Even then technically, the more one disk stores, it lessens the need for extra disks and whatnot. I'd say that's also saving on resources too, without having a bonus disk (which some come with on default) unused and all :)

I don't think the extra storage is gonna help cutting off bonus discs or anything. Discs are dirt cheap to make yet an extra disc can boost the cost of the movie/series considerably... they'll keep adding bonus discs if they can get away charging 10 dollars more even though it could have easily fit on one disc.

I have this tv series and the last season is quite short. So they give you 4 bonus discs so they have the same amount of discs as the last seasons. Its all bonus features. Bare bones crap bonus features at that and all 4 discs could have been squeezed into one disc. But this way they can still charge the same price as the other seasons before it....

That's an interesting point. I guess I hadn't considered it quite that way before. It's kinda like the .Hack games for the PS2, I guess. They COULD have fit that on one DL disc (I think the first one was only about 2.7 GB), but I guess they ran it on 3.

Four, actually. That's one of the reasons I didn't buy .hack was because it was just a greedy marketing ploy. If it had been a one disc game, I probably would've gotten it.

FOUR?!? Whoa. I got the first one, and the second one before I figured out what was going on. Then I just gave up.

Now how do we get this back on topic. Hmm...

HEY! I bet they could fit, like, 20 of them on a BLU-RAY disc.

Wherever the Anime industry goes with distributing their material, I go with it.

If it's Blu-Ray, then I'll buy a player. If not, then I'm buying a terabyte hard-drive and move to digital downloading exclusively. I hope.

Until then, I'll be staying with DVD's. They serve all my needs just fine as it is.

I also don't believe we were ever really in a format war. Microsoft and Toshiba didn't push HD-DVD that hard to begin with.

Well, with now we have various Sony and even Funi titles in Blu, other titles in Japan, and more coming. I think the ONLY HD anime they have is like, Afro Samurai that comes in both (unless that's Japan only, which I think it is).

As I said, if there's little they can honestly do to improve it over DVD, I'll be perfectly content for the next 10 years. Hopefully longer.

By the way, I recently downloaded an ep of Utawarerumono in Blu Ray quality (just to see the quality of animation) and I must say, I'm impressed >_> I only ever saw the show in TV capture quality, but the line work and colours were VERY clear! Then again I'd have to compare it to an actual DVD rip to see just how clear that one is, but I'm sure Blu is just all that much sharper, wow!

Why would we do that? Actually, I think your idea is great!

See, I've always hated that I can keep 200 movies in a small black case that takes up hardly any space. I want 200 movies to take up five shelves on my bookcase!

And I've always hated how you can skip to any scene on a DVD at any time. That's terrible! And I hate how you can skip to the beginning of a DVD at any time. I want to spend ten minutes rewinding the tape, dangit!

Not to mention I hate how clear and vivid the picture on a DVD is. I want those weird warps in the picture and that odd static that VHS tapes have! I also want to live in fear of my VCR eating the tape for no reason whatsoever rendering it unwatchable!

Yes, VHS tapes are TRULY better than DVDs.

Nate, that sounds quite a bit like the "Comparison: XP vs Vista - How the upgrade to XP is so much better than Vista!" post I read a few days back. I should dig that one up; CAA users might find it entertaining.

[color="RoyalBlue"]I voted Blue Ray because I think a lot of people will buy a PS3 more than a HD Dvd player by itself. Pretty clever of Sony I must admit. ;)
I would be happy with only VHS tapes and dvds for the next ten years if technology would slow at a least bit. :P
I dunno if you guys remember the disks before the VHS came in? Our family used to have some excellent movies on them that I just can't find on vhs, or dvd these days. :(

Just a bit of an update. On Friday, Wal-Mart indeed announced that it will be carrying Blu-Ray exclusively. Also for those who don't know, Netflix announced it will no longer rent HD-DVD movies.

HD-DVD is now officially dead.

Well, it was nice knowin' ya, HD-DVD.

Um, there was another disc format in the 80s too, called RCA SelectaVision Videodiscs. They look like giant plastic rectangles, but inside is a "video record". The discs were grooved and read by a stylus, so it's not to be confused with Laserdisc, which was like a giant CD.

The war is over.

Toshiba has abandoned HD-DVD. It will no longer develop or market HD-DVD players or recorders according to this article:

Also, Engadget is reporting that both Paramount and Universal are going to publish films in Blu-Ray. They were the last studios to support HD-DVD, but that has changed as well.

Might I suggest that this thread's title be changed to indicate the format war is over?

Also, I think Mr. Kutaragi also had a major influence on the outcome on this format battle in addition to the movie studio support.

I didn't even know there was a Blu-ray vs. HDDVD war lol. I'm so behind in technology, I hardly seem to give a care on whats going on with the new stuff or hardly seem to care about owning it XD.

I'm still gonna stick with DVDs and it'll be that way for me for many years to come I'm afraid.
