(sorry for getting off topic agaaaaaaaainnnnnnnn)

Blood+ is a bit confusing...but I guess it takes watching like a hawk to understand (watched most of the episodes closely instead of week by week ^^; )

I must say though epi 32 is a scary one. :/ that's the only episode I think drags down the entire series.

BACK on topic! (SORRY! I guess any further discussion about Blood+ should be through pm or a new thread, aye? Since this is about Death Note. ^^; sorry, mods.)

I wonder how this show will do for the Action ratings? Do you guys think it will be more successful than Bleach? Was that show even successful?

Lol okay ML, you enjoy your crappy Inuyasha while we go enjoy this very thematic and well done (albeit a tad bit overrated) piece of entertainment. I don't necessarily like the opener either, (As an opener. As a song it's okay with me) but it doesn't detract from the show at all.

Seriously. I finished Death Note in it's entirety, and although it's quite loquacious at times, it's masterfully put together and very intelligent. You say there are plot holes, but I beg to differ. Of all the anime and manga I've come across, this is one of the few titles that does everything possible to avoid plot holes. (Hence why it's intelligent) You also fail to realize that Light is purposefully portrayed as an an egotistical megalomaniac so the plot can actually develop. (Unlike shows like Inuyasha that lack an interesting plot. I got bored of Inuyasha way faster than I got bored of Naruto)

But knowing you, I'm sure something like Inuyasha would be better off for you.

I just watched the first 2 episodes ...I must say it's...um...interesting...

I'll definitely watch some more of it ...it'd be interesting to see how Light's character develops...
"Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal." 2 Corinthians 4:16-18

Radical Dreamer wrote:Light: Yes, he IS the villain. What you probably have yet to realize is that in Death Note, the antagonist is the main character. The protagonist has yet to be introduced. This is a theme not unlike that of Shakespeare's Macbeth, so think twice before you start bashing it so ruthlessly.

Yeah your right about that. The show does mind me of Macbeth(And we just finished reading Macbeth just so you know.). At the start of Macbeth he seemed like the protagonist, but as the story went along he progresively became more evil until the point where he killed people without a good reason. But Light seems to become the antagonist very quickly. I mean you do see him having a humdrum, mundane life to which we can all relate to, but then his whole life changes (well progressively changes.) He says he's doing it(Killing people) just because he want to make the world a better place. I don't know anything past that, but if this mindset changes to worse than that then he would have become like Macbeth(Which is to kill people for no good reason this was of course at the last or close to the last stage of the story when he sends murderers to kill not just Macduff, but also Macduff's family as well just because they were affiliated with him). But I don't know that he does become more evil, so I'll just be quiet for now. Im just giving my two cents.

Music:
Opening Theme:This was rather a bit of unmemorable J-Pop.Not as good as the jazzy opening to Boogiepop Phantom and definitely not as good as
Tokko's opening theme 'Nothing'.

(As compared to the annoying, bubblegum pop of "Change the World"?)

Background Music:Overstated. The fact is it was at one point too loud.
When Light was in his room I half expected to hear O,Fortuna break out!

(Too loud? Try turning down your TV. My sound was cool.)

Closing Theme:There was one?!

(Yes, there was. And it matched pretty darn well.)

Art:This was probably the best part of the episode.

Characters:
Light:Drama Queen who has the infernal habit of internalizing everything.
Once he realized he was the Villian he should have stopped it.I mean the habit is annoying and I would really have loved to see him get punched in the nose once because he is such an annoying brat!

(See Also: Inuyasha)

Light's Mom:Totally useless to the episode. They could have done the entire episode without her and no-one would have noticed the difference!

Ryu:Why are the Shimgami so durn UGLY?They could use beauty tips from the Hollows on Bleach!

(Well, not all "gods of death" can wear pink kimono's, have long hair, and speak in a high bubbly voice.)

Plot:There was one? This was so full of holes that you could have flown the Enterprise through it.

(Plot holes?! IT'S THE FIRST EPISODE! As first eps go, this one was the most descriptive. It gives you the foundation of the story and gives you enough to carry over to the next episode without spelling out everything.)

Overall rating::thumbsdow:thumbsdow:thumbsdow:thumbsdow
Barf City!
Hopefully the rest of the eps.won't be as insultingly poorly constructed as this one.

(Also, hopefully, it doesn't carry on for over a hundred episodes without getting anywhere.)

ohhhh compact for our convenience? :D
Long shows actually annoy me. ^^; I think 50 episodes or 26 episodes is a decent amount.
but 165 episodes where the majority of them are filler....drives me insane.

Okay, people, we should probably obliterate the going back and forth between bashing Inuyasha and bashing Death Note. It's not very nice. :(

Back on topic: I think 36 episodes is a pretty good amount, although I'm hoping they don't cut the series off at a premature stage.

Since viz got the rights to dub the series...I wonder if they will get rights to the very short 15 minute movie? It's the whole series from Ryuk's side. At least that's what the description was. ^_^ I watched it on www.deathnote.tv (special director's cut) but since there were no subtitles, I could barely understand it. heh heh. Also, this is like the final episode since it includes everything from prior episodes (characters and situations).

I just want to know what these plot holes were. I love how he claims there were huge plot holes but doesn't give an example of any of them.

I'm going to ask that the Inuyasha-themed discussion stop. Please, this is a Death Note thread. However, if mitsuki lover wants to name specific plot holes there can be discussion of those.

Unless I'm quite mistaken, the anime finishes the manga's plot, bringing it to a definite end.

Death Note is 37 episodes long. The anime does end when the manga does. They don't cut much out, but the ending is slightly altered (but it's still good). The series as a whole does not have plotholes, just keep watching, because in the end it all makes sense.

There are two live-action movies out, which are pretty good. The first one follows the plot until the character Misa is introduced (Dub watchers, you'll meet her later. Then want to shoot her. Then shoot her again. Etc.). The second movie strays from the anime/manga script, but is very good nontheless. These movies are subs only right now and I doubt ViZ has the rights to them as of current.

There is one Death Note special (it was aforementioned as a short 15 munite movie). Actually, this is a 2 hour, 10 minute special (advertised as a 3 hour special due to commercials...), showing everything in the series (at least through L) from Ryuk's standpoint. There's only about 15 minutes of new footage, but the movie in it's entireity is much longer than that.

Additionally, there are three OST's released in Japan (not counting movies), as well as two DS games.

I hope that helps people with their questions, and I hope that helps you all understand the details of the serieses entireity better.

I actually prefer the live action final ending than the one in the series...^_^ because
L outsmarts Rem, the shinigami when it comes to his death. but then again, I am a major L fan so to see him time his death was a nice thing to watch. However, I've only skimmed the endings of the manga and anime, so I don't know if he comes back, but I don't think he does.
ah. ok. that would make more sense than calling 15 min of stuff a movie. ^^,

@bakura_fan: I liked the movie ending also. I'll stick with the show, but...
Remember in the movie, how Light told Ryuk to kill them, but Ryuk kills him? That's how it happens in the manga against Near. And no, L doesn't come back, except as a memory in Light's mind in the last episode.
I believe the first DVD will be available next month. . .but I'm not sure. I think that's what the release date was for the pre order stuff.

Great to hear ^_^ I'm assuming they'll be releasing it with the option of the original japanese audio track? I tend to prefer subs over dubs, even if the dub is good.

And I didn't realize the show was on air already. I just went and watched it on the Adult Swim website. Wow, it's really good! Very cinematic... I actuallly found myself much more emotionally charged than I was in the manga, and just from episode 1. Looks like it's going to be really great!

I have yet to see the live action films, mostly due to lack of time. From what I've heard of the ending, however, I think that it creates a better story arc overall. But that takes us into "part two haters" versus "part two lovers" so we don't need to discuss it.

I don't know if anyone else noticed this, but when Light was writing in the Death Note towards the end, there were sparks shooting from his pen with each stroke. Dramatic effect, or is this just what naturally happens?
