Just got back from seeing the film.

Obviously, the shakey cam is lame and made me sick. Someone please stop this madness.

Now, what the movie did right:

1. Maintains the sense of "being there".

2. Tells an overdone concept in a new way.

3. The monster is foreign, yet believable.

Pretty good movie, though I will never watch the whole thing ever again. I will, however, view the clips of the monster itself several times.

If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things."

First off. The movie is not for everyone. Anyone who has trouble with motion sickness may want to take a pass... or bring a barf bag. The movie is VERY VERY mobile, in a way that, while sometimes very effective for the film, could really throw someone for a loop.

I personally enjoyed it, quite a bit. They did a great job with storytelling, pacing the story, and making interesting characters in the short time they have to develop before the mayhem begins. The monster is interesting and believably constructed and is one of the most effective giant ANYTHINGS I've seen in a while, as well as looking very unique, and definitely unlike any concept art that was "leaked". The acting brings the characters to you and you feel really intimately involved in the situation. Interestingly enough I also laughed a lot. The dialogue did this for me, and the situations remained within reason for the cast of characters given, allowing for things to remain humorous without being silly.

Ah now that it's been reviled I'm seeing more pics of 1 sketch I found earlier (but at the time there were still like, 5 different sketches/models of what the monster is). Different looking, reminds me of FFX's Sin actually.

Oh and did you hear? They're making a one-shot manga based on this, of what goes on in Japan during the ordeal in America, since it's related (interesting that they tie in Japan with the whole monster thing, oh wait, they did that in the American Godzilla too).

Saw it at a midnight showing.

Entertaining, a cross between "The Blair Witch Project" and an H.P. Lovecraft short story.

Right after seeing it, I didn't think I'd be interested in seeing it again, but that's been wearing off. I might go once more this weekend.

I just saw it, and let me tell you, the entire movie and plot were fantastic, but a word of warning, this isn't for the faint of heart...and of stomach.

The acting was superb! The concept of the monster was breathtaking, and I felt like I was actually there.

There are however...some very disturbing things in this movie...roll over if you have no wanting to see it at all:
people are killed from a giant tentacle on the Manhattan bridge, a hospital scene with some people badly hurt, and some even gorged. A girl literally explodes (very disturbing), a person gets eaten alive by the monster while you watch in his point of view and the last of the main characters die in the end
Again roll over if you have no want to see the movie, otherwise don't. The spoiler will ruin it for you.

I agree with Chephas. It was a great movie just a bit more violent than figured. Freaking Intense though. My heart may very well still be racing XD

The movie was flippin' epic, even though i thought it started out a little slow, it did a very good job at introducing the characters and making them beleivable, also, the special effects were epic. The shaky camera thing bothered me a bit at first, however, I got used to it. However, the ending really ruined the whole movie for me.
In the end, everyone dies, that alone didn't bother me so much, however after they die and the camera quits rolling, that's it. the end. It raised all those questions without explaining a lick of anything, you don't even know where the monster comes from. You can't show something like what happened to that girl(the one that explodes) and not even flippin' explain it! If there is to be a manga based somewhat off it, hopefully that will provide some answers, but the lack thereof really left a sour taste in my mouth.
btw, sorry about the lack of spoiler tags, my computer wasn't wanting to work.

well it is a monster movie XD
I knew everyone was gonna end up dead from the very beginning, at the beginning its a military tape so i kinda figured. I thought it was a good idea for them to not tell us where it came from or what it was. Well because anything they said would come off as a walking talk (well roaring) cliché. Monster movies are never orginal so why ruin the orginalty of this one with the origins of a cliche. Also it helps people to help i t grow a massive cult following and for more people to go see it again saying I wonder if i can watch closly enough to see or hear what it is. Marketing is the main reason

I don't think she exploded. I think she puked up like... everything she had. The creatures seemed spiderlike so I'd say that we could infer than their poison liquifies the victim. Her bleeding wasn't stopping because it wasn't blood - it was her organs.
very good point but
in the same scene the soilders pushed a man on a strecher past the main charecters and his chest cavity was ripped open and it wasn't said whether it was a bit or just the creature. I just think its supposed to be kinda one of those " i don't understand this and its not good" so it was used as pure shock factor to the audience so when ever they see the small beasts they get scared and say to themselfs " run don't get bitten"
Well... today I saw the "leaked" concept drawing of the monster and I have to say, well, I'm kind of disappointed. Cloverfield (which has become the official name of the monster) was kind of cool but just a little too alien for me. This concept retains just the right combo of originality and familiarity. Truth be told, I actually really like it.

I saw this today, and I have to say..."I had a very good day."
I half-spoiled myself on the film by reading the summary that someone posted earlier in this thread, and I have to say, only about 60% of it is true. XD The monster looks pretty cool, and I think it's a good design for the film. I also really enjoyed the whole "behind the camera" aspect, as it made it feel more like a ride than a movie. XD I wondered how they would be able to make a movie just using the "movie camera" aspect, but I thought they pulled it off really well, especially with the Rob/Beth flashbacks in between. The comic relief was well-executed, and the suspense was excellently timed. And even though the camera was shaky, it wasn't that hard to see what was happening for most of the movie. And when the chaotic scenes came, it made the movie feel more realistic. Well done, I thought.

The only thing I didn't like about the movie was the beginning. I found myself waiting for an explosion more than caring about the boy/girl drama happening, though I liked the characters more by the end of the movie. XD

And as far as the end of the movie is concerned, I loved it. Perfectly done. Giving an explanation for the monster defeats the purpose of the movie. It's not about the plot, it's about the experience. Besides, this movie, from the beginning, has been practically shrouded in mystery. I think it's good that they left a little of the "mysterious" factor hanging over it by the end. I still heard people around saying, "That's it?" but really, that was a fine method of ending the movie. Well done, J.J. Abrams.

Actually, she did. Her waist inflated before the blood splattered all over the tent. You saw her and the two military officers and suddenly just the officers and the splatter in the middle. Either way, still gross. :eh:
I almost agree with you Etoh the leaked design is actually quite cool, but i still like the deseign they originally choose because that alien like nature made the nature more towards wondering whats going on where did this thing come from type of feel. I feel that the leaked design would have elimanated some of the mystery by making it pretty obvious that it came from the sea. Oh well just my oppion

Can't wait for the sequel....there was talk of tying in different aspects of the movie from different people that night. I didn't get to stay after the credits to see what happened...wife got motion sickness. But the camera was supposed to be shakey, it's told through the lives of the people that were there. Plus, I'm sure when most of you use a handy-cam you don't have the most steady hand in the world. Plus, I really liked how there wasn't your atypical scientific genius to explain everything that was going on. No one had a clue of the monster was, where it came from or what the parasites were either. Great movie!!

You didn't miss much by not staying until the end of the credits.
Just an audio clip that says "It's still alive, help us!" or something like that.
It was a pretty good movie. The shaky cam thing did make me pretty motion sick though. -.-

Ok, wait, WHAT?! I stayed all the way to the end and got nothing! It just went to the blue screen afterwards and the theater closed!

Yeah, sometimes the cinemas like to shut the movie or theater down WAY before the credits finish. I get so sick of that! I want to stay for the entire thing! Nowaday movies have something at the end! LET IT PLAY FOR PETE'S SAKE!

No, like you know that blue screen you get when everything is done and over with? The one with the little globe on it with nothing ever afterwards? Yeah, I just got that. No fancy ending or anything.
