New anime distributor

Postby Roy Mustang » Thu Oct 25, 2007 3:56 pm

This was report on an anime e-mail group today.

California based New Galaxy Anime has formally announced its entry into
America's anime distribution business. New Galaxy Anime will specialize
in licensing family-friendly titles, especially family friendly shoujo
titles, and vintage anime with high nostalgic value. New Galaxy will
reportedly "avoid altering original dialogue or editing scenes out in
their U.S. releases."

New Galaxy's first announced title, the 1981 Fantastic Adventures of
Unico movie, will be released on bilingual North American DVD with a
retail price of $24.95. An exact release date for the movie has not
been determined.

Whoa, this sounds pretty cool actually. Mostly the "vintage" part. I'd like to see them release some old mecha series or something.

I think so too. I hope they license that soap opera called "Oh! Family!" that was released in Italy.

Hey, if this is who I think it is, then I might actually know a guy working with this new company...

Not sure if it's the same guy or not as it seemed they were still trying to pin down a title for distribution.

However, I'm looking forward to some of the titles New Galaxy Anime will be putting out. Sounds like my kind of company.

FYI, are you aware of the ImaginAsian subtitle-only release of the classic mecha anime "Orguss"?

Yeah, a mistake on my part. Oh well, hope they get their ducks in a row soon.

Anyway, I'm all about vintage anime, so I look forward to seeing more from these guys!!!

There seems to be a lot of anime from the 60's-'80s just waiting to be watched.

I wonder if they'll take up Zorro, or rerelease Bell of Chirin on DVD.

They seem to make the mistake that only young girls watch shoujo when a lot of people do.

Well, if they treat their properties right, it's usually good to see a new distributor I guess. Although I have doubts that I will be that interested in most of the titles that they license.

But did their website have to be that pink?

Seriously.

Hopefully, the titles that they license will be good for shojo fans. I personally think that they could license Versailles.

Personally I hope they licence that 52-episode anime adaptation of Les Misérables which is currently running in Japan. That's probably the only way it'll make it to the West.

Well, you start by appealing to your core market, then you build out. That's probably the thinking here.

Probably, but it could also alienate other fans.

It be nice if they got the rights to some of the earlier Magic Girl shows.
