Yawara - Haven't completed yet, but from what I've seen, it looks like a sports anime involving Judo. The animation style leads one to believe that it was created around the same time as Ranma 1/2. It's nicely done, but a little too grainy for my tastes.
KhakiBlueSocks wrote:I was watching this months "Newtype USA" DVD and I was thinking--why don't we have a thread where we talk about and review the three (or two) episodes that come on the disk? Here's my thoughts on this months trio of episodes. Now keep in mind, this is just my opinion.
Nate wrote:You didn't answer mitsuki lover's question, Bradley! Is THIS MONTH'S episode of Newtype the most recent issue? I mean, what if Josh is reading the Newtype from three months in the future?
Maokun: Ninjas or Pirates? (Vikings are not a valid answer, sorry)
EricTheFred: Vikings are always a valid answer.

For all we know it could be from April 1966!

What more did you want, blood samples?

I checked out Circuit City the other day, and it is a graveyard. They really don't sell any anime whatsoever, its really sad. And even everything else looked really bad, their floors were old and there was hardly anybody in there. CC has really gone down hill, at least in my city.

Blitzkrieg1701 (post: 1190262) wrote:Project Blue Earth SOS: And now, the flip side. I REALLY wanted to like this one more than I did. I mean, come on! It's retro sci-fi! That's got me written all over it, right? Unfortunately, the show just isn't clicking for me. I think my biggest beef is that it's not committing to the retro aspect strongly enough. It obviously wants to be an anime version of an old Flash Gordon serial, but only the technology design manages to capture that old school feel (and even only gets it right most of the time). Everything else - writing, direction, even the music - sticks way too close to familiar anime formulas for the 40s vibe to actually work. I don't like the bland character designs either, especially when they're surrounded by so much CG. Well, at least the CG spaceships are done pretty well (though I don't care for the photoshop effect light tricks) Nice try, but no cigar.
Ninja Nonsense: Man, of all the anime Otaku USA has shown so far, why is THIS the one they decided to bring back for a second episode? A very noisy, depth-less "comedy" that's really not terribly funny. Yeish.

I don't think this anime is really ment to be taken too seriously. It's the kind of anime you can watch only if you just wanna laugh without thinking. Most of the humor is pretty potty based.

The only thing is, it will only be sold in box set form and it will not be release untill June.

KhakiBlueSocks (post: 1200821) wrote:Yeah. Like I said, I really didn't miss an english dub track becuase the story is so good, and the animation is just so dang beautiful, you kinda forget about it. Also, if anyone out there is like me, I turn the English track on and turn the subtitles on as well. I'm just weird like that.
Roy Mustang (post: 1200841) wrote:The only thing is, it would be nice to have an English voice cast, since the anime is set in England.
