I heard about this recently, somewhere. Regardless, I loved the first two Toy Story movies, and I have yet to see Pixar make a bad move, so I'm looking forward to it. XD

Meet the Robinsons was not Pixar. It was Disney, and Disney alone. XD To prevent further confusion, the following movies are the only (full length) Disney/Pixar films:

  • Toy Story
  • A Bug's Life
  • Toy Story 2
  • Monsters, Inc.
  • Finding Nemo
  • The Incredibles (thank you Fish! XD]Cars
  • Ratatouille
  • Wall-E (to be released this year)

I don't think I really want this movie to be made. In my experience, sequels are like playing Russian roulette: each go-round, you put another bullet in the revolver. Sooner or later, you're going to bite it. Even if it is Pixar, who I have much faith in, this is how sequels go if you don't plan them out ahead of time.

*falls to her knees, raising hands skyward* NO! WHYYYYYYYYYYYY?????????????

Seriously, sequels=bad. Or, at least, the more sequels, the more likely they are to stink. I give you Star Wars 1-3. :p

that's not always true. most of the time, it is. but not always true. i mean, Toy Story 2 was, in my opinion, better than the first. as was the Bourne Ultimatum.

With the Bourne series, the old (read: good) Star Wars movies, LotR, and I'm assuming the first two Terminator flicks (correct me), the sequels were planned ahead of time, incorporated into a greater collective whole. This, in my opinion, is the only proper way to do sequels.

Well, I can't imagine it being terribly different from a 3D live-action movie. XD I mean, all 3D animation does is give the characters 3 dimensions, rather than two, to make it more "realistic," in a sense. So I think it'd be fine, and it's a good way for Pixar to bring the Toy Story series back before the third installment. XD

It is weird though that they are making it for 2010, 10 years after making the second and 15 years after making the first. I thought the second one was good, but I prefer the first because it was for sheer originality and it gave a good lesson as did the second but the first one beat it to the draw!(Haha, TS pun. If you've seen the movies you know what I mean.) It seems today that animated movies seem to be losing their edge. Im not talking about graphics, but from the plot of the story, themes, and lessons one can learn from it. Pixar has always been better in giving a good story, Dreamworks has been a little low in that area. I admit the Shrek movies have been good, but as they made the sequels to it they became more for the jokes than the story. But Toy Story has been able to keep a good story, maintain it, and expand onto more areas of a toy life. It all comes down to what you do with the money you have to make a movie, you make a great movie that will last in the hearts of everyone for many years to come. Or you can make an entertaining movie for that time with jokes(Mostly pop-culture) that will make many laugh but as the years go by people might look back on them and say "Why did I think this was a good movie?"

So as they make this new Toy Story movie I hope that it does not follow the crowd, instead just stick to its same format( Im not talking about the 3-D that they intend to use. By format I mean stick with its originality that it has used in the past) with new ideas(As in a different plot but with mostly the same characters. I do not mind them adding new characters as long as its apart of the story's progression which would be used as necessary.). Not new format with old ideas.

I do intend to see it.

I'm not worried. I trust both Pixar and John Lasseter in making quality movies, because they love their work. They understand what a story needs, they understand that movies aren't just about the "graphics," and they understand that pop-culture references don't add anything to make a good film. If I trust any company with making a quality sequel, it's definitely Pixar.

I agree with all the posts that say Pixar knows how to make a quality movie, and Dreamworks doesn't. I wouldn't have cared to watch the movie Cars if any other studio had made it. I don't care for cars, or races, or any of that crappy crap. But Pixar has a history of making good movies out of the ideas I dislike the most. XD

I haven't seen Ratatouille, though. *heathen* D:

It is sad though. While I love Toy Story to death, I knew they were working on 3 for a long time now (how many stories have they scrapped for this thing?), and there's always something that comes up.

Slinky dog. T_T While it's true they may just get a new voice actor, something tells me they won't. This isn't a to-dvd movie or an animated series, it's theaterical release. Something just tells me they'll have to explain something happened to his character.

I agree that Pixar has yet to make a poor movie. My least favorites are the ones that were directed by Brad Bird instead of John Lasseter, but even those were very good in comparison to most Disney ones nowadays. But I also agree that sequels generally tend to get worse as they go along. Pixar managed to pull off one sequel, but will they be able to do it again? I think the main reason Toy Story 2 worked was because they focused on a different aspect/issue in the toys' lives (if that's the right word for beings that aren't exactly alive). I mean, the first one was mainly about the jealousy between an old toy and a new one; the second was largely about coming to grips with their child growing up and potentially not playing with them anymore. What will the issue be in Toy Story 3? Will Andy have grown up? Will his sister be older and start playing with them?

But whatever the answer to those questions may be, I'm confident that Lasseter and his crew know what they're doing. They've been more consistent about making great children's movies than any other studio/company that I know of, and they're even the ones who made the dubs of Miyazaki movies (which, in my opinion, are actually better than the original). So, I'm looking forward to Toy Story 3, but I hope they end it at that. I don't think even Toy Story could weather through yet another sequel.
