College visit...

Postby Danderson » Sun Jan 20, 2008 8:51 pm

On Wednesday, My Dad and I are going to be taking a tour of what is supposedly the Havard of Entertainment Buisness colleges - Full Sail....Which is down in FL....
For someone who wants to go into film this place already looks like the ultimate training ground. But I'm not completly sure if this is where God wants me to go...

...So, I guess I'm asking if you guys would pray that God would make it clear to me if this is the place or not...Also, for the trip to be safe....

Thnx.....:thumb:

I agree with Danderson in prayer for a safe trip for him and his father. And for guidance in choosing schools.

In Jesus Name we pray.
Amen

P.S. We work in media & my father taught a lot media classes, (Filmmaking, Scriptwriting, Voice Over, etc.), over the last 20 years. Feel free to pm any questions to us.

I shall pray for you and your dad. I was looking at Full Sail as a possible school for me to go to too. It looked pretty cool. But yeah...I will pray that you will find it clear where God wants you to go. :thumb:

Hey, just got back from FL....Awesome trip all around, but one that I could tell was definetly stoked by prayer...I think I noticed it the most near the end of our trip, when we trying to get back to the airport in time for our flight...

First we had to drop off the rental car (which we missed the entrance and had to go down half a mile to turn around....My dad hated how the signs kept turnin him around all the time...drove him, and myself, nuts), get bussed to the airport (which took awhile), go through security (never fun...but it was suprisingly short), then get on a shuttle that would take us to our terminal (...:shady:...) all in one hour.....we made it with ten minutes before take off....

Again thanks for praying guys.....

It was interesting....I really wasn't sure what to excpect once I got in, but after a tour and seeing the students walking around, I was oddly enough feeling pretty confortable with my envirment and the ppl that were in that envirment.

Yeah, the students were pretty artsy and independent, but not outrageously or radically so, which was probably why I felt so comfortable....

Just wanted to update u guys....after a lot of research, discussion with the parents, and a councilor at Full sail (along with lots of prayer)....It's looks like I'm going to Full Sail University (yeah, it just got that status last month....pretty neat...).....Exciting stuff....

The hard part now is figuring out when to go: Either Oct. 08 or Jan-Feb 09...There's pros and cons to both, but the differences that are making this decision hard for me is tuition costs, class sizes, housing, and....the holidays....Also, there's preparing to live on my own which might take awhile to prepare for....

I guess what I'm asking is that U guys could pray for me.....that God would show me which time would be the best to go and which class environment I'd work and learn best in.....

Thanks....

Cool to see that you made a decision on what school to go to. What do you plan on studying while at Full Sail?

I'll be praying for you. :)

Ah, I went on a tour of Full Sail with my brother just recently (he was interested in attending, but chose a different option). It's an excellent school, no doubt one of the best in its field, so if that's what you feel is God's calling on your life, I think it's great that you're looking into it! I would definitely be prepared for the intense, intense lifestyle that Full Sail students tend to life, but I'll be praying for your decision!

Welll.....after lookin at the situation financially, it looks like I might not be going to Full Sail.....turns out that if I go, I'll be coming out of it with almost $100,000 in debt (meaning I'd have to pay them back $1,000 per month...FOR 10 YEARS!!!....too much for any type of paycheck u'd get from doin any job in film).......

So, yeah, we've been.....lookin at other options, including Center for Creative Media in TX and Compass Film Academy in MI....both great Christian hands-on experiances.....problem is while, they gives u experiance they only give certificates, not BA degrees......

I know that God wants me to take a risk by going wherever He wants me....the problem is which risk does He want me to take?.....

Not to make this longer, but when I get depressed I procrastinate and waste time.....just lookin at random vids on Utube and such......while not bad, it doesn't help me any.....and it's like I can't stop myself and do what I need to.....I don't know if that makes sense.....

.But I really need prayer right now....prayer that I would finish my senior yr strong....that I would grow and not procrastinate....and to take the hard road......that will be the only way I'm going to truly learn anything and grow in His strength.....thanks guys.....

And if anyone knows anywhere in the US that I might find interesting film learning wise....plz do let me know....

Procrastination is serious trouble to be sure.
I find that despite most advice to the contrary, few people really need a degree from a famous school in their field or prestigious connections to be successful. Does it have to be an art school?

Hope everything works out for you.
Some of my favorite scriptures.

Psalm91
A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee.
Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked.
Because thou hast made the LORD, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation;
There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling.

Hebrews 4-4
1Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it.
2For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it.
3For we which have believed do enter into rest, as he said, As I have sworn in my wrath, if they shall enter into my rest: although the works were finished from the foundation of the world.
4For he spake in a certain place of the seventh day on this wise, And God did rest the seventh day from all his works.

James 4
Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. Grieve, mourn and wail. Change your laughter to mourning and your joy to gloom. Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up.

Revelation 22:14
Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.

I'll pray too. Some schools (like some state schools) have art programs, are accredited, and would be a lot cheaper if you're a state resident and live nearby.

Actually, I'm looking for more of a technical one, becuase that's mainly what I'm seeking and needing to learn......And unfortunetly, my state doesn't have those types of schools....better yet, the closest they have to that is stuff for TV brodcasting.....which is in the opposite direction of where I feel called to go.....
