Hmmm, I've been contemplating picking up Baccano! I saw the first ep a long time ago and was a bit confused, then I saw the second ep yesterday... Onosaka Masaya's performance as Isaac is so awesome it almost made me quiver. He's hysterical!

How would you rate it, on a 10 scale?

Hmm, I was watching Nodame Cantabile on a burned DVD, but my MacBook's DVD drive isn't working anymore! I'm totally devastated!

Absolutely a 10. I'm not surprised you found the first episode confusing]highly recommend it, as long as you aren't too opposed to violence/gore. Because it IS gory, more so than the loss of head or fingers that you see in the first episode. XD Violence and gore aside, it's an incredibly fun series, and I really hope you continue watching it. :D

Also, yes. Isaac and Miria are "AMAZING." XD

Heh. I... don't do that well with gore. At all. It's scary. The first episode was already a bit much for me.

HOWEVER! Since I enjoyed episode 2 (and the opening sequence XD) so much and since you gave such a positive review, I think I will give it a chance and close my eyes during the scary parts!

as Radical Dreamer said, the series is quite gory and bloody, more so in the latter half of the series. i suggest to continue through the series until you reach a point that you really can't handle (IF you ever do reach a point that you can't handle).
speaking of Baccano!, i just finished episode 12 subbed, courtesy of Radical Dreamer.

Ah, okay. XD Well, let me give you a heads up then:
Episode 4 -- A character punches another in the face over and over and over again, and it's pretty bloody.

Episode 9 -- A character holds another character's face/arm down to train tracks while the train is moving

Episode 11 -- A character strangles another character until his neck breaks, a character bites off another character's fingers. A character also holds another character's hand down to the train tracks while the train is moving.

Episode 12 -- A character's eyes are poked with a burning rod, though nothing is shown. Also, we see how the character in episode 1 lost most of his arm.
I THINK that's everything, though I'm certain I've forgotten something. xD There are other instances of people getting shot, etc., but this is the worst stuff that you should watch out for. Other than that, I hope you enjoy it if you choose to continue!

Baccano! episode 12
Cowboy Bebop episodes 20-24
Jyuushin Enbu "Hero Tales" episode 4
Kaiji episode 7
Slayers Next episode 17-20

As for violence in Baccano!
A good majority of the cast revolves around the American mafia, so violence is pretty much a given, including but not limited to gunshots, knives, beheadings, beatings, brief torture, being ground against rail road tracks at high velocity, and "Alchemic cannibalism," which I'll leave to your imagination. Not to mention Four characters in particular who are fond of enacting the above and other methods of physical violence.
