Overman King Gainer

Could it be? A Mecha anime that doesn't have a line of toys it's trying to push? :wow!:

They're selling the DVDs for $3 apiece where I'm getting them, and I'm thinking about collecting it. Has anyone here seen it, and if so, what are your impressions?

$3 DVDS?! WHERE?!

Honestly, I'm not a huge fan of giant robot, but I did enjoy Overman King Gainer. Granted, I only watched the first disc two years ago and I can't remember much about it, but it's a little (a LITTLE) fresher than some other similar anime. If you're getting them for $3, I honestly feel like it doesn't matter what the plot is about, but even still.

The characters and the character designs are pretty nice, and I love the quirky design for King Gainer. I thought the idea of getting a game nerd to pilot giant robots was pretty interesting, even if it's not the most original thing in the world. It's also nice that though the series is fairly serious, it doesn't take itself too seriously.

The only thing I really, really remember is the opening sequence. Really, it's impossible to go wrong with giant robots doing the monkey. http://youtube.com/watch?v=97j86qH91Nk I have never seen a more entertaining opening sequence, ever.

My local BigLots gets in bulk shipments of Anime DVDs which they sell real cheap. Cowboy Bebop, Case closed, Outlaw Star... But I only get to go there when my parents do. ]Honestly, I'm not a huge fan of giant robot, but I did enjoy Overman King Gainer. :D My favorite opening scene EVER! (second only to Lucky Star, of course...)

Well, it's one of Yoshiyuki Tomino's most recent series. The reviews I saw seemed to be generally positive.

But, man, is that opening rather...trippy.

I like the opening song, but I haven't seen the series yet. However, my fiance rather likes it. :]

Got the 2nd DVD for a B-Day present. It seems to hold up quite well, and has slowed down considerably (which is a good thing, because it moved WAY too fast in the 1st few eps.).

Although, it does seem to be a bit... Fanservice-y. :eyeroll:

Regardless, I like it. Are there any others yet?

Heard it was a very solid show and that Tomino does an excellent job with this versus a number of his other works. So, if you're into mecha or Gundam for that matter check it out. Heck, for $3 a disc just buy it.
