and five noted anime directors (Shojiro Nishimi, Futoshi Higashide, Hiroshi Morioka, Yasuhiro Aoki and Toshiyuki Kubooka) to create a series of six interrelated Batman adventures based on stories by Josh Olson (A History of Violence), David Goyer (Batman Begins), Alan Burnett (Batman: The Animated Series), Greg Rucka (Whiteout), Jordan Goldberg (producer, The Dark Knight) and Brian Azzarello (100 Bullets).

Batman: Gotham Knight will be released just ten days before Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight debuts in theaters on July 18th. The single-disk version of Batman: Gotham Knight will have an MSRP of $24.98, while the two-disk Special Edition will go for $29.98 and will include lots of extra features that will also be included in the Blu-ray hi-def edition (MSRP $34.99). The single disk edition will include a documentary on Batman villains as well as commentaries from the filmmakers and a preview of the Wonder Woman direct-to-DVD animated feature. The two-disk edition also includes a documentary on the life and works of Batman creator Bob Kane and a selection of director Bruce Timm's favorite episodes from Batman: The Animated Series.

Gotham Knight Images Appear

http://www.animationmagazine.net/article/7986

BTW: the new Justice League: The New Frontier animated movie that was just release on dvd has a 10 minute feature on the making of Gotham Knight and gives info on who the villains are and it looks like the Joker may get left out. So far, the villains that will be in it are Killer Croc, Scarecrow, and Deadshot.
