Some bands that I love...

Postby HiddenWoodchuck » Sun Oct 07, 2007 2:44 pm

I thought I would list some music I find to be awesome... I won't list the bands that are more well known like Flyleaf, Haste the Day, Becoming the Archetype, Disciple, Jars of Clay, The Fray, As I Lay Dying, Skillet... etc... reason being, I am hoping some of these I list you haven't heard of, and might find some new music to listen to. Not all, but some of these I became friends with through Myspace, which has been great for lots of these indie bands and such to gain exposure, the internet sure has changed things... you don't have to be signed to be a success anymore

I looove music... obviously most of it is Christian themed, but I listen to so many different styles... here is an example. I can listen to Becoming the Archetype or Living Sacrifice one moment, but then listen to Casting Crowns or Eisley the next... I don't care if it is Metal, Rock, Pop, CCM, Indie, Techno... whatever lol I don't listen to one style, and I don't think it makes someone cooler to listen to heavier music. I hate that whole "your music is sooo not metal" viewpoint that a lot of people I have known before have. I don't listen to music for just the noise, it has to have a meaning and the artist needs to be serious about it... not just random noises that could be made by banging a bunch of objects together and screaming. This is coming from a person who does like heavy music sometimes hahaha... anyway, here are some bands that I have had the pleasure of meeting/talking to before, be it offline or online, that are just really cool and are all different types of music. I will add more here over time, and maybe you would like to do the same! Add some bands that you have heard and think others should hear! This isn't just my thread, but everyones of course, so please, I would love to find even more bands/singers to hear!

Breaking the Silence
I just found out about this band not long ago, but I really like their music so far. They just released their first CD not long ago!
http://www.myspace.com/breakingthesilenceonline

Another awesome Metal band out of Sweden! Sweet sound and awesome lyrics. I love the song "Into this game"!
http://www.myspace.com/narniaofficial

http://www.myspace.com/thewedding

Go Deep
Really awesome Christian band... love the lyrics, and the sound is pretty sweet too.
http://www.myspace.com/godeepband

http://www.myspace.com/aloveforenemies

Oceans Above
Really nice sounding band. They got signed to Sparrow records a while back, so you may have heard about them.
http://www.myspace.com/oceansaboveworship

Angie Lea
I haven't been listening to her long, but I really like her music!
http://www.myspace.com/angieleamusic

Sacrecy
Metal out of Finland! Really good stuff.
http://www.myspace.com/sacrecy

SiLOam
Poppy Rock sounding band, pretty good music.
http://www.myspace.com/siloamband

X-SINNER
Classic rock! Think of a Christian AC/DC haha! Their older stuff from the 80s/early 90s sounded even more like AC/DC stuff.
http://www.myspace.com/xsinnernews

BOARDERS
Really great rock/metal band out of Italy!
http://www.myspace.com/music4thelion

Threshold
They are not a "Christian Band" but I read that one of their members is Christian, and he writes the lyrics... if you listen, you can tell that it shows through in the music. I love their sound, especially the song "Slipstream".
http://www.myspace.com/thresholdofficial

Alcina
Really good hardcore/metal band out of Nashville.
http://www.myspace.com/alcinatn

Sleeping Giant
They call themselves Southern Rock/Metal, but whatever they are, they rock!
http://www.myspace.com/sleepingxgiant

ilia
This group of girls know how to rock, that is for sure!
http://www.myspace.com/iliamusic

Verra Cruz
Great rock band out of the UK!
http://www.myspace.com/verracruz

This Fires Embrace
Another good rock/metal band!
http://www.myspace.com/thisfiresembrace

The Great Transparency
Rock/Powerpop band with strong Christian lyrics.
http://www.myspace.com/thegreattransparency

Joy Williams
It's poppy music, but I love it!
http://www.myspace.com/joywilliamsmusic

Saviour Machine
These guys are total Legends, so you may have heard about them haha, but if not, you should check them out... awesomeness. It's gothic rock, and all the lyrics are Bible stories/inspired.
http://www.myspace.com/saviourmachine

Don't Wake Aislin
Pretty good band. They got to play at cornerstone too, so that was cool!
http://www.myspace.com/dontwakeaislin

Souljourners
This band is great and they have an awesome sound too.
http://www.myspace.com/souljourners

Jonezetta
They are signed to Tooth and Nail... their music isn't all to be taken serious, they are more of a fun band so to speak.
http://www.myspace.com/jonezetta

War of Ages
Awesome band. Pure metal/hardcore music with Christian lyrics!
http://www.myspace.com/warofages

Maylene and the Sons of Disaster
Most may have heard of them if they like heavy music... their lead singer is the former singer from Underoath. They are pretty awesome.
http://www.myspace.com/mayleneandthesonsofdisaster

Seventh Star
Another awesome hardcore/metal band from facedown records.
http://www.myspace.com/seventhstar

Project 86
Most have heard of them, if they are into the Christian music scene pretty big, but I thought I would mention them anyway. Great band! Lots of people don't get their music though haha.
http://www.myspace.com/project86

Well I listed quite a few... I could put more, but that is enough for now, if anyone even reads this lol I understand it is a lot, I just wanted to share some bands I like with you all. I hope this is okay... it is a pretty link heavy post, but myspace is where you can preview their music, so that is why.

God Bless and enjoy the music. ;)

I dig Alove For Enemies (I thought they already broke up?), Sleeping Giant, War of Ages, Project 86, Maylene, Seventh Star, etc. etc. Good stuff. You are not alone in your musical taste on this board, believe me.

Awesome, and Alove For Enemies is doing a few more shows I think, but they are on their last tour I know. I'm not sure how many shows are left though, they may be doing the final one here soon.

The Wedding is AMAZING! I've heard some stuff from Jonezetta and Breaking the Silence, but haven't looked into them....maybe I should....

Seeing your large taste for almost any type of music (man, I knew I wasn't the only one), you might like a group called Mainstay....Very good christian group, not too hardcore, but great lyrics and rock melodies...good stuff to listen to if your feeling reflective or in need of encouragment....

If you like Euro-epic-fantasy-melodic-symphonic-whatever-metal then you'd probably like Nightwish.

Yeah, Nightwish is pretty good, along with Within Temptation and Lacuna Coil. I don't listen to them much, because I like lyrics based around my Faith more, but I love their sound. Sharon from Within Temptation has an awesome voice.

I've been meaning to give Nightwish a listen for awhile, but I never got around to it.

I'm just kidding about my band though.
We're decent.

However, our stuff isn't uploading, plus we're starting recording sessions for our EP first.

Yeah, all the band mates refuse to put up raw demos.
It has to be the purified version with the qwarks worked out.

Come on.

From your list, the ones I know are Future of Forestry(very awesome band, I saw them live before and they were great! They are really nice people too, which is always a plus... :P)

August Burns Red is pretty sweet... Zao is pretty good, but I like their older stuff better. I didn't like their last CD as much as the others. Dead Poetic and Sullivan are good, though I haven't heard lots of their stuff, but from what I know, I like. I have heard some of Fold Zandura, and I enjoyed that... otherwise, I haven't heard much from the others, maybe one or two songs... never heard of Circle of Dust though.

Adding on to That Dude's list, I have to mention Anberlin. XD Not sure if they're under your "more well known" list or not, but they're basically amazing. Also, be sure to check out (if you haven't already):

Fair (Aaron Sprinkle),
Mae
Five Iron Frenzy
House of Heroes
Jimmy Eat World (yes, they're well known, but they're amazing and I'm stoked for their new CD XD)
And I'll throw in a "second" for Copeland, because I love them. XD

Oh well, forget the more well known list, might as well list everyone who rocks.

Anberlin is a sweet band... Fair is awesome! Aaron Sprinkle rules... his CD "Lackluster" is great also, I listen to that a lot. Five Iron Frenzy is great, and hilarious, and I also gotta add that whenever I think of them, I think of the O.C. Supertones! House of Heroes is good and Jimmy Eat World is a cool band... whenever I hear their name, for some reason I think of the song "The Middle" lol

XD "The Middle" is definitely their most well-known song. I'd highly recommend "Futures," though, if you haven't heard it. It was the last album they released, until Oct. 16th, that is, when "Chase This Light" is released. XD

And yes, "Lackluster" is a really good album. XD

Oh yeah, I remember Futures, I haven't heard it in quite a while though, I should listen to it again! I didn't even know they had a new one coming haha I try to keep track of way too many bands and singers, plus stay busy with work and learn music and photography, so this thread is helpful in being able to remember who to check up on :) though I have most of them added to myspace, so that also helps.

I don't think I mentioned The Myriad, but they are awesomeness.
http://www.myspace.com/themyriad

Seabird is pretty good too...
http://www.myspace.com/seabird

Deas Vail is another good one.

I gotta mention the awesomeness that is Starfield.

I thought I would post a few more

Bethany Dillon is great, I would have mentioned her in my first post, but I was posting up less well known ones in that one, so check her out if you haven't! She is an awesome song writer and I love her voice... I met her when she was on tour with Future of Forestry and she was so sweet and I could tell just how much she really loves the Lord. She is amazing live too, like Future of Forestry is... and they are also very funny, they pulled so many pranks on her during the show, and she took them so well, and laughed so much, it was just great. I can't think of a nicer group of music artists. :thumb:

http://www.bethanydillon.com

The Listening(once known as the Rock n Roll Worship Circus)
Very good music... I think my all time favorite song of theirs is "The Undiscovered".
http://www.myspace.com/thelistening

Gretchen
Great band I found out about some time ago, but just noticed they had a myspace page not too long ago lol
http://myspace.com/gretchenland

Anathallo
This is a pretty neat band, they have a different sound than most.
http://www.myspace.com/anathallo

Sarah Kelly
I like her singing style and lyrics quite a bit.
http://www.myspace.com/sarahkelly

Plumb
Great sound and awesome lyrics. I have listened to Plumb for a long time and would say I don't know a song I don't like. Some are very powerful too.
http://www.myspace.com/plumb

Fabrik
I enjoy their music, though I haven't heard anything out of them in a while, so I dunno what is going on with them. There hasn't been any updates :(
http://www.myspace.com/fabrik

Burlap To Cashmere
Really good band. I have started to listen to them more lately.

Thrice has their whole new CD up to listen to on myspace... http://www.myspace.com/thrice I strongly suggest checking it out. I like the majority of their music, especially the new stuff, just a few of their older songs I didn't care for, but I think they are a great band. Way more good songs than bad ones, if you like this kind of music that is...

Breaking the Silence, a band I mentioned in my first post in this thread, they released a new video a few days ago. I liked it, so I thought I would say "check it out"! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c545QVDRrvc

Oh yeah, and if there are any Paramore fans, which I think I remember there was... they put a new video out not long ago too for "crushcrushcrush" you can see it here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ei8hPkyJ0bU if you haven't already.

I gotta be honest and say I have a hard time convincing myself that I listening to them for the music, or because Haley is so cute... haha, just kidding, but she is cute. I'm not gonna hang up posters of her or download her images and stare and them though, I was just saying... :p I really do like their sound, I have ever since I first heard them, before the last CD came out. Hallelujah and Let The Flames Begin are my favorite songs on the new CD... I really like the majority of them, but Misery Business was my least favorite song lyrically lol...
