Firefly and serenity

Postby GrubbTheFragger » Sun Jan 13, 2008 1:40 pm

Who on this site loves Firefly and serenity. I saw the movie first and then started watching the show. I am currently starting the series for my first time so use spoilers tags. Great humour in the show and movie for sure. Best Dialog since Pirates of the carrabean. Everyone should buy the dvds so we can get a 2nd season. So yeah discuss the show and even certain lines you like in the show or movie.

I also saw the movie first. Since then, I've watched the whole series probably three times. XD Excellent stuff.

One of my favorite episodes is Shindig. Ariel is also a really good one.

Love Firefly. Its a funny thing really:

My dad used to watch it when it was on TV, I remember seeing bits of it. Then when Serenity came out I had no idea what it was at first, then I went to see it, with my dad I think, and liked it. So I went and bought the series and loved it too.

The dialog is just awesome, so snappy and well written, and it manages to have an epic scale even though it doesn't indulge in major special effects. It has depth.

I think its awesome. I own the series, and now the movie.

I watched the movie first and didn't understand it much or enjoy it much.
Then I watched the series (which was amazing) and then the movie again (and it was much more enjoyable).
The series has better character development, but the movie was more gritty and epic in it's scope.
I prefer the series, but they're both great.

Ya I saw the movie first too and part of the series when my brother bought it. I like it but I couldn't really get into it much and the movie was ok... Theres nothing particularly wrong with it and it was excellent as far as current TV is concerned but I just couldn't get into it. Not sure what it was... though it was one of the best series in the last few years by a long shot... which pretty much tells you were I stand on current TV series =D

Saw the pilot episode(s). Pretty decent, but I usually don't gravitate towards space science fiction. Still, I should make a point to check it out again.

I love this series. My favorite episodes are "Out of Gas" and "Objects in Space".

I'm glad that the movie was able to get more people to enjoy this series.

I saw the series a year or so ago, and thoroughly enjoyed it. Though to be honest, it's one of the few shows that have made me feel seriously uncomfortable at times.

I thought Serenity was...alright. My expectations were probably too high, but it felt pretty unfulfilling to me.

The thing that burns my cookies about Serenity is the fact that
Wash and Book are DEAD! I guess I can deal with Book dying, but I felt that Wash's death wasn't treated with enough respect. I understand that given the circumstances, they didn't exactly have time to mourn, but still. I found it cheap and unnecessary. ;_; If they ever make more of the series, they should go back and make the stuff between the first season and the movie.
Other than that, I thought the movie was great.

That's generally the complaint about the movie, yeah. Hehe. Man, this is my favorite series pretty much ever. I'm a big freakin' Browncoat. :D

I've seen the movie but not the series. in fact I was very surprised to find out there was one.
I'd like to know how the movie and series fit together, as far as I understand the movie comes after the series. What I don't get is, if this is so, is the first part of the movie when
River and her brother get on the ship showing what happened in the series or did they leave the ship at some point? Does the movie just include parts of the original story (like the beginning) set to its own plot? It obviously comes after the series since certain characters don't make it, but I'm wondering about the beginning.
Yeah, I've been confused about that too. Is that from the initial time Simon rescued her, or did it happen again? They're not really clear about it.

Anyway, the movie does pretty much take place after the series. It's meant to wrap things up since there wasn't a second season.

Serenity is an amazing movie. One of the best we own <3 I saw that one first, then my parents bought the series. So far I've only watched three or so episodes out of them all; but already I think they're just as good as the movie - if not better. Very well done with incredible characters.

XD My favorite line ever is from River: 'Also... I can kill you with my brain'. :'D

First off, in response to people saying they hope there is a second season and to buy it to make one happen, they have said that while more movies are possible, another series is not, the actors and actresses have moved on to other projects.

It is meant to show how Simon rescued her before the series started. Since the movie hinges on her past and what she remembers from what they did to her.

I have seen the series both on Fox when it originally aired there and also on Sci Fi Channel.I have yet to see the movie.
Considering it was created by Joss Whedon of Buffy,The Vampire Slayer and Angel fame it's hard to say why it didn't catch on.

Fox killed it, changed up its time slot, ran it at odd hours...etc.

ShiroiHikari was right. A few episodes (or maybe just one at the end) were based pretty much solely on fanservice, with not nearly enough plot to justify their existence. Nothing graphic, that I can remember, but definitely not something you'd want someone else to walk in on.

War Stories has Inara, uh..."servicing" a female. Nothing too graphic (this was aired on TV, after all), but they do kiss once. That's a really good episode though, so I'd advise just skipping over that scene if possible.

If I recall correctly, "Heart of Gold" took place in a brothel. It seems like there was one more, but I'm thinking it may have been just a quick scene.

Yeah, Heart of Gold is a great episode, but
...there's a love scene with Mal and Nandi. It's not graphic, but if you're really sensitive to that kind of thing, it'll be bothersome. There's also a lot of, uh...innuendo and implied stuff. Great episode, but not for the faint of heart.
I know there's also one brief scene with Wash and Zoe somewhere (might be in Shindig), but nothing is shown. Just implied. Also, it doesn't bother me quite as much since they're married. XD

I picked up Firefly on a whim and I'm glad I did. I love it. My favorite episode is the one featuring Jayne. If you've seen it then you know what I'm talking about, because that whole episode is hilarious. After I saw the series I picked up the movie from Blockbuster. Ehh, to be honest, I didn't like it very much. Especially since...

SERENITY MOVIE SPOILERS
Wash died at the end.
Don't get me wrong it was a decent movie, I just liked the series a lot better. It's a shame that it was canceled.

Yeah, I had the same problem with Serenity as you did. I think everyone did. Otherwise, it was great.

My friend and I were discussing this the other day. With all the animated DVDs coming out lately, it'd be fantastic if they could put a couple together for Firefly!

I saw the movie first as well, though I have only seen a few episodes here and there. But I do like it. Their way of talking is so unique and very creative on the writers' parts. Big :thumb: for Firefly and Serenity!
I think the reason browncoats hate the ending of the movie is because it's essentially throwing in the towel. By killing the soul, if not the heart, of the crew they were admitting that the show was done and over with.
