A question that has been bugging me (about Pokemon)

Postby ~darkelfgirl~ » Fri Dec 21, 2007 4:11 pm

This question has been on my mind for a long, long time--Are the humans in Pokemon vegetarian? I mean, I don't see people eating Magic carp (sp) at Red Lobster and slapping tauros (sp) steaks on the grill or anything.

What do they eat exactly? (Boy, am I glad I'm finally getting this question off mind).

I'm sure there are animals in the pokemon world that aren't pokemon, oddly enough I don't think they ever show them.

So maybe they do eat Magikarp and Tauros?

They eat human souls. Or Magikarp filets.

I think I saw actual fish once....

How can they eat them if they make friends with them and stuff? Wouldn't those Legendary Pokemon punish the people who decided to hunt and eat Pokemon (I mean, it's violence against Pokemon)?

XD Eat human souls? This is what little kids are watching!

I heard that the Pokemon Farfetch'd was rare because people would catch it and cook it with leeks.

Yeh, but you don't actually see them eating the pokemon

no, the food they seem to eat looks like the same food that they eat in japan...sushi and all. so, i'm assuming that they do eat pokemon, just when you see them eating them, they don't look like it. o_o here's a question...can a fish type pokemon die from being out of water?

Yeah, Im pretty sure they do eat pokemon. I mean people here have animals for pets, and then sometimes they use animals for food. Its because the curse of Adam(Im not sure exactly what you call it), because remember Adam and Eve ate fruit and vegetables; but when they sinned they were cursed to live the life of regular humans meaning they had to kill animals for food sometimes.

So yeah, the humans in Pokemon eat pokemon and various fruits and vegies.

I can recall Ash eating a burger in one episode... although, I guess it's possible that it was a veggie burger. But I kinda doubt it. xD; My brother and I cracked a few jokes about what it was actually made out of, heh.

I've also wondered whether or not real animals actually exist in the Pokémon world, since fish WERE shown on one of the St. Anne episodes. (I basically answered my own question there, but what the heck. Maybe it was a mistake on their part or something? xD I haven't noticed any other animals since then...)

There are regular animals in the Pokemon world, the manga shows this in greater detail. Also the bios for a lot of Pokemon state this, for example, Venonat eats small insects as part of its diet.

However, Pokemon are indeed used for food. As K.Ayato already stated, Farfetch'd was nearly driven to extinction because of being hunted for food. Also in G/S/C you can visit a farm with Miltanks, which are being milked. There are probably other Pokemon mostly raised for food, but the games/series don't go into much more detail about it.

Thats a funny question, because awhile back in the Pokemon websites fanmail, one asked if they eat Pokemon in the show. The reply said the didn't, but it wasn't explained what it was they ate.

Sounds suspicious if you ask me....

Of course they eat pokemon! Doesn't anyone remember the delicious Yadon tail from G/S/C? Everyone also tried to eat Kojirou's Koiking when they got stranded on the raft.

People apparently eat pokemon, it's just never mentioned in great detail. Then again though, why would it need to be?

I have ALWAYS wondered IF there were other animals in the pokemon world.. and I have always wondered if they were eaten.. XD

GOSH...I am glad that I am not the only one who pondered this.

I wonder if eating a fire type would give someone heartburn?

Even if they were vegetarians though... the Plant type pokemon wouldn't be safe! O_O

aww I want an oddish salad now =_=

XD You guys are funny

To C.K.: I'm glad I'm not the only one!

But, if the Legendary Pokemon don't condone violence against pokemon, wouldn't they punish the people for eating them?
*shrugs* I guess they do eat pokemon. But why don't we actually see this happening is what I want to know.

I mean, think about it. They're fish, but when captured they're in a pokeball...what does that pokeball contain? water? or is it some sort of like sleep chamber? o_o me thinks we'll never know.

I don't remember the story every mentioning anything like that. Everything I read talked about eating it.

Not to mention, is sucking on the tail any better? If they're willing to do that, I think it's safe to say they'll eat pokemon.

I bet Legendary Pokemon are a delicacy...:P

And Nate...so is that certain species of fish that the Japanese eat...(I wanna say, puffer fish, but I am not sure) its not poisonous if they prepare it right >:3

but they are a little too cut efor me to eat.

why are the base level plant types so cute? It makes them REALLY hard to eat. *pouts*

Momo-P wrote:I don't remember the story every mentioning anything like that. Everything I read talked about eating it.

It's been a long time since I've played G/S/C, but I think it comes from a combination of what NPCs in the game said, and the Pokedex entry. *heads to Serebii.net real quick*

"A sweet sap leaks from its tails tip. Although not nutritious, the tail is pleasant to chew right."

"An attached Shellder won't let go because of the tasty flavor that oozes out of its tail."

First entry from Slowpoke in Silver, second from Slowbro in Crystal. XD So the entry really says "to chew," which really doesn't say much, but I'd say it's more like chewing gum than food, otherwise it would probably have said "to eat."
Not to mention, is sucking on the tail any better? If they're willing to do that, I think it's safe to say they'll eat pokemon.

Well, while I've already stated that they do eat Pokemon, I think the interesting thing is that in G/S/C, the sale of Slowpoke tails was considered horrible and cruel. I'm guessing it has more to do with the fact that first, the Slowpoke being used were pets and friends of the people in the nearby town. Also I guess second is the fact that Slowpoke use their tail to catch food, and so cutting off their tails prevented them from eating.

ALTHOUGH, and I may be wrong, I think one of the Team Rocket guys you fight in the Slowpoke well says "The tails grow back after a few days, so that makes it okay!" Though this may have been something added to the English version to lessen the violence level to the kiddies. Kind of like how in the original DBZ dub, Tien said he could grow his arms back, something that wasn't in the Japanese version.
so is that certain species of fish that the Japanese eat...(I wanna say, puffer fish, but I am not sure) its not poisonous if they prepare it right >:3

It's puffer fish, you're right on that. However, the difference is, pufferfish are mostly harmless, they only have one little venom sac in them. Oddish are based on the mandrake plant, and every part of a mandrake plant is poisonous...so it stands to reason that there is no part of an Oddish that's safe to eat. :p

Um.. Pokeballs contain dance clubs and all night partying. That's why everytime they're taken out of this party they want to fight. i LEARNED THIS ALL FROM rOBOT Chicken. Which is incredibly reliable.

Inside, the pokeball features many of what appear to be mirror panels. The inside of a pokeball is supposedly designed to make the Pokemon feel as comfortable as possible while inside it. While never fully explained in the anime, manga, or core video games, Super Smash Bros. Melee states that this is done by creating a holographic environment that suits the Pokemon. However, the anime has shown examples of Pokemon that do not like being in their pokeballs; a notable example is Ash's Pikachu.

Also remember Pokemon are seemingly converted into energy when they are captured, hence why enormous Pokemon such as Snorlax and Steelix are able to be kept in there, and why their weight (over 1,000 kg) doesn't make the ball any heavier.
