Major Power Outages and Family...shortages?

Postby Nikolai Melodie » Thu Jan 10, 2008 6:43 pm

For all of those who don't know, I'm currently living alone. That's probably a weird thing to hear from a fifteen year old, but it's true.

In November my "father" [non biological male caretaker] died, leaving me with my mother. That would have been all fine and dandy, had she not been diagnosed with stage four ovarian cancer a month later. It wouldn't have been that bad, had she been employed and had medical insurance to go to the doctor with... anyway...

On december 27th, she had surgery to remove the cancer, but it spread, so it's still pretty bad. I don't see her a lot lately. Between surgeries and recovery time, chemo... she pretty much lives at the hospital..

And now I'm alone, in my house, the week before finals ... and the power goes out.

I've been doubting my faith in christ more and more lately. I don't know why, but I feel myself more and more becoming one of the seeds described in Mark 4:16... the one that takes root, but doesn't sprout. I want to be a follower of christ who is dedicated and devoted forever... not just until the times get tough...

but it's so hard... please pray for me...

This is NOT one of those times when you have to go it alone. This is one of those times it's good to reach out (like to your church, even if you don't like it much) and ask for help.

BTW, if you have gas appliances (like a water heater or furnace) that trip off when the power goes out, you need to get some advice on any special precautions when the power comes back on. Obviously, you need to be careful who you tell that you are living home alone...

PM me if you need to talk (well, write). Praying for you and your mother. Do you have other relatives that can "take you in" (uncles, etc.)?

Sadly, I don't... not in this part of the country.

I'll PM you later, SP, and thanks for the offer. :]

ouch... I know I'm stating the obvious but that sux. I'll be praying for you... If you need a flashlight I could alwayz mail you mine ^^ (actually seriously if you need it I don't mind) and I'd fly your mom to here to Canada so she could get free healthcare if I could... but I can't so wishful thinking won't solve anything.. but here's some memory verses to keep you going:

The Lord is my refuge and strength, an ever present help in trouble - Psalm 46:1

Trust in the Lord with all your heart, don't lean on your own understanding; Day by Day acknowledge him and he will make your path straight - Proverbs 3: 5-6

Even if your path is unclear right now, trust God. He is watching out for you. Oh yeah and don't forget about your Guardian Angel ^^. He says Hi!! (truly) love ya cousin (all related in Christ)

That's tough. Is there anyone in your church that would be willing to "adopt" you for a while so you don't have to stay by yourself? They would be a great support for you --you'd have a safe place to stay and good meals to eat and a loving place to be there for you. I've been living on my own for a while and the adults in my church that have "adopted" me have been an amazing support structure for me.
Just be careful being alone. Use caution. Use discretion when telling people you are alone. Be sure to lock your doors. I know I sound like a mother, but I want to make sure you have a safe place to be.
I'll be praying for you and your mother. Feel free to PM me anytime.

In Christ,

Sheenar
"Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal." 2 Corinthians 4:16-18

*hugs* I'll be praying for you.

I heard an interesting story this morning about something, and it's related to what you were saying, so I'm praying especially for that. I don't know if I can explain it right now, but at the moment, I would second (or third, I can't remember) finding people at your church who can help you during this time.

Yeah, that's definitely a good idea right now. I mean, it's just the sort of thing God put the church here for (both in terms of spiritual aid and just helping meet your immediate physical needs)
